Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The stunning graphics and brutal gameplay of 'Ryse: Son of Rome'

It does indeed look amazing

Around the Network

"We have this concept we call mashing to mastery. The idea is that anyone can play it and they can mash the buttons and fight, but if you get the right timing you're able to actually master it. Master the reaction you get out of the AI. You worked on the AI, you get them to this executable state and you execute them and we're like: "Why does it have to stop there?" "Why do I have to stop and watch this movie play out?". Because we've all played games that have executions and like 30 minutes into them you're like "Really, I smash this guys head, then I stab then I kick him." So we're like, well, let's continue the flow, let's make it open up a window and let's give guys who want to spend time learning it more of a reward bonus."

.....How Crytek came up with the combat system, this game looks pretty but holy fuck is the gameplay bad.

"I’m on the battlefield. I’m stomping through the corpses of my comrades swinging my sword at anything that moves. I begin a combo, I slash twice and then whooom slow motion is initiated, shit is about to get ‘cinematic’. A button prompt hovers elusively above the sword I’m about to drive into the throat of my enemy… argh I’m too slow! The prompt flickers, disappears.

I missed it. Damn.

But then somehow, for some reason, I still complete the cinematic ‘kill’.

What?

Maybe it’s a bug I think, but no. Next time I deliberately press the wrong button. The kill goes ahead, no consequences. Then I try hitting no buttons whatsoever. The kill goes ahead. I put the controller on the table in front of me, the kill goes ahead.

What is going on here?

I ask one of the Crytek people hovering at the booth – is this a bug? Why am I completing kills when I hit the wrong button prompt? Or, worse, no button at all. Turns out it was a deliberate design choice.

“We don’t want the player to feel frustrated,” I am told."

This game is going to be shit, A game based around QTE's that land so long as you press a button on time, what the fuck Crytek?

OK.

Lets put an end to this once and for all. Go to this link

It is Jeff Cannata talking about Ryse behind closed doors. He explains the combat is like Batman Arkham City and the reason the game has quick finishing moves in the trailer is because the developers turned the hit points down for the enemies so they died quicker.

Also they are not QTE's and he explains this in the video.

He also goes in depth about a lot of things people are complaining about. For once people should watch, listen, and take in the information so we don't have posters going to every Ryse thread and complaining about things that are not true.

That's just what this game need to get some hype. A video of 2 guys talking about it.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I love what I see so far looking forward to playing this game.

Me too, I want to see this demo people are talking about.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
