Forums - General Discussion - Why do people bother? (wall of text)

Just started my new job and honestly, I just feel like giving up on life at this point.

It's like people have this obsessive compulsion to be positive and throwaway their lives for green paper. Seriously, people would bark like dogs and kill others if it meant there was enough money in it.

I think I've slowly grown to hate capitalism. The rich just become richer, and people in the middle class and lower classes are just obsessed with everyone working for some self-deluded sense of 'honor' or 'empowerment' of working. It makes sense if you're committed to something like a relationship or children but I feel absolutely sick of the very concept of forcing others to work.

When I worked in Walmart for about a year, there was no regard for safety. If you were injured, they would write a bad report on some presumed misconduct you did to have you fired and that way the company wouldn't have to pay for your injuries. I saw a lot of people leave with broken legs and sometimes broken backs in the receivings area when unloading trucks. Especially if the palettes fell on them. And of course, nobody followed the safety regulations set forth by the State and Federal government. Finding out some plant blew up and killed 70 elderly people in a nearby nursing home in Texas wasn't surprising because, hey, capitalism doesn't like following safety rules.

Maybe people like believing it was incompetence. But no, it was probably the mentality of feeling rushed and thinking nothing bad would actually happen.

Working briefly in paralegal made me realize how lawyers will just use people around them for their own purpose. Trading things like visitation rights and lighter sentences just to gain praise and credit on a case while HSBC got a light fine for aiding and assisting Al Qaeda in millions of terrorist money laundering (I wish I was joking).

And now, I'm a door to door salesman. Ripping people off one step at a time. Gotta love how the supervisor says outside factors like the internet, weather, and cheaper competitor products are all irrelevant and all it really is, is your work effort. And of course, I'm expected to use my own car, gas money, and come into work early for unpaid training because the product is all that matters. Happy enthusiatic psychos is all companies want out of their employees. Even the group and leader building workshops don't seem worth it anymore. Also, gotta love how the supervisor asks what we should aim for, as if we actually have a choice, and then act like we're pathetic if we don't aim for impossibly high 'goals'.

Oh, yes, you're probably thinking something about God or family. I doubt God's existence because the more I think about religion, the more it seems like a way for the rich to control the poor. That's exactly what happens when religion blends with politics and many of the employees I met at Walmart had the idea that they needed to work until they died in the future at such a terrible job. Whether for their kids, or self-doubt, or both, it doesn't matter. Faith provides the perfect "happy magic everything is worth it" garbage idealism necessary to exploit others. And that's what capitalism is all about, exploiting everyone until they're dead.

But hey, you probably won't even listen to what I have to say and insist I'm some stupid emo kid, even though I've worked three jobs and experienced the same things you have. After all, better an ad hominem than acknowledging the truth. It's either this terrible garbage or third-world country style living. Or fascism, which is super-capitalism. No surprise, since capitalism is great for war and violence, and the Nazis used the capitalistic mantra "the Jews have all our jobs" to slaughter the innocent Jewish people. Capitalism at it's finest.

So really, it's either third world countries, genocidal capitalism, or this slow and stressful suffocation of capitalism.  I honestly don't want children, I'd never be able to handle the horrifying guilt of bringing someone into this world to experience this crap. May as well get out early so you won't have to deal with such a horrible system or better yet, never exist.

At this point, I'd rather just die. It's not like any of that work ever even had a point or purpose to begin with.

That's why it's important to find a job in a field you love. No point in spending a large chunk of your life in a field you hate over money.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

Yeah, I thought the same but... how long before I get bored? How long before I hate it? Or worst of all, how long before I feel like I've accomplished my fill and don't know what to do next? I'm not even sure if it would be a mistake and a waste of a majority of my lifetime on this planet.

It sucks man I know :( Luckily here in NZ its so easy to get an education don't need to save any money or anything so you can easily swap professions ( I was a plumber now im a computer programmer lol)

They didnt give a fu*k about my safety when I was plumbing so told them to get stuffed and went and did something else.

Stay positive, lifes a gift.

Thats some serious crap there. My advice, get off the forums and go talk to somebody in real life about it...

Well if you find something you truely love than you might not ever get bored, but say in 10-15 years you have had enough than you find something else you're passionate about. My friend recently started taking things he finds for cheap at garage sales over at a local flea market and selling them. He says he's never been happier. He spends all his time driving around looking through other peoples things that they no longer want, or hitting up thrift stores and than he sells them that weekend at the flea market. Honestly he finds at least 100-200$ worth of gold and silver throughout the week alone for dirt cheap because places can't tell if its real or costume. Last week he sold 1400$ worth of junk which he spent 300$ on. That's not too shabby. With time maybe he'll make more and more who knows. His g/f gets on his case about not feeling secure etc but he doesn't give a rats ass he's finally doing something he loves and he's never been happier.  Be honest with your self and find your passion.

Its all for ownership and family. You need to buy a house. Wait. that will take an entire lifetime at minimum wage. I guess find happiness in slavery or get a degree (without loans)
