Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Did SOny just prove Wii U RAM is better than PS4 RAM? Video inside

this thread sounds like someone took a discussion from 2007 and replaced "cell architecture" with "edram"

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I'm not that tech savvy, but wouldn't developer's experience dealing with the EDRAM in the Xbox360 help somewhat in developing for the Wii U? I understand that they still have different architectures, but surely the programming of code for use between the DDR3 and the EDRAM involves a similar process between the two consoles.

To a degree, yes, though Wii U's different architecture still hinders a direct transferal of techniques and experience. Wii U should be more heavily reliant on its eDRAM than the 360 is due to having more of it but a seemingly lower main RAM speed.

Wait, what? Why cut Cerny off?
Why, then, do you think Sony didn't go with that approach? Cerny was just beginning to explain how the approach they went with was superior

You must not be familiar with Tre.

Is @Lister drtre??

First you need to know how the bandwidth speeds of eDRAM on Wii U... after that make the comparison 12.6Gb/s vs 88GB/s of the main RAM bandwidth.

Wii U is not even close to Sony approach with eDRAM + GDDR5.

To finish 176GB/s > 1TF/s with eDRAM.

Honestly, I don't think Tre is pro-Nintendo/anti-Sony enough to be Lister. I could be wrong though.

Sony has eDRAM? Or the Wii U has GDDR5? Can't tell what you're trying to say.

Did you watch the video? Sony tested eDRAM + GDDR5 with PS4 for 1TB/s bandwidth... 88GB/s for the GDDR5 + 1 TB/s of the eDRAM.

The Wii U is 12GB/s DDR3 + unknown speed for eDRAM.

Ok, so let's assume Wii U's RAM is faster. It's still bottelenecked by nearly everything else. It's like putting 8GB RAM on a Sega Genesis. It just doesn't do much when its CPU and GPU aren't up to speed.

Could be good news to the Xbone against PS4, though, because it is overall more powerful than Wii U to take advantage of that RAM architecture's potential, like Cerny said.

The Wii U hardware has been designed from the ground up to be efficient. Nintendo are aware that bottlenecks are the bane of developers and have designed a balanced console as a result. Efficiency plus balance equals less bottlenecks.

So then that would imply the eRAM is slower than what is suggested as the other componets are very slow compared to the HYPOTHETICAL eRAM Sony were talking about

Ignorance of some people is starting to be mind-numbing.
