Forums - Microsoft Discussion - There Was A 'Severe Culture Clash' Between Microsoft And Rare

I found some interesting news about Rare after M$'s purchase of it. IMO They would have been better off with nintendo. This is M$ again ruining the gaming industry one dev. at a time to push their agenda for being in the center of your living room.

"Phil Tossell, a former Rare developer who's now working on Wii U-bound indie title Tengami, has spoken about the 'severe culture clash' when Microsoft bought Rare.

The insight is part of an interview with NintendoEnthusiast about Tengami, when Tossell was

"I think most of the people who worked at Rare at the time were Nintendo fans and we loved working closely with Nintendo. Rare was also a close knit family and so it was something of a shock to suddenly become part of such a huge organisation as Microsoft. There was a severe culture clash which perhaps didn’t become apparent at first as Microsoft mostly allowed us to continue as we had always done.

"However as time passed and there were staff changes at MGS, together with Tim and Chris (Stamper) leaving, the culture changed and it began to feel more Microsoft and less Rare. While Rare continues to put out high quality games, for me it lost some of the spark that had made the company special."

However, Tossell does end his observations by noting Rare seems to be on the upward curve again.

"I think at the moment the company is going through something of a rebirth as there are lots of new people and most of the old staff have left, so I’m excited to see what they do next. Whatever Rare does it will always hold a special place for me."

Tossell is now at Nyamyam, a studio comprised of three former Rare developers, and Tengami certainly looks interesting - read the full interview over at NintendoEnthusiastto find out more about the title."

Rare ruined comfirmed lol. Oh well, I hope KI is not as horrible as what's being said.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Please give Nintendo the Banjo IP before you bury the franchise alive Microsoft.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

I think I have asked this before. So Microsoft owns Banjo, Perfect dark, Diddy kong, and Jet force...and conker?

No matter what, we will never see these guys on Nintendo again? Too bad, Jet Force was a great action/Adventure game that would really help the wii u out. Perfect Dark as well.

Bananaking was right, I was wrong. Like he always is. About the 3DS not selling at least 19.999 million in 2013...

Don't worry. Double Helix is developing Killer Instinct, not Rare.

Kameo and Viva Pinata are both great games.  Kinect Sports also turned out to be great.  Im hoping KS3 has controller support as well though and not only Kinect. Personally Im excited to see what else Rare is working on. Co-development with Killer Insinct and they have a 3rd game that we are still waiting on. Very curious to what it is.

I liked all of them. I wish they would  come out with another Conker

Im not familiar with there work. But from the sounds of your first sentence it sounds like your trying to say Microsoft is doing an EA.

I loved Conker Live & Reloaded for the original Xbox XD One of my all time fav games.

@Think-Man -  No.  NYCrisis is just known to bash MSFT and tries too hard.

I didn't know that alot of the OG's left Rare. I thought it was just Chris and Tim

Glad to hear that some of the other devs from Rare left and started new companies
