Surely people learned something from last generation. Hopefully. And when did "next-gen" become defined by how many polygons you can stuff into a generic shooter? I thought "next-gen" was about evolving, you know, in general.

Yes, the Wii U isn't next gen. New Nintendo games like the upcoming Metroid game aren't enough, plus they havent made a new IP since Pikmin. A hardcore third party multiplat game that will be on PS3 and 360 too like Watch Dogs could have convinced me of the opposite, but it isn't coming.

However, the real reason why the Wii U isn't next gen is because it still has free online multiplayer. It was great last gen, but nowadays it's just meh. What's wrong with you, Nintendo? Why we cannot pay for online like the others?

though the gamepad isn't necessarily going to define this generation of games, it will definitely be a part of them.
