Disclaimer: I have owned Windows based PC's as long as I can remember and have owned an Xbox 360 since 2006, paying for XBL the whole time. That being said, all of this DRM stuff (which was reversed) and the whole...NSA scandal has really exposed MS for the sleazy company they are.
If anyone really thought that our complaints about the DRM is what changed their mind, sorry...but you're wrong. In this article I look at why we didn't do anything, and even though Microsoft says they don't hand over information unless they are legally required...they do anyway, even if just by handing over circumventive methods. The question is, can we trust them to not go back on their word on the DRM policies and change their ways of letting the NSA have pratically free reign over their services?

After all of the negative press and word of mouth the still-unconfirmed console received, you would think Microsoft would come out and officially denounce the rumors if they weren’t true. Instead they let the flames burn far and wide, even tossing a barrel of gasoline in the mix when they confirmed the rumors on May 21st. Gamers went so far as to create a Twitter hashtag campaign, that got noticed by the mainstream media, in an attempt to keep DRM restrictions off of the Playstation 4 and for Microsoft to reverse their policies. “If all you want is gaming, you’ll still pick us. The super core guys, they buy everything,” they said, confident that once they showed the Xbox One’s E3 line-up people wouldn’t mind their rights being stripped away. They were wrong. Once pre-orders for both the PS4 and X1 were available, it was clear which console was favored regardless of games or other features. This was the key decision in Microsoft’s turn-around. Money. |
Try to keep the political stuff out....it's unnecessary and not exactly relevant. This is about what Microsoft is doing, not about the scandal as a whole.
