Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rumor - Microsoft may increase RAM to 12 GB and GPU clock increase to Xbox One

Sounds more reasonable than staying at 1.23 tflops for GPU, I still think even the PS4's is simply too low... 2.2 really should've been the lowest either had gone.

The upgrade in ram sounds pretty believable, too, though it admittedly wasn't even an issue on my general radar. Assuming the 3gb reserved for OS remains true, that'd be 9gb DDR3 for One vs 7gb DDR5 for PS4, so that sounds like a more even pairing all things considered even with the eSRAM in mind considering the tiny size of it.

Really, a delay to next year, upgraded hardware to better justify the price and help marketing, and everything remaining constant as is but with a drop to $400 before launch are all very real possibilities. The only thing I DON'T seem happening is things staying as they are now.

MS is going to fuck around and either miss the holiday season or create another thriving RROD virus.

Seems like MS should actually just launch next year. They seem to need more time with all this sudden and drastic changes within this short time

They may need more time instead of doing all this scrambling

This probably wont happen anyways though..

This would actually be suicide for the X-One. No matter how "good" these specs sound, they wouldn't work at this point. Delaying is not something they should even consider, but since I expect this news to be nothing more than someone's wishful thinking, I'm not putting much weight behind it, anyway.

No more suicide than launching with blatantly worse specs the same year for $100 more, really.

They've got to stick with this thing for realitically half a decade, not worth rushing to avoid a MAYBE 8 million lead from the competition assuming a year delay. The PS4 is crap, but this thing is a pathetic joke hardware wise right now.

I don't see why not... Xbone currently most likely has a 4GBx2 RAM chip setup, so it's not unreasonable for them to swap out the 4GB chips with 6GB chips. And being that it's DDR3 RAM, it's pretty dirty cheap so increasing capacity by 50% wouldn't add much to their manufacturing cost overhead.

Remember.. M$ DOUBLED the 360's RAM capacity to 512 MB in the months leading up to its launch at a time when most PCs had 512MB to 1GB of RAM total, and they were still able to launch the 360 at $299/$399.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

These days, Xbox has established itself, yes,

There you go. The One is going to lose in sales no matter what it does though, really... It'll just die a horrible death if it remains the way it is now.

I maintain they're both crap, though.

Care to bother explaining why you think both are crap?

Increasing the RAM would be pretty stupid as the majority of third parties would not take advantage of it due to PS4 staying at 8Gb..
Right now the system are comparable enough that it should be relatively easy to develop software that works on both (especially with PS4 development seemingly closer to PC), any move that makes it so that it is harder will not be welcome, especially something like RAM as the way it is the most often used is through graphic assets and having to develop graphic assets different based on the console is a lot of extra work..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I would find this rumor hard to believe with the console launching in just a few months.

The additional RAM will cause delays and a redesign of the motherboard to add them and would increase the price too.

I do not think MS will give Sony the satisfaction of launching first just to add RAM. There is a reason MS is promoting Cloud.

@Blood_Tears
You must have no clue how much ram costs. I personally bought 16gb ram for $96. Adding 4gb to the console might add $10 to the cost if even that. They would not raise the price of the Xbox One.

It went from the rumor of underclocking because of performance issues, to now overclocking..........
and while 12gig of ram would be great, both of these rumors wont come to pass. Wouldnt the Xbox one be well into the production phase by now?

Aren't rumors fun?  Many of the rumors this year though have come true.

And as far as production - not necessarily.  The Xbox 360 didn't go into production until August 2005.  It was released in North America on 11-22-2005.

I do think they will want to get it in so people can show their friends on the big Thanksgiving weekend.   (US Holiday that starts the Holiday shopping season.)

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!
