Because of the quality of the new GTA gameplay video, Hideo Kojima now considers Rockstar to be the best in the industry, raising the general gaming bar. LOL The Japanese just can't win no matter how much they try. When Kojima accepts it in you know it has become a problem.

Dude....what in the blue hell? How do you surmise that Sony is responsible for the issues Japan has been having as a whole this gen? Kojima has been the bar outside of Nintendo, Sony and a handful of other companies for the credibility of Japanese development. If he feels western development holds the crown then Japan as a whole needs to take a hard look at themselves.

I never bought that Western games overtook Japanese ones. In popularity, sure, but not in quality.

I think GTA 5 has taken the crown for gameplay this gen so far as it seems. Last of Us and Super Mario Galaxy are next. The GOTY is going to be tough to choose as it seems.

I still need to play Bioshock Infinite and the rest of The Last of Us, but I very much doubt GTA5 will be a candidate GOTY for me, GTA's never really worked for me.

As far as critics  awards go TLOU and GTA5 should be in close contention.

i've played Bioshock and TLOU has a much greater chance imho, even though Bioshock was quite impressive. GTA V crept up behind us with the gameplay. Never knew a open world game could be that deep in gameplay advantages. Seems like its going to be a long and deep game with a wide variety of alternatives. You have your spectrum of alternatives, your personalities, and the vast world thats multiple times the size of San Andreas. Makes me want to get Red Dead Redemption and go to work. Heh

Such a shame if production values and AI are his standard for quality. :/

Japanese developers are on a downfall because they try to recreate the superfluous crap Western developers do.

Of course their problems are not new they became apparent at the dawn of 7th generation, (5th and 6th generation was dominated by Sony, exactly two generations) and they never recovered.

The Handheld market is different story, mostly dominated by Nintendo remain relevant to this day.

Sony? what exactly was success story from Sony development side in 7th generation, except perhaps for GT

I'd be depressed too if I were spending years making an open-world action game and then saw the GTA V trailer.
