It's not nice being a beta tester. The best rule of thumb I've found is to let the software guide your decision to buy the hardware. Unless you're sure that the PS4 has something you will love at launch, I wouldn't pre order it or any other console. There are always issues that need to be sorted out with new hardware.

Personally, I plan on finishing my PS3 and Steam backlogs before I invest in a PS4. Oh and GTA5 too.

No, I'm a 3DS owner, so I exactly knew what was coming. I bought my WiiU Day-1 to support Nintendo. If the WiiU doesn't get a price cut this year, THEN I'll be disappointed as a Day-1 buyer :P

I'm so sick of this "Should Iwata step down?" no he should not as if it wasn't for him they would not have had the successful Wii and DS or are they forgotten already?

exactly. The author of the OP is so out of touch.

Well except argueably in situations like the PS3 where features like BC get ripped out... but such things are very rare.

I got my PS3 for 150€. As an early adopter I would've paid around 599€ and the system would probably be dead by now. The PS3 was just not good value at launch, bc or not.

Uhh and no, I don't feel ripped off after buying the Wii U because I knew it was coming and made preparations. I bought cheap amazon credit well over a year in advance through different promotions and in the end I paid about 200€ for my 399€ ZombiU Pack. Also, due to the bad sales I got a bunch of cheap games and preorders, like the 30cent promotion or preorders like Sonic Lost World for 33€, Pikmin 3 for 34,95€, The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 for 35€ each and so on.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I feel ripped off as an early adoptor of the 3DS since they released the 3DS XL.

I hesitate buying a Wii U because I don't want to be a ripped off early adopotor again. I am araid they will release a better version and drop proce right ater I bought a Wii U.

It's why i always wait a year or two to buy a new console. It will have a decent set of games by now and the console is usually cheaper by then. Didn't anyone learn from the first 6 months of the 3DS?

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

Like I said, I will be disappointed if Nintendo won't cut the price of the WiiU. I want to be a WiiU ambassador, that's literally the only reason I bought the system at launch :(

[Update] I got nothing against Iwata, I just find his business practice to be a bit odd sometimes even when they work out for the company. The man know his game for sure ,but he think more as a developer then a business man. What Nintendo need is a CEO who have a history with games but also know how to do business, make tough decisions, try to creator to third parties need who would like to work on power hardware, give out more details on your titles, show more ads, even if it's only through youtube, etc. I will give Iwata this, he does know how to creator to indies which is great. I heard there's over hundred indie titles coming to the Wii U. That's what I would like to see more. Honestly, I would like to see Iwata go back to developing games as a new CEO take his place. I'm not wishing for this, I would like to be proven wrong. I would like to see a new and improve Nintendo, I'm just not seeing that ....yet ....I hope.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

On the whole Iwata's done a really good job, especially on the hardware side.

He largely inherited the Gamecube and a dying Gameboy line, and for the next generation both Sony and Microsoft launched HD consoles. Nintendo could not possibly afford to launch an HD console.

95% of companies would have gone out of business right there. Instead we got the Wii and the DS in the same stroke. I do understand, though, why Nintendo's been struggling with this generation's launches. They're going through two generations of growing pains, and it's hard to follow up on two successes in the best of times.

You can complain about the software stagnating or regressing, though, and I'd largely agree. The only Nintendo IP I really care about which has actively improved over the past ten years is Zelda. But even there, if they're not going to take chances with their existing IP, they need to grow their IP collection to avoid stagnating. Nintendo's doing that. They bought Monolith. They just need to do more of it: another RPG series or two would be nice, and as Nintendo's audience matures they need to look at acquiring some horror (or something equivalently adult).
