Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pikmin 3 NA Commercial

Goodness gracious, I can't believe how many people are complaining about this Ad. I thought it looked great, flowed well, and showed off the game alright. Definitely better than the few Japanese Ads of the game I saw.

I've enjoyed Nintendo's recent marketing stunt. Their LM2 and AC:NL commercials were great.

Nintendo has been marketing to kids primarily with the Wii U and 3DS for sure in North America.

Not only do most of their recent ads primarily feature a kid, but also with stuff like Reggie saying NOA won't sell white/black/silver model 3DS' because their sales data shows those more "adult" colors don't sell, whereas red and blue do for the XL.

Also, I was wondering why I never saw any Nintendo commercials on TV anymore ... until I went over to my friends house to baby sit my goddaughter ... the ads run on Cartoon Network and Nickeldeon and other kids networks.

Apparently though Nintendo on the Japanese side is the one micromanaging Nintendo's marketing here too, so they probably are looking at their sales data and concluding its better to focus on kids. I think they may be conceeding that Sony/MS have locked up the teenager/adult crowd once the Wii Sports/Fit crazes fizzled out.

Not really.  They have some great 3DS ads targeting adults and late teens:

But with Wii U they are really dropping the ball and going with a kid focus.  I think it's dumb.

I liked it until the narration kicked in.

They should've just shown the Pikmin swarming the crab, crab momentarily raising the claw as he goes down and the swarm engulfs him. Cue gameplay. Ad end.

The Penelope Cruz ads were for Europe not North America. The NSMB2 spot for North America features kids primarily:

The Diana Agron one I feel like is aimed at young teens/the Disney Channel crowd.

The one with the Community actor is legitimately aimed at an older crowd, but it's an older web-centric spot meant for the internet I believe. It's also an older spot.

This is their recent big 3DS marketing push for Luigi's Mansion 2:

Also I'm not sure if you are in the US, but Nintendo's TV ads pretty much run exclusively on kids networks like Cartoon Network and Nickeldeon here, which is also another clear sign as to who they are marketing to. It ain't teenagers/adults for the most part.

Not as bad as it could have been. The Pikmin were super cute and it showed about the right amount of gameplay. I personally found the narrator hilariously unfitting (In a kinda positive way). At least they refrained from showing the entire family with the kid.

Seemed fine to me. Are these commercials airing already? If so then they should have put in a bit at the end about the Pikmin 3 Gamestop experience.

It's good. The narration voice is a bit much.

I agree about the narrator thing. I think Nintendo purposely knew what they were doing when throwing him in there. (Also, Pikmin are supposed to be like an Army of Ants. The guy sounded like a General or someone high up in the Army.)

It was slightly cool.

Had they used an older actress instead of the kid, and another narrator, it would have been much better.

I agree. The CGI is beautiful and the Pikmin and their sounds are represented faithfully; I just hate the kid and the narrator.

The Japanese commercials are much better, and no, not just because there's a cute girl in them, lol.

But hey, the NA ad could've been much worse - at least it wasn't this crap:

If that's what Nintendo thought then they have a really bad opinion of America. Everything must be military related.

JP Pikmin commercials were so much better.
