Just to add to the op, would having those texts monitored actually of stopped anything? How fast do you think they can analyze all that info? Fast enough to get a text and respond before it happens? I doubt it. Even a direct call to the police about problems takes time to respond too. So what good would it have done? I doubt that this kind of surveillance happens in real time

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin

I was going to say the exact same thing... Good one

Franklin wasnt referring to todays society as it is. Or even criminals who use services such as BBM to coordinate attacks that we witness today. Terrorits cells etc.

I dont necesarily like that my Government can see what I search for on Google etc. But if it saves the lives of people, and humanity uses it for the right reaons then a life is worth far far more. Its not like I want people watching me have sex or anything. But the world in its current state needs to be monitored to a certain degree.

After all its impossible to fight something you cant see. Which essentially is whats happening with terrorism and the like. I see it more as a pprotection. After all my Aunty may still be alive if BBM was monitored before this happened.

Funny how the people advocating government invasion of privacy for our safety seem to have a particular corporate allegiance.

You need to analize what you are thinking a little bit more cause you are biased, after all you lost a loved one.

@ Bold- Thats the problem humanity cant have this kind of power, is like god watching over everyone and everything they do, this is too much power for a human to have. Like i said before, look at my other post, the real problem behind these attacks were other things weather we like to admit it or not. If we start monitoring messages these people will stop using them to coordinate their attacks.

@Italic- No she will not... sorry if it sounds cruel, is not my intention... but the fact is that this riots and attacks would have happened anyway, there will always be way to conspire, they will find other ways to do it cause like i said before the problem is not the messages or the monitoring, the problem is oppresion.

What im triying to demostrate is that monitoring, invasion of privacy and violation to our rights as human beings will not stop this people, so why even bother. Is like closing a street by not allowing any car to pass only to see them flying over the same street in plane. we stoped all the cars from going thru but they came fliying.

That reasoning can be used to dissallow so many things. While life is precious, so is freedom, and privacy. The excess money(time and resources) we all spend on video games and chatting on the interent can be used to better humanity and to save lives too. Perhaps all sugary and unhealthy food should be banned, as that would save lives too. We should probably all stop driving, many people die in car accidents, so it would save lives. The problem is that humanity wont us eit for only the good reasons. Like anything that involves people, some people will abuse it, some will use it to attack those they dislike.

Yup, if we just put every person on the planet into prison, nothing can happen anymore! Everyone will be safe inside their prison! Sounds good, no?

The world will never be safe. No matter how hard you try. People will still die. Ain't nothing you can do about it. But the short time we have on this planet is a hell of a lot better if we can enjoy it with freedom.

Sorry to all of you who are againt NSA etc having access to Private messages etc. But in 2012 probaly the most hartbreaking and scary time of my life took place.

All made possible with private BLackberry Messenger. Used to cordinate rots and attacks.

Now in the UK due to this fateful week, all messenging of any type is accessible by certain authorities. And rigtly so. My AUnty lot her life in this BS.

I'm sorry to hear that a family member lost their life to this tragedy.

However, I think bandaid methods to solve a problem are themselves a problem.  Rather than punish everyone in the name of national security, why not try to learn what was the original cause of the unrest?  Why not try to fix that problem?   When you deal with the underlying problem, you don't need such brash tactics as pervasive spying.

The youtube page you linked despite being labelled London Riots London 2012... reference the 2011 riot and was posted on Aug 9, 2011.

You lost your auntie  in 2012... the year stated doesn't appear to be a typo as you've kindly linked to a youtube clip with a title in the same year...

You reference Blackberry, which made news headline as playing a 'key role' in the 2011 riot.

Just which riot are you talking about?

Edit:

A little further detail - there were 5 reported death during the 2011 London riot.

* Trevor Ellis - 26 yr old male
* Haroon Jahan - 21 yr old male
* Shahzad Ali - 30 yr old male
* Abdul Musavir - 31 yr old male
* Richard Mannington Bowes - 68 yr old male

There were no report of any female death (elderly or not).

I am trying to find any reference of riot in 2012 but even your own linked video doesn't give any clue...
