I think he's speaking about the quality of the series. Not its existence.

Is it better to end Metroid with a bang before Nintendo elimantes the IP? or would you prefer Retro Studios being sold to the likes of Activision who will gradually defile its name like MS did with Rare?

No, I'm not comparing Monolith's current status to what's happening with Rare, but Xeno series has taken a new direction that he doesn't like.

No worries! I don't think it's entirely right to blame Nintendo for it though. These changes might have been internal decisions form the studio with no direct involvement from Nintendo.

Highly unlikely if you ask me. A series changing from extremely storyheavy and complex with straight forward gameplay to open world gameplay with straight forward story would be very odd without someone pulling the strings from behind.

They could remaster the first one too, it does not have to be a bonus or anything, just release it a little earlier to create hype.
