Forums - Gaming Discussion - Edge magazine goes CRAZY- "ps4 is your next console", "One; titanic failures"

I think Sony will steamroll them with price and exclusives and Sony will match MS for every price cut before the end like they did with the PS2. No matter what MS did they were always behind Sony. Microsoft will be buying up a lot of third party real estate this gen to measure up. Their Blacktusk shooter might work on the Americans though. Sony will hit gamers with a barrage of games like they always do. I've noticed with Sonys mentality its not about having an amazing hit which MS does, its about offering great content across the board and profiting off of all of them, ensuring sequels.

If they make some sku without kinect they can go down with the price by more than $100 at no loss. If MS fix the price disparity sony is going to lose big in US and UK.

But that's the thing now, no? There's a lot of XBox fans that got disappointed by the poor late gen first party support by MS, who went and picked a PS3 because of how compelling the line-up was on that console in comparison. Who's to say they won't continue with Sony moving forward?

You would think so, but most of the curves for Sony 1st party games don't support the theory (most are constant), so ultimately it begs the question "why did they pick up a PS3?". Odds are many saw it as a great opportunity to have an integrated blu-ray player, get some PSN games and maybe even upgrade their PS3 phat. Some gamers dropped out and some new ones came in, that could explain the consistency in the curves rather than a drop, but MS's halo didn't drop either so it begs the question if the xbox fans really left.

I won't deny that some conversion work was commenced on the PS3 thanks to a steady flow of new content, but ultimately again it's my strong belief that the Americas don't work on that strategy anymore (the PS2 strategy), and now live off the xbox strategy (the big blockbusters). Looking at COD and Halo it's not so far-fetched.

@S.T.A.G.E. It sure did make them more powerful, for sure, and on the very long run it will help them. But until Sony can fend MS off on the level of Halo, in Americas and in the UK it will remain a tough battle.

you sure do put a lot of faith in Microsoft when it comes to Halo. Halo cannot save the Xbox. It couldn't save the original and it played second fiddle to COD on the Xbox 360. Do you know what helped Sony steamroll ahead of Microsoft this gen? Overall value. Apparently they were late to the party but eventually they still came.

anybody thinking ps3 is profitable or will ever be a profitable console is really delusional.

It is most likely turning a profit now on each unit sold but will never be a profitable console overall

Wow, looks like Sony paid them lots of $$$ to write that.

Yeah. The article doesn't even consider the WiiU. So they must have bribed them to write it, or its written by some fanboy. Oh well, its not like MS doesn't bribe loads of people to say good things about them.

If the base for this choice turn out to be games related or specs related, then I'm sure they have been paid.

If their argument is the price then maybe they have a point.

Opinion

Has anyone ever read a Edge magazine? For a bunch of people spread across the world, everyone is very well informed about a UK publication releasing to now only 25000 people (in the UK). Future Plc publish more than just Edge, they do Official Nintendo, Xbox and Playstation magazines as well in the UK. They don't also seem to be biased regardless of the one instance you guys have shown from another cover of the magazine from 7 years ago which praised the PS3. They love games and innovation.

They are known for being big supporters of developers too, advertising jobs and such alike. Which makes me think, PS4 and Sony's stance on self publication on PS Store might have had a huge influence on their decision. Many Developers have come out and said the support they get from Sony against the opposite from MS show great progress, Sony' allow self publication, MS don't and for many developers this is a big thing and no doubt something that will rub off on a magazine like Edge which has no doubt many dealings with Developers.

But hey, what do I know, it's not like I've read the article, what about you guys? Did you go to your local WHSmiths and buy a copy or what?

Hmm, pie.

Dude the Wii U is already out. Look at its sales. Its showing that people with current gen or are ready to buy current gen consoles are not differentiating the Wii U from the current gen. have you seen the Wii U's sales this week? The PS3 and 360 are beating it by multiples with Sony being in the lead over 100K.

By the next gen consoles launch (as in tech) people will marvel at it and specifically in America they will look at the price and say, "Why is the Wii U fifty dollars cheaper than the PS4? on one of the models?" Nintendo really needed a true mario game this year with Mario Kart to boot. Sure those games are not going to give it Wii-like sales but what also hurts is the third party.

EDGE is an exceptionally truthful magazine that states when they like or dislike something.  Has some of the best articles and the cleanest photos of games you'll come by which is why its so expensive compared to the competition. Obviously this issue is reacting to the early part of this month before the DRM was removed a week later when MS said "we can't just remove it".

Does that mean none of Sony's IP's can save them as not a single one of them managed to outsell Halo 3 (likely Halo 4 will outsell every Sony exclusive too)?

I hardly call 6 years to overtake a "inferior powered, less value" console "steamrollin".  Japan pushed the PS3 ahead of the 360, pure and simple, without it Sony were a distant second.
