Somepoint in the second half of 2014. I expect the Wii U to pick up some bit with the many new games it's getting. Also, it depends on how many shortages there are for PS4.

How long did it take the Wii to overtake Xbox 360 in 2007?  it could be something like that

Sometimes I just don't understand this console war. Do people also discuss this brand of TV surpass another brand of TV or this brand of ice box surpass another brand of ice box in sales?

Besides the console war, I also don't understand the phone war, OS war or tablet war.

I think we have more topics to discuss. How about games.....

Did these conversations take place back in the day, about when PS3 would overtake the Wii, or Vita overtake the 3DS?? I think you should be more worried if it can beat out Xbone at launch, as proved in the past, anything can happen in the world of gaming.

I wish I could find it again but one guy named Movie Bob brought up some valid points that Sony's first two wins were just flukes created by a vacuum in the market. I agree because since then they have lost all focus and seem intent on emulating their competitors rather than do their own things.


Yeah, they were flukes...

Look at how disastrously they handled the PS3 then look at its sales. The Wii on the other hand...

 

OT: I don't think that it'll be as quick as a lot of you are saying. I see games like MK and Smash pushing the Wii U a lot.

I agree that its likely Wii U will outsell PS4 in 2014. Its got a lot of huge selling franchises coming later this year and next, DKC, 3D World, Wii Fit, Mario Kart, Smash Bros and im guessing Wii Sports+Zelda next holiday, those are all pretty gauranteed to sell over 5m with somw having a chance at 10m+. Also a price cut later this year or early next year.

On the other hand, the majority of PS4 games will also be on One, PS3, 360, PC. It has a good amount of quality exclusives as well but none that sell nearly as much as Nintendo franchises. Killzone and Infamous are very solid series but dont usually sell a ton, Knack, Driveclub, The Order are unproven but none look like a killer app. I know there are more exclusives to be announced Media Molecule or Naughty Dogs next gen games could release next year and might push hardware.

Wii U Mario Kart 8 bundle-$299 vs PS4 w/no game-$399 or PS4 w/Camera+game-$499, also Plus-$50 (great value but still adds to cost)

Masses do not care for PC, neither do the majority of console gamers.

But i agree there is no way the ps4 is selling that much on day one, but I expect it to sell extremely well. The price is perfect, both it and the X1 has the best launch line up we've probably ever seen for a new console. 3-4m depending on when it launches is what I'm expecting, essentially they will sell through their initial shipment.
 
Should pass the Wii U in late 2014.

Three million isn't much, especially right now. I say the PS4 will outsell the Wii U relatively quickly, but the Xbox as usual will be breathing down the PS4's neck as it always does to try to take its attention away from the prize. I say the Wii U will have 5 million by 1st quarter 2014 so the PS4 will catch up by September, November 2014 if anything.
