Forums - Gaming Discussion - I sold my Xbox 360 and bought a tablet. Is this the way things are going?

Is this the end of games consoles? This week I decided to end the beatiful three-console arrangement in my house (360, PS3, Wii U) in order to put the money toward a Nook HD+ tablet.

I sold the 360 for £90 to put the cash towards a tablet for £190. The tab is 243ppi 9 inch 1920x1200 resolution, 32GB with an SD card slot (finally!) and access to Google Play/full Android apps.

I already have a 5.5inch Galaxy Note II, but I can't resist having a tablet just for BluRay rips and some lighter gaming.

Is this the way things are going these days? Are more and more people trimming down their consoles to diversify into tablets?

I still intend to get a PS4 later this year, and keep the Wii U (MK8/SSBU), but won't get an Xbox One.

Have I made the right decision?

Nope....For some yes I guess but for many tablets just dont cut it when it comes to gaming.

Off Topic love your avatar.

It's the way the world is going, PS4 and XB1 are going to struggle because so many people are just playing games on tablets instead

It makes me sad

I think there is still a place for consoles. I'm keeping my PS3 and Wii U and will buy a PS4.

But I think there will be more people who have fewer consoles and diversify with tablets etc to mix it up a bit. This is only going to see lower console sales in general, but consoles will still sell.

Five years ago I would have put the 360 money toward an Xbox One to make sure I had all three again. This time around, I just feel like diversifying into tablet ownership would be more beneficial than owning all three consoles...

Do others feel the same?

Sounds like you made the optimal choice in my opinion.

Although i see my tablet more like a alternative to what i use a desktop PC or Laptop for.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

yes, Wii U and PS4 is all you need from the home console side of things :P

I got a Wii U, PS4 is pre-ordered, a shit ton of games pre-ordered for both, and I've got a 3DS and tablet for my handheld gaming

No? maybe for some people but I have no use for a tablet at all. I could not see myself spending 60$ on one. But I could be different as I have never owned a smartphone before either. Never really payed for any phone or tablet.

I just sold my 360 today not to buy a tablet but to preorder a PS4. I do have plans to buy a new high-end android/win8 tablet sometime in Q1 next year but that is because I am renewing my Tech lineup at home.

New TV-New Receiver-360 sold for a PS4-New Ultrabook-New phone-New tablet
But still my ps4 will be my gaming machine from nov and on

I can see that the casuals - the ones that used to buy a wii this gen - is going to switch to tablets and phones but for us real hardcore gamers a tablet will never replace a console

Well if you didn't use the 360 then you made the right decision, especially if you think a tablet will be more useful.

I have a Nexus 7 and i must say there are some good games on the Play Store. Square Enix's Final Fantasy 3 & 4 among some others are just amazing.

That being said, it hasn't replaced my console, PS3 in my case, if anything i wish those games i mentioned were playable on the PS3 lol
