This. In terms of budget, sure it's beyond obvious, but some games simply don't work that well on a console. It depends on the grenre. For example, I play a brain training game called Smart as almost every day. There's no way I'd bother playing it on my ps3. Also, platform games work much better on a handheld. I think I got Rayman Legends (ps3) for free and never bothered playing it, while on my vita, it was one of the best games I had played in years.

So in other words, no console games are not better, just more polished and worth more money for the whole package (sound etc).

Most of the software seen on portable devices just feels like a watered down console experience on the go.

Console games simply because the handheld ones are usually gimped versions of the same franchise. Yes some work better on handhelds but if you are sitting at home and choosing between Uncharted GA and Uncharted 3 then I'm choosing Uncharted 3 every time. Pokemon is the only exception I see and I wish they would just bring that to home consoles (a real one) and give it HD WiiU graphics. That would be SCHWEET! Also a Pokemon MMO would be awesome and perhaps keep the handheld sales going like Nintendo wants (that's the only reason it hasn't come to home consoles yet I think).

There are some very well made handheld games and I do enjoy them very much, but they don't compare to console games.  The only franchise that I can think of that is better on handheld is Pokemon, but everything else I can think of goes to consoles.

For me, it's true that console gaming is better than handheld gaming before current generation (Wii, PS360). As for now, I really think handheld gaming is better than console gaming in general.
I've said that because I can find many different genre and new concept in handheld gaming than console gaming, regardless of the limitation of the handheld hardware. I think that's because the big budget of the console makes the many developer scared to try a new thing with their games. I know some of them still do. Well, I know diversity in genre and new concept doesn't translate into "better" games instantly...
