Forums - Sony Discussion - Won a Warhawk Tournament, Entered to Win a PS3

First off, the 'tournament' I won involved about eight people, two of which were friends. We were all pretty much noobs and I came out on top with my two friends taking second and third.

The contest is legit and sponsored by Sony: here's the link.

All right, here's what happened: My friend who works in the Navy Commissary came over to my house on Sunday to tell me about a Warhawk tournament down there. The Sony bus comes down there occassionaly filled with demos and what-not. From what he told me we could win a PS3, $250, or $100. I'm like "Whatever, let's do it." We grabbed another friend and headed down there kind of expecting it to be a rather big thing. There aren't whole lot of people around minus the people trying out the demos, but I just assumed the pros were just kind of hiding in the shadows.

The first time I touched the PS3 controller I remembered why I never bought a FPS on the PS2: I. HATE. AIMING. WITH. THAT. CONTROLLER. We had about two hours of practice to get in and I already felt we didn't have a chance. There are some aspects of Warhawk that I don't like, the obvious auto-aim for one, but I won't get into those right now (the game is still very fun either way). It took about an hour and a half before I finally got used to the controls (plus some adjustments to the controller configurations). I started off getting last place but by the end I was climbing to first.

The time of the tournament came around and low and behold all the people that had been playing the demos in the bus were all that showed up for the tournament. We were pretty surprised. Apparently, another one of these tournaments had been held the day before and about 20-30 people showed up. This tournament had at most nine people, and one person didn't show up.

The whole 'tournament' didn't last 30 minutes and I was declared the winner of the last round (the first round I came in second tieing with someone for 9). I was so siked since I thought I had won the PS3 but was then let down when I was only handed a copy of Warhawk and a PS3 shirt. I asked the guy about the PS3 and his response was that I was entered to win a PS3. Bah, I knew it was too good to be true.

He said that all of the winners of the tournaments would be entered to win the three prizes of: 1.) A 40G PS3 with games. 2.) $250. 3.) $100. He said that there should be 20 winners, so I have a 1 in 20 chance of winning it. It sucks not winning the PS3 off the bat, but the odds of winning the drawing are pretty good compared to other sweepstakes... (Now I'm just trying not to feel bad).

Well, here's hoping I get that special e-mail from Sony saying 'I AM T3H W1NN3R!i!i!' I'll update this thread if I get one of the prizes.   Also, this is the first time I've heard of this promotion and had to look on the Sony site for it.  Has anyone heard of this before?

(Note: Well, this was a good way to procrastinate from Calculus homework.)
