Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One has no ads on the home screen (still has content promotion)

Copy and pasted from NeoGaf

Seems like the time of endless McDonald's wraps on a loop is almost over.

Q: Will there be advertisements built into the dashboard like Xbox 360? How many?

A: We designed the Xbox One dashboard to make your favorite games and entertainment even more front and center. Advertisements will not be visible on the home screen, so you only see what’s most important to you.

That's great.

That's ridiculous, what scumbags, how dare they......wait.... no ads? That's cool I guess but I'll complain about how they are on 360 instead.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

For now.

Microsoft really pushed advertisements with the 360 and likely made a lot of money doing it. They'll go back to it when the time is right.

Makes sense to have a more targeted ad system on the other screens instead. Only advertise games on the game screen and suchlike. A cynic might say that the recommendations are thinly disguised ads that still appear on the home screen anyway.

I reckon you are right, the 360 certainly didn't start with adverts

I really hate the adverts, I can accept advertising for things on the store though I would like to be able to customise what I see on my home screen.

This should not be a surprise, this should be a given

Fantastic. I dislike ads anywhere.

Content promotion = ad.

Recommending you to buy a Rihanna album is no different than recommending you to buy a Big Mac.

...what is the difference between an ad and "content promotion"?

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

content promotion seems very very similar to traditional ads imo..
