Sony Confirms PlayStation 4 Does Not Have a Power Brick

Shuhei Yoshida, Sony President of Worldwide Studios, has confirmed via Twitter that the PlayStation 4 will not use a power brick. Instead, the power supply will be housed internally, not unlike the Xbox One.

Additional details regarding the PlayStation 4's power supply and how the company managed to fit it within the console's relatively small casing are still unknown, but at least we have a better idea of what Sony has in store for us later this year.

Great if you need the extra space I guess.

hmm, I'm not good at technology stuff, but won't the PS4 have overheating problems since its quite small?

Unlikely, considering Sony's history... PS3 had/has an internal power supply as well and didn't suffer from overheating problems.

.... umm no? size doesn't matter, it just need good air flow. just look at the wii. smaller than 360 but 0 over heating problems. over heating is more to do with the processor and mainly stuff in side the system

It's using technology which is essentially developed for note-/net-/ultrabooks, which have a much slimmer formfactor, so I'm pretty sure there won't be overheating problems for the vast majority of users

Nope, your thinking of the 360 there.

I had a chat long ago with my buddy who is tech savvy. I m citing his opinions.
"separate psu can not provide any modern power regulation and management options. they only provide a rated voltage. say 12V. but, an internal psu can communicate with the machine on separate wires can provide console circuit extra protection."

I never saw a Sony console with power brick... so what the surprise here?

And the PS3 Slim have similar size than PS4 with two processors chips bigger than PS4 APU, consuming more power and Sony didn't have issues.

I'm more surprise how can a suck big box have power brick lol
