Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What Will Happen If My 3DS Breaks/Is Lost!? <(T_T<)

I was hanging out with my friend the other day and we wanted to play some MK7. I have 2 SD cards (the original and a newer, bigger one I got later), both with the game downloaded on it. I put in the original/old SD card into my friends 3DS, but the game didn't show up. I figured this must be how they keep people from downloading digital games onto a bunch of SD cards that they can give away/sell. That's pretty clever, for them, but for me it only causes worry. I have downloaded quite a few games onto my 3DS, so I have to wonder what will happen to them all in the unlikely event my 3DS is broken or lost. So, what does happen? I'd hate to think you'd have to buy all those games again. D:

I suggest registering your 3DS on Club Nintendo after its warranty ends to extend it for 90 days and register the games too as proof of purchase.

You can re-download any game you've purchased.

Contact Nintendo if you can't re-establish your Nintendo account on a new 3DS.

Isnt there an account or something to act as proof that you own the game and can redownload it?

I mean I'm sure people dont just buy the games digitally and then keep them there....or you can only download it once?

(Would like to know this as well since I am planning to get a 3DS soon).

You're asking me this lol?

You can download as many times as you want once purchased.

Nice try.

How would you go about doing that in the first place, re-establishing your account on a new 3DS I mean?

I thought you couldn't register downloaded games?

There's a transfer software on the 3DS if you change 3DS'.  If you change SD cards, all you need to do is transfer the data from SD card to SD card.

If your 3DS breaks or gets lost, as long as you have all the proper information/stuff, you will most likely be able to recover everything.  Having just the SD card wont be enough.  Eventually Nintendo is going to implement the integrated Nintendo Network ID stuff so you may have to wait some time before you can feel completely safe from bad news.

Nintendo may be late to the party, but they are coming around.

Looks like you may not be able to directly re-establish the account but you can try reconnecting your Club Nintendo account which may help.

If you really want to cover your butt, go to the Account History settings in the eShop and write down all the details (everything found in the View Receipt section).  This will verify absolute ownership and Nintendo will help you re-download those games.

As noted by MDMAlliance, the Nintendo Network ID system is coming to the 3DS which will make this situation much easier to deal with.
