I believe SEGA just released a pseudo sequal for that game on the PSP. Its japan only though and i doubt its any good. Sega isnt what they used to be.

Both games were created by Tetsuya Takahashi. who left Square Soft (Xenogears) to become a founder of Monolith Soft (Xenosaga, Xenoblade)

I know Xenosage have relation with Xenogers... but Xenoblade too? I mean... storyline.

Officially, no. But you can connect the dots if you want. Xenosaga is episodes 1 to 3. Xenogears is episode 5 and mentions what was probably episode 4.

From the ending of episode 3 i understood the team wanted to delve into the creations of the universe. Unsurprisingly it seemed to have been the theme of Xenoblade, even though i never played it.

The saga was supposed to span 6 episodes. And from what i gather Xenoblade wasnt originally part of it. But, maybe someone who played it can shed light on this. I dont see how Xenoblade can be episode 4 though, since xenogears starts in the basis of an already established universe.

Xenogears is the fifth game in the Xenogears series if it actually went on to be a series.

When they created Xenosaga, they wanted to start from scratch and include a story that resembeled Xenogears in the middle, then have a couple episodes after that.  So Xenosaga should have actually only been two games.  It's clear they had no idea what they wanted to do after finishing the first game so most of the second game being about the past and back story of characters like Jin and Jr, they really failied to actually push the storyline along anywhere really.  It's pretty obvious they screwed up with the second one and they had to create a third one once again with the same characters, create what they probably never planned, and put the series to a close.  Creating an extra game though, the next episode would have been prior to the similarity they wanted with Xenogears, and then the fifth one would have actually been the Xenogears like remake, but they would have made a six and seventh to end it instead of just six.  More if they pulled another colossal f*** up like they did with Xenosaga 2.

The bullshit some little kids (obviously) spout around here is unbelievable, why the fuck do u try to give advices & recommend a game when u don't have idea for what u r talking about? Xenogears holds LEGENDARY status & it's the only game I put next to FFVII, it's by far one of the best JRPGs ever created & one of best JRPGs/Games I have ever play, & btw I play JRPGs the past 16 years & I have finish countless & for sure most of the good ones.

So "think-man" ignore any1 who make negative comments about this specific game because if u love old-school traditional JRPGs this is as good as it gets, there is nothing like it or will ever created, Xenogears is no brain one of best JRPGs of all time, go ahead & play it, I'm sure u will enjoy it immensely & know that I'm jealous of u, the experience to play a JRPG like Xenogears for the first time is something I crave to experience once again but that quality doesn't exist anymore in our days.

Tell me about it. Its criminal. I would buy Xenogears and Chrono cross for my collection on the Vita/PSP in aheartbeat, but square europe seems stuck up on not letting us have them.

Lucky for me, i have a us account, which allowed me to get chrono cross/trigger/xenogears/persona 2/legend of dragoon

Anyway, does Xenogears still hold up in gameplay?

I can't say because I didn't played Xenogears after PS1 era but Grandia gameplay hold up pretty good... better than a lot of JRPG released in this generation.

Nice to know because Xenoblade seems to be a great JRPG... I know Xenogears talk about predecessors and previous lifes ... so it is the last.

I didn't like the first Xenosaga... so I never tried the others.

Give Xenosaga another try, seriously. I haven't played Xenogears yet but Xenosaga has the most developed world and story in any JRPG I've played. The first one really isn't that good though, yeah, and the second has its problems too but the third one is a top 5 PS2 RPG and pretty much redeems the entire series.

Then after playing you HAVE to read the Perfect Guide (spoilers): http://translations.xenotensei.com/Xeno3/

Anyway, does Xenogears still hold up in gameplay?

Xenogears gameplay is basically the same as Xenosaga episode 3, so yeah it help up.

Thanks, Just started playing it today! the soundtrack is amazing and so is the game so far from what I have played.

I haven't read many of the above comments and here is my take:
I played it last summer. If you are looking for an old-school RPG this is where to look! The combat is different than most turn-based RPGs, the Mech combat is neat. The storyline is the gold. Absolutely incredible story.
Disc 1 is just incredible. Disc 2 they had budgeting issues so it is more of an interactive story.

This game made me play Xenosaga 1-3, and then Xenogears. Overall these games are some of my favourite story-wise of all time.
