Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Is this the reason why kinect is mandatory ?

wait I did say service not product.... you pay for a service here to use apps, MP, cross game chat, rewards plan, exclusive discount and content..... (arguably worth it but that's not the debate here)

you don't buy a product.... when you do even on XB you don't get ads, if I buy a movie or music on XBL I don't get ads if I buy a game same goes....

pretty much like your TV example.... if you pay for cable TV you still get ads but if you buy a product like a TV show DVD or DD copy you don't get ads..... it's pretty much the same here....

now I know how it is in the US since I lived there for a decade almost and I'm back in France now... so I know exactly what you are talking about.... but paying services here or there has never implied ad free unless the premium account is expressively made for that.... I say that cause I use to work in the marketing/advertising field and if that was true we would have way less business lol....

but anyway, I don't see what will be new with Xbox 1 so far it looks like it will be exactly as it is just in a different dashboard, and even maybe better with better tailored game, movie, or music list proposition and maybe the little ad we have in the corner will finally be more relevant to us....

but so far I haven't seen anything telling me it will be any different than what is already in place with the 360.... just a different skin....

@willem
not saying it will improve the gameplay for core gamers who don't care.... but you do realize those are not the only people that enjoy gaming.... some of us want the gimmick because it's fun..... and the casual dig it to....

bottom line if it brings 1 or 2% more sales without a lot of overhead it is worth it for 3rd parties.... knowing everyone has one will give them more chance to captivate those X extra percent of sales... it is that simple....

in games like forza horizon for example I could see the voice command be used for GPS route search, for the radio to skip tracks or channel while not getting in the menu or letting go of the directional stick....

but you do realize there is more to gaming than FPS and racers ????

why not make AAA Kinect titles.... you might not like them but some people do.... I use to love party games like kung fu chaos on XB I'm sure they could come up with excellent party games with some Kinect integration or even Kinect only....

could see many application in RPG also.... you could use it to actually read your dialogue answers instead of lamely clicking a button.... you could also have all new ways to do magic calling out spells and all.... you could also cut the hassle of navigating big inventories, or looking for item creation blue prints, or even in turned based RPG call out tactics and actions in combat.....

you could have great action shooters like time crisis or time cop arcade use to be.....

there are millions of things that can be done to have a different less bland gaming experience or experience as a whole.....

some will like it other wont.... but the only way to make it relevant to dev is to enable them to have a potential user base big enough to generate extra profit.... this will never be possible without it bundled.... here is the real thing we are not saying it will work out like that.... but one thing for sure is, if it is not bundled there is absolutely no chance for it to ever be used properly..... so I'd sign up for a maybe rather than a no no any day....

Someone refresh my memory.

Is Kinect required to be plugged in for the One to work?

so far yes.... but we'll see at launch what that means and why....

I know there are more Genres than FPS and Racers, but I'm still not convinced that a gimmig like kinect can add something positive to a control scheme for regular controllers where gamers can benefit from.
As an average gamer, I can only see the down sites from it, and I'm not even thinking about the commercials in that perspective.

Maybe some co-op games could make it more fun ... but that would require a more kinect centric approach.

There should be a study conducted in this thread for the well being of man kind.

People are arguing about a few little tiles showing them mountain dew and other things that don't even fully advertise until YOU highlight and or click them.

well me I would get it just for dashboard voice navigation.... so even if they completely stop Kinect games and Kinect integration I still want it....

but the only way to give it a remote chance to maybe become relevant in games on a regular basis is to have it in the box.... otherwise they should have just stopped doing it entirely and sony should completely drop move and the eyetoy....
in which case I wouldn't even consider buying a new gen console until 2015.... and a lot of my friends too.... and pretty much any casual willing to pay would be out too

but we'll see.... that's what I like in this gen XB.... now Kinect has a remote chance to be relevant....
