Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 will win next-gen because of price

Well .. I think price is a major contributing factor, and it is part of a whole that would (likely) give the PS4 a leg up. In my home country the PS1, and X360 infiltrated most living rooms because of price and the head start was nice as well. The PS2 was sold cheaper than the alternative consoles as well, but it was (initially) popular mostly because of the DVD playback.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Probably, but how many units which each company move lifetime? That's what I'm wondering.

In total, less than gen 7. I think 220-250 million total. Gen 7 is currently at 254 million.

I think Xb one will win the USA and UK, but come second globally.

But Wii U isn't out of it.

I don't think anyone in their right mind sees the x360 as a "loser to the ps3" this gen. Anyways...

Right now the PS4 has a lot going for it. Positive buzz and cheap price point. However it lacks a wow factor. So while i see it outselling its competitors i don't see it growing the market. In fact i see the next gen overall selling less than this gen if things stay as they are now.

Don't also forget that the Xbone has options. If sales are seriously bad then MS will act and they will act fast. They've proven this with Kinect, pricing, bundles, and removing the DRM stuff. They can very easily remove kinect from the bundle...and sell the system without it at ~$100 cheaper.

Although that will be a last resort. Their main priority right now needs to be showing off the added value of the extra cost. They really need to start refocusing on Kinect. To be more specific they need to focus on Kinect Games.

You do have to admit, its pretty sad that the 360 had basically everyting going for it this generation and it still couldn't outsell the PS3, now with the PS4 having everything going for it I think the X1's future isn't looking too well.  Also in my opinion there is not one good kinect game out, all the years kinect has been available and Microsoft couldn't make a single good game for it, seriously?  And now they want to make it a essential unit in their next gen console...seems like a huge mistake to me.

No i think you looking at it the wrong way. When MS decided to focus and invest more into gaming their goal is to make money, grow the brand, gain marketshare etc.

They did all those things. This generation was a massive win for them worldwide. They came from no where and slashed Sony's marketshare in half...

And while all 3 manufacturers follow the market and care a great deal about what their competitors are doing and how successful they are, I think in this case MS couldnt have wished for a better generation for them. So i dont agree that theres anything "sad" about the 360.

On the other hand Sony did a great job in keeping the ps3 relevant and saving the Playstation brand. It was at an all time low 5 - 6 years ago. And both Nintendo and MS were doing so well. Specifically in the last 2 - 3 years Sony has done an exceptional job with the PS3. Bringing down the price, bringing out exclusive quality software(even new IP's!) and most importantly growing PS+ into what must be a serious money maker for them. In this same period i feel like MS has not been able to keep up with Sony, but themselves not doing that bad either.

When i speak about Kinect, im trying to look at it from a braoder perspective. I don't see a kinect experience appealing to the core gamer in its current form, but MS needs to focus on bringing casual games that will regain the attention of casual gamers and really show what Kinect 2.0 is all about. We have seen almost nothing from MS that highlights the advantages of Kinect 2.0. Not even tech demos (ive seen one or two but thats it). I agree that it would be mistake to bundle Kinect if MS decides to ignore it from a gaming perspevtive in the lead up to the XO launch. Ultimately the majority of people who buys a console buys it too play games. Everything else no matter how good is secondary.

Possibly.

But the ONE will "sell well considering its price"
