Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The stunning graphics and brutal gameplay of 'Ryse: Son of Rome'

Examiner

E3 2013 saw a lot of great games this year, and one of the more gory, yet visually stunning games had to be Crytek's Ryse: Son of Rome.

In a closed doors demo of the upcoming Xbox One title, we had the chance to get an inside look at what people can expect from this game. Yes, there is going to be a large amount of violence, and that was evident with the demo Microsoft showed off at their press conference.

But there definitely seems to be more to this game than has been revealed so far. The demo only showcased a handful of combos for taking down enemies, but the developers on hand promised that there will be nearly 20 different ways to eliminate your opponents.

The combat system looks like it will lend itself just fine to players, but it will need to be one that is varied if it hopes to keep people's attention over the course of a long campaign.

We asked the developers about the violence in the game, and they said it's there to represent the time period in history and to do justice for what war was really like then. But, they did say the violence was not something they wanted to dwell on from a gameplay standpoint.

As you would expect history to play an important role in the narrative of the game and creation of the world, Crytek said they wanted to be very historically based with the elements that were in this game.

Everything you will see in this game, is going to be the product of historical research and evidence, with of course, some fictional liberties taken as well.

In addition, people can expect to see some element of gladiator fighting in another mode of Ryse: Son of Rome. While the developers on hand were cagy about those details, they did say there will be an element of that in the game.

This will be an interesting element to the game, but Crytek will need to be smart about how they implement gladiator matches.

Ryse: Son of Rome is set to hit the Xbox One this holiday season.

Visually great and it looks like it's gonna be an immersible game with very detailed environment.

Looks pretty cool, ive seen it get critisized for being too scripted but Uncharted/God of War had alot of moments like that and I loved those games. Speaking of God of War, I wonder if this will be considered the Xbox counterpart.

Ryse had more QTS in its 7 minutes video than entire Uncharted 1+2 games combined

I don't know. I'm still not convinced. Like I see how this will appeal to millions of people that bought and like God of War, and the whole cinematic approach... but I am not one of those people.

I'd like to see some RPG and strategy gameplay ideas thrown in. there was a game this gen called Viking made by Creative Assembly which had some very cool and original ideas in terms of army battles. Would like to see something like that instead of God of War style QTE, violence and cutscenes...

Is the whole game like that tho? I thought it was just a demo showing off all the combos

I dont know, they showed the combat at E3, and im guessing since this is a war game we'll be seeing alot of combat and thus alot of QTEs

OK.

Lets put an end to this once and for all. Go to this link

http://youtu.be/M67wgVAavrI?t=36s

It is Jeff Cannata talking about Ryse behind closed doors. He explains the combat is like Batman Arkham City and the reason the game has quick finishing moves in the trailer is because the developers turned the hit points down for the enemies so they died quicker.

Also they are not QTE's and he explains this in the video.

He also goes in depth about a lot of things people are complaining about. For once people should watch, listen, and take in the information so we don't have posters going to every Ryse thread and complaining about things that are not true.

I finally watched the trailer. Yeah holy balls the graphics are unbelievable, but the gameplay seems meh.

Also, did anyone notice during the beach landing, there was a scene pretty much straight ripped out of saving private Ryan? The commander goes down, there is a loud buzzing noise because of the explosion, and there is a guy walking around without his arm in the background. First few minutes if saving private Ryan has the exact same scene
