No. I said i didnt collect all the gold coins. I have the majority including all of them on probably 3-4 worlds but eventually stopped.

So you basically stopped getting the three gold coins just when it would have gotten much more challenging to get them! And you complain about the game being to easy. You miss the point. Mario games are easy, its when you are going for the coins that it gets challenging for the more experienced players.

You guys say well the gold coins make it more difficult and it does, but not by much either.  Rayman, BattleBlock Theater, Donkey Kong Country all offers a much greater challenge while also not having to make you go out of your way.  You can, but you dont have to because the game already offers a challenge.    Something Mario U does not do.

"My reviews are totally unbiased. But I approached this game with Rayman, BattleBlock Theater and Donkey Kong Country in mind."

Sounds about right.

Maybe not posting a review but if the game is too challenging for you to complete then I do not see how it can be easy.
Now it just seems like you are refusing to admit you were wrong and are changing your story to justify your stance. As someone else pointed out DKC returns isn't hard unless you go for the letters in it.

Why do you not consider challenge mode when reviewing the game. Do you also do that to other games of different genres? When you rate COD is it based on single player or multi player alone? I just see it as part of the experience of the game. It is there to be played and it offers a lot of challenge. To discount it simply because it isn't part of story mode seems odd. Multi play usually isn't part of story mode so I thought I'd ask.

We've had 1 Mario 2d game for the Wii, Ds and Wii U. I am not sure how that can cause fatigue for that style of game and you not be completely fatigued by a lot of games and 3 to 4 sequels offered on other console.

Yes indeed.  They are all 2D platformers and will be compared to each other.  Just as Halo will be compared to Killzone, Resistance, Destiny, and other scifi FPS games.  That is how we operate and since we have 60 reviews up and this is the 1st one people are upset with it does not bother me and i stand by what i have said. Considering this is a popular series I expected this review to make a few people upset. Im not surprised by it.

Considering on who im talking to im not really surprised though.

Your score is your opinion, which of course you are entitled to. Bottom line though, you didn't even finish the game's main mode.

The only situation where this might be acceptable to me, in a review, was if the game was so bad you couldn't bring yourself to finish it, but this should correspond with a score much lower than 7.8.

As is, it's an incomplete review so you can't blame people for calling you on it.

Having completed NSMBU and NSLU completely i would give it an 8.5, but i could totally understand and respect a score of 7.5 from someone who had actualy seen all that the game had to offer.

To be fair I did beat it.  I just did not collect all the gold coins as I found it tediouis and boring going through the game a second time.

How many world's did you complete?

8.4  Beat all 8 worlds and 4 of the coin levels in the secret world.  Which did not add to the gameplay.

There are 9 world's to complete. My point stands.

This game was perfect for the 3 of us. Me, my wife and our 3 year old 'helping' on the gamepad. He learned to play on his own too. He is getting quite good at getting around in the first world on the gamepad.
It was quite a challenge to find and collect all the coins with the three of us, and we still have a few levels unbeaten on the superstar road. Great game in co-op, better then DKCR and NSMBU with great use of the gamepad.
With 184 times played, 292 hours total playtime, this game is a solid 9 for us.

I haven't played the game, but having played NSMB Wii and the two DS games, I agree with JayWood about the difficulty.

If one world or the task to collect coins is what makes this kind of games difficult , then that doesn't mean the game is difficult. Overall the game would still be easy.

For me this has been a terrible mistake of Nintendo and one reason I feel this NSMB games have been kinda boring. Adding coins to collect is just an artificial way for Nintendo to say "Look! The challenge is not to finish it but to collect everything!". This has affected the core of the gameplay and not in a good way IMO.

Mario games in the past were memorable because you could die a lot of times and repeat the level over and over. Now they are forgettable because you play them once and forget about them, unless you look for the coins. I rather have shorter and difficult levels than long and easy.
