IGN reader StargamerX has uncovered an interesting trademark application from Sony for something called PlayStation TV. Note that it's also filed as a service mark, meaning that it's intended to be a service (think Netflix or HBOGo).

The application -- created with the United States Patent and Trademark Office -- was filed very recently, back on June 26, 2013. The trademark was last altered three days later, on June 29th.

The new Application was filled at the end of June.  I wonder if this has anything to do with the Sony Entertainment stuff they were talking about at E3?

Sony's going to compete with Microsoft over the TV market?

I love how Sony Fanboys at IGN now defend TV apps cause they patented it in 2006.....lol

Simple, it will stream PlayStation games through Gaikai, all you'll need is a Dual Shock 4 and a PS+/Gaikai subscription.

well they did almost 30 minutes of tv tv tv at e3 that got brush under the hey look no drm rug.   now just like those that used to bash paying for live are ok with paying those that bash tv tv tv will be ok with tv tv tv because sony will make the best tv tv tv in the world because entertainment is in their name

MS took the bashing, it's played out now. It's ok for Sony to add TV now.

When you announce it right away, you get "WTF we dont need these extra features!"

You announce it after the fact, you get "Awesome!  new Features!"

Gotta love it.

Well,uhm.. Sony already had "PlayTV"/"Torne" for years in Europe/Japan

I think it's just that Microsoft is the easiest to pick on.
