Well its definitely easy to say such a thing now... The fact that they didn't specify before does make it suspicious, but then again there wasn't anything to specify as they weren't making any changes. Also Jack Tretton said that that he was against the idea over a year ago to the press so I wasn't surprised.

SONY in the Begining: "Ristrictions on used games will be up to the publisher."
PS Fans: "So exactly as it is on PS3 now? Cool."
Other Console fans: "No. It means they can implement the same level of DRM as Xbone. SONY's just setting up a scapegoat for themselves."

SONY later on: "Ristrictions on used games will be up to the publisher."
PS Fans: "It really seems like it's just the same system as the PS3 in which publishers can use a method like online passes."
Other Console fans: "No. Expect DRM similar to what MS is doing system wide but by every single publisher. Microsoft is forcing it and SONY is allowing it."

SONY at E3: "It's exactly the same as it is on PS3."
PS Fans: "Fuck yea."
Other console fans: "... "

This is hilarious

So true though. What makes this even more funny was that it was Shuhei Yoshida himself who said "restrictions on used games will be up to the publisher" in the very first interview on all this. Not only have they been saying the same thing but its also been the same guy saying the same thing.

Na, xbox fans told me the opposite I think they know better than that random dude

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

IMVHO, it was quite predictable that MS would have tried something like what it actually tried, so it was for Sony a safe bet. What was a lot less predictable was MS giving up so easily, but even more so, Sony made a good choice, very competitive in the best scenario (that almost happened, until MS gave up), matching the competition in the worse.

I wouldn't say MS gave up easily. It was a short time frame but there was A LOT of negative press flying in their direction which was leading to far too much positive press for the competition. They couldn't ignore that.

Maybe, but I expected at least a few more attempts to pass off the vocal statements of the few that defended MS (some were even actively monitoring forums, swooping in on whoever criticized MS' policy and contradicting them, and creating their own threads to defend it) as the will of the majority.
