Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How has Nintendo done with their 1 year lead?

So?

Good 26 4.84%

Terrible 183 34.08%

Whats a Wii U? 64 11.92%

They dropped the ball. 144 26.82%

ok, could've been so much better though. 120 22.35%

Total:537

As about as bad as the haters could hope for.

You could go on for hours on the ways they fudged this console release up but in the end the other consoles really don't have much yet besides power to offer consumers. Nintendo has a chance, although they wasted the lead in time.

OK, I guess.

In retrospect the Wii U could not possibly do well before the PS4/ XB1 come to market. The natural comparison is to look at the Wii U and compare it to the PS3/360 consoles. Compared to them it has no titles and is more expensive. Why buy?

That flips when competition comes to market. The PS4/ XB1 will look expensive and like they don't have a library by comparison.

In so many words, the only advantage Nintendo gained was a year to make first party software so their console has the bigger library when competition launches. Assuming nothing gets delayed or cancelled, they did that pretty well.

Almost as badly as Microsoft did back in 2006.

Wii U is actually behind the Xbox 360 in a comparable timeframe from launch:

Xbox 360: 3,617,529 units sold by June 24th 2006

Wii U: 3,191,581 units sold by June 22nd 2013

I'm goving Nintendo a bit of a break because Microsoft had better support from 3rd parties in the first half of 2006 (Fight Night, Burnout, Tom Clancy, Battlefield, Tomb Raider, Hitman, etc).

Love and tolerate.

The only failure on Nintendo's part is the lack of major first party titles. If Pikmin 3 had not been delayed the system would be a much greater success by now. Also games like Wii Fit U and Mario Kart would have given the system millions more sales. This is the only failure so far, and it will be corrected in the coming months, where sales will pick up and all these doomsayers will be proven wrong yet again.

It's just that for them, no matter what happens, Nintendo is always doomed (since 1889).

Considering how quickly Wii support up and evaporated, the lack of games for the WiiU in its first seven months is pretty much unforgivable. I, along with many other people, quite reasonably assumed that Nintendo had moved off Wii to ensure that the WiiU would hit the ground running in terms of software support, making the most of the early start, but it was not to be.

This is what I can't figure out. They weren't making Wii games. They clearly weren't making Wii U games. The 3DS went through its drought... what the hell were they doing?

Skyward Sword - At E3 2011 they bragged about putting 200 people on the game for the final stage of development. This insanity first affected development of 3DS games, so Retro had to help out on Mario Kart 7. Since the workforce that was put on Skyward Sword had to concentrate on 3DS games afterwards (to catch up on the work they should have been doing), Wii U development suffered as a consequence. Everything fell behind schedule, because the Zelda team is incredibly incompetent. A game like Skyward Sword shouldn't take more than 50 people, because a formula exists and this particular game wasn't all that big in scale and scope anyway.

I agree that SS took way more time and resources than it should given the only moderately impressive end results.  But 200 isn't that big a deal with a staff over 1200.

I'd say that they've done OK so far, however I'm not sure about the rest the year.

lol whut!? You're OK with a 7 month drought, but you're not sure about the rest of the year when it actually gets games?

I didn't mean that I think it will do bad, I meant that I'm neutral, and that it could turn out good or bad.

they droped the ball, if sony makes as many PS4 as they said the ps4 will pass the installed base of the wiiu in a matter of months.. what hurt the wiiu is the console not haveing the power of the ps4

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

That's not what I'm getting at. You said you're ok with nothing, but you're not sure what to think of it after it actually get's games. I would think lot's of games is a million times better than no games at all, but maybe I'm just crazy. :L
