MS took the bashing, it's played out now. It's ok for Sony to add TV now.

When you announce it right away, you get "WTF we dont need these extra features!"

You announce it after the fact, you get "Awesome!  new Features!"

Gotta love it.

I think MS took that approach because they knew they couldn't beat Sony in specs and their games weren't ready to be shown. It was the only feature that Sony didn't have. They just didnt' have the right people that made it sound like a viable feature. Should have got Jessica Alba to do the presentation, like they did with WP. Who cares what they say, Jessica Alba makes it sound good.. :P

omg Sony have filed a patent for something?! that's it guys, that is the exact same as Microsoft doing a reveal of a console with the most consumer right infringing DRM ever thought up. Completely agree with the other comments here.

edit - Back on Earth however Sony file lots of patents just when their ideas department come up with something they wanna have a patent on incase they find a use for it later, heck the Move was patented years before the Wii was shown.

They spent most of the reveal event speaking about tv stuff. The first 10 minutes was exciting to watch but then they continued with the tv stuff.

In any case most people didnt really care much about the reveal event itself...it was the press conference afterwards that caused the shit storm of negative press.

sony is bringing TV content to the PS4, how dare them. this is exactly like announcing a new GAMING console without showing any gameplay at all, and focusing on TV features and voice commands for half the presentation.

For people saying it's a double standard if people praise this now, it obviously isn't. Microsoft was bashed because of their horrific PR focus on t.v. as if it was the most important thing about the console. If they had said "games are most important, here are 50 of them, oh we also have some cool t.v. stuff if you want to use it", there would have been no problem.

Except the DRM, that would still have been a problem.

can't blame them for focusing on and announcing gaming features first.  That's just good PR.  I never had a doubt Sony would do multimedia on PS4 I mean PS3 does most of the multimedia I want now anyways.  A better internet browser would be great so I could go to any site to watch my movies instead of entering an app but that's pretty much the only multimedia feature that's missing that I want.  I don't need to shop for tickets while talking while watching a movie while flipping back to a game because then I wouldn't be paying attention to either the game or the movie or the phone call or the shopping.

I dont think anyone is blaming anyone for anything.   I think you are guaranteed a better browser this time around, I mean it cannot be any worse?

As I said in the OP, Im wondering if this is part of the Sony Entertainment info we heard at E3.  Exclusive Shows?  Very possible and this would make it even more so.

But I thought the ps4 was for gamers gamers don't like TV so booooo
