Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft: Xbox One's cloud support will "eliminate unfair advantages" in multiplayer

if every game has dedicated servers than xbox live is finally making its 60$ price tag worth it. i hope they do this.

I hope Sony have the ability and amount of servers to allow every single game dedicated servers. Otherwise Microsoft have a MASSIVE advantage for those who like to play online.

Knowing MS, I highly doubt all games will have dedicated server support.

Good to see MS is still playing catch up to Sony in regards to features...

Laughing at the idea of a lag switch being used for a racing game.
.

Why? How does it differ from a shooter? People who hate loosing aren't going to stop because of genre. Same goes for cheating.

There is nothing to be gained using it in a racer.

You've never had a lagged opponent on a racer?

Lagging in a racer would just slow you down.  In shooters that delay allows you more time to shoot people.

Lagging in a racer doesn't just slow you down, it makes in unplayable for me,

I remember people lagging a lot in nfs so the cars just jump all over the place,

So when i was entering a corner, a car might pop up out of no where and crash into me, it definitly would help alot in racers as well..

LOL LMFAO.... "Sony dropped some money when it was free" they couldn't even drop a 10th of what MS thrown into cloud for the past decade if they wanted to.... heck I wouldn't be surprised if Sony's servers are not running Microsoft OS....
Anything Sony is capable of in terms of server infrastructure in comparison to MS is and will be a joke.... comparing the two is like comparing a professional athlete to an amateur one.... Sony has neither the money nor the skill to invest and create an infrastructure MS is capable of.... no matter how you guys try to swing it.... this is the one thing Sony will not have the edge ever in the next decades

Given the 300k servers, they now surpassed Sony in this featur.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

P2P is probably the worst thing when it comes to online gaming, bring on the dedicated servers (finally!) so we can get rid of that blight.

I can't entirely agree.  The problem with dedicated servers is that whatever game that is using them will eventually be shut down, after that point you will no longer be able to play multiplayer.  Also, 300,000 virtual servers isn't nearly enough to properly support all the regions that would need them for online multiplayer.  That's the good thing about P2P, multiplayer will always work, and there are plenty of host to choose from that are located locally.  When P2P is implemented properly it should work as good and in many instances better than dedicated servers.

All that said, I do hope that we will see a lot more games using dedicated servers because I think the pros mostly outweight the cons.

MS Azure cloud is already up and running well in countries scattered all across the world. they wont have to shut servers down because they have a flexible system that uses servers as needed. Its not dedicated as in 1 server in one location for 1 purpose. its dedicated in that its not P2P. their servers can be used for what ever, when ever. thats the benifit of having the second biggest and best cloud service as your backbone. it gives you all the options, and its all in place already, and its all used worldwide by business and government so it has good stablity and servers all over. Azure is a great cloud service, second only to Amazon cloud services.

Once Activision hits a trillion dollars made for COD they may implement dedicated servers. Until then I'll just purchase every single other game that will be running on dedicated servers.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to use a windows based OS for a server apart from corporate deals? Linux has always been the superior choice. Not to mention Gakai is already better than MS cloud...

"built the world's fastest and most widespread cloud gaming network." - gakai.com (they hold the record)
