3D World > Galaxy 3 for me.

for me as well.  actually more than any 3d mario to date.

IMO, 64 > Galaxy > Galaxy 2 > Sunshine

I haven't played 3D Land yet but likely will in the future. 3D World looks like it'll be better than all of them.

Proper single player Mario title confirmed. I can relax now.

I have nothing against 3d world but I'm sick of the emphasis on multiplayer...in my day we didn't need that! I know it's the trend but it's one I'd rather nintendo ignored.

i got to play it at best buy.  It was pretty sweet.  It fixes everything i haven' t like about 3d marios.  You're playing through levels instead of trying to collect stars, and you have multiple powerups that you can actually use throughout levels as opposed to being set pieces or puzzle pieces. Playing with 4 people was a blast and the boss battle was less visually appearling than galaxy boss battles, but alot more challening than any of them as well.  Good time.

Lol at "openess of Galaxy games".

No, that was effectively 3D Land/World Lite before 3D Land/World existed. Model after 64 and Sunshine instead please.

If Nintendo can somehow find a way to properly reproduce the magic of a classic Mario 2D title in a vast 3D world, then I'm all for them trying.

Let's see what they come up with.

Isn't EAD Tokyo divided into 2 teams? 1 for handhelds (3D Land) and 1 for home consoles? I'm starting to think they actually have a "proper" 3D Mario in the pipe lines, but rushed this game after seeing the success of 3D Land...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

@bolded: You're right, it was - but for me that style for Mario in 3D suits the franchise better.

Super Mario 64 will forever live on as a masterpiece because of its place in gaming history but Sunshine is an example of why continuing the open world formula for 3D Mario isn't liked as much by many of the original fans. It ends up feeling more like a Mario adventure rather than a Mario platformer.

I say keep the more linear "Galaxy style" for 3D Mario and leave the 3D open world adventure structure for Zelda.

3D World probably got fast tracked too because it would be easier (read: finished quicker) to develop than a Mario Galaxy style Mario.

They probably wrapped 3D Land, and went into 3D World a few months later.

More obvious still, it was likely that they saw the positive response to 3D Land, combined that with the fact that the "New" series was successful on both console and handheld, and just commissioned a "sequel."

Everyone also seems to be missing the fact that now there's a co-op multiplayer option. This is something new and interesting for 3D Mario games of any sort.

I am still looking forward to Mario Galaxy 3.

There really should be no confusion of Miyamoto mentioning SMG as the core 3D franchise over Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine. It's incredibly obvious. Mario 64 has a title which is tied to a piece of antiquated hardware. Mario Sunshine, I don't think I need to say anything there, everybody hated that game. The Super Mario Galaxy games are two of the most critically acclaimed games ever, equalled only by Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I wonder if Nintendo would have any interest in taking the Mario Sunshine formula and maybe creating a new character out of it and making a platformer series based around that type of concept (3D Donkey or Diddy Kong?).
