Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox One exec says Sony PS4 tech specs are "meaningless", games more important

The company with the lower specs is saying that specs are meaningless? Weird.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

I dont know, i mean if you look at PS2/Wii specs really didn't matter to gamers... *BUT* they also had a massive difference either in cost or terms of games compared to their competitors.

Specs I think matter more to people (initial buyers) when you have two machines that will have mostly the same 3rd party games. It's one of the differentiators - of course we have first party games as well obviously, but its one of the things people think about. Especially when people hear about machines being not very powerful and more expensive (wii-u).

I think over time the Specs issue will become less of an issue as price comes down, but initially its a bigger issue than he is making out.

LOL They seem to forget are games are Nintendo's forte.

Fixed

People actually buy Nintendo consoles primarily for their 1st party games.

Sony relies heavily on 3rd parties.

Sony has more new IP's than both Nintendo and Microsoft. What are you talking about? Gamestop even made an article about it a couple years back. They are more heavily involved in pumping out new IPs. Your bias knows no bounds. MS is just starting to properly invest in first party, while Sony has had great first party for years but was forced by Microsoft invest twice as heavily into it in their third generation.

LOL I see what you did there...

But yeah. I could believe this argument from Nintendo, as they've built the Wii and pretty much all of their handhelds around that premise. MS saying it just sounds like damage control. I doubt they'd be trying to downplay specs if people were saying Sony's console was weaker.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

:D

Wow no shit Sherlock!! Who would have thought, thats changing my whole world. I am tired of this argument. Is he really thinking that their showing was the best in history in videogaming? I mean the best game they have showed was not even a real exclusive it is also avaible on PC and might come to PS4 as well. I mean he is right but if the 1st party exclusives from both manufacuters suck then it all comes down to 3rd party games. And then specs start to matter.

And most flop or have modest sales. Not that who has the most IPs matters.

Nintendo dominates in is software sales. The 360 has also moved more 1st party software than Sony.

Thats great. Sony has far more successes than Microsoft in first party IP's and might not sell as much as Nintendo from but they take risks which Nintendo hasnt done with a new character since Pikmin.

Good for Sony. But not relevant.

I made my point and now you're babbling.

Not at all, you're just skirting your way around the truth.

I agree... I really don't care about the difference in power between one and ps4. For me it's all about the games and right now the One's exclusives are better in my opinion. infamous is not good enough for me to buy a ps4 in 2014. Do people really think the 50% difference in power will make the ps4 a revolutionary machine? the graphics look the same for me in both consoles so far.
