It's kind of hard to claim to be doing an "unbiased review" of something, when at the end of the day, you're still just giving your own personal experience of the game, your own personal take, flavored by your own personal tastes and opinions. You may have found the game to not be challenging, as well as "repetitive and uninspiring", but others would likely totally disagree with you, thinking the game was very creative, a lot of fun, etc.

It would have been better to just say "Hey this is my take on the game", instead of trying to put forth the idea that somehow your review isn't just your personal opinions of the game. Everyone is biased, because life is subjective.

The definition of Biased

Biased - preference: an unfair preference for or dislike of something

That is what I approach each review with.  Never praise something unless it deserves praise and never bash something unless it deserves it.  Do you think i have an unfair preference in this review?

Do we actually have ANY platformers (which rely on the precise timing of jumps) with online multiplayer on ANY consoles? IMO the genre just doesn't fit online mp. One small micro-lag and you are dead because you missed the timing of a jump. One bigger lag and you're dead before you even have the chance to jump. Pure horror...

That being said, I would have given the game a higher rating for the local multiplayer. While the 7 in the SP is totally justified, I don't think a 7.5 for MP gives the game nearly enough credit. The game is so much better in the local MP, it's almost mind-blowing. The levels get a lot more challenging, since the the players will be trolling each other, at least one player will try to kill the others with a speedrun and the "God-Player", as you called him, will either help that person with his platforms, help the others to keep up, kill the one person with awkwardly placed blocks or just bump enemies in the way.

9/10 at least for the local MP imo, which would push the game to 8.1/10

Just finished it tonight myself. I'd give it a 9... maybe 8.7 at lowest. Clearly an "A" game. Not the best of the series IMO, but great game none-the-less.

Difficulty need to be better, but the additional modes and of course the DLC of Luigi adds so much more.

Makes me really look forward to SM3DW even if I'll purposely pick it up in 2014 so I can support the 3rd party games I want.

I didn't play the game but the review sounds pretty negative and you even stated that you didn't like it, and yet give it a 7.8? Apparently you're one of many reviewers for those anything below 8 is crap, which is odd.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

It's definitely not a bad game per se, just an uninspired one.

I hate to say but this will be the first 2D Mario console game in my life that I probably won't finish in my life (starting with the NES Super Mario Bros.).

I did beat NSMB2 but that was pushing it a bit, and the reward at the end of the game for collecting coins was fairly lame.

But NSMBU ... it's not that it's a bad game (it might be the best of the NSMB series) ... it's just I've pretty much had it with the NSMB formula. I got to the amazon/jungle world and basically quit. I have had no motivation to revisit the game even during this long drought.

I thought maybe when New Super Luigi U came out, I'd get back into it, but I've found myself with little interest in wanting to download it so far.

I will be getting Mario 3D World, but as far as 2D Marios go ... the next one better shake things up.

Good review.
But a few words about the challenge mode would be appreciated, since this is an important mode of the game. It has a lot of stages with different degrees of difficulty and online rankings.

Just one point: This time Bowser didn´t took Peach away from the Mushroom Kingdom, he trapped her inside her own castle !

This is not what he means.

What he is saying is that you must made clear in your review that it´s the way you see the game. When you say the game is "repetitive", it´s because it seems repetitive to you, but may not feel repetitive for 2d platformers fans or people who are not familiar with 2d Mario.

It´s all about the way your feelings towards the product are expressed.

Perhaps not, trying to put it in THAT light. However, there are many things you pointed out in your review that are still nothing more or less than your personal opinion/take on things, as many others I know would disagree. Just saying.
