I am afraid JRPGs on home consoles are going to become even more difficult to break even in the next generation.
The best way to keep them alive is to keep developing the JRPGs for the 3DS and the PSV because the costs of developing a proper game on mobile consoles is much lower compared to the home consoles.
God, I hope so
... on a serious note I don't care for JRPG's, but it is always sad to see a genre die. It seems like we are losing one each generation ... just like how survival horror died after 2005-2006 or so.
Unless Japan disappear from the face of the Earth, then the answer is simply, no.
More niche JRPGs than universal ones though and probably a good portion will release on handheld devices like what we saw this gen.
JRPG does not mean a RPG made in Japan. it is a style of gameplay and certain role playing elements that was created and progressed in Japan first.
Big budgets RPGs like FF XV, kingdom Hearts, Dark Souls, X.. and many more can NOT be called JRPG even though they were made in Japan. these games naturally evolved out of the genre, which is a good thing.

Etrian Odyssey 4 is on there twice... although there is another Etrian Odyssey game coming out.
What makes JRPG? Just turned based battles? Those are almost gone as is. The only reason turn based battles ever existed was because of programming and hardware limitations. Role Playing Adventures will always be around.
wheres the, "i think a resurgence is going to happen" option?
