BW didn't have Einstein level of depth, but it was clear that new meta's came from it, that resulted in user forced complexity, so if I couldn't keep up with what a Korean player had invented via their own meta, I'd simply be aced each and every time. That is primarily why you'll never see me playing SC I, SCI remaster and SCII PVP.

There is more depth in Brood Wars than StarCraft 2 in my opinion.
I.E. Units hidden under a doodad or on the high ground had various advantages, like enemy ranged units having a chance to miss their attack.

StarCraft 2 I feel you just build up a death ball and hope for the best... And I think that has impacted the game long term.
Allot of the micro-managing has also been removed in StarCraft 2 as well, which for more casual people is great, but it reduces the amount of errors people can potentially make in a match.

I'd love to see some new city building titles. Kingdoms & Castles has me thirsting for some city building games, but with added military options, like building a city and defending it.

I would be keen for that. RTS is my favorite genre.
I wouldn't mind a Battlezone 2 remake or sequel. First person RTS is actually fun when done right.

For what it was worth, there was, but that ended up surfacing thanks to higher levels of play, not simply something a lamen could discover without any kind of assistance.

I also remember C&C units in Tiberian Sun/Firestorm having height advantages, as well as concealment behind terrain/objects.

From what I've seen over the past 8 years of SCII, it depends on your general strat, and what you do to counter your foe's strats. A deathball doesn't always work in high levels of play. In low levels it can, the same goes for "cheese" builds as well, especially the six pool rushes and other rush strats from the other two factions.

SCII had some removement of micro management, yet we still saw micro management in high levels of play, especially with Koreans going fof against teams around the world. I have seen the insane high APM clicks and speed videos within the past 7 years.

I don't think that introducing micro misclicks is an objectively good thing to have in any kind of game tbh. Making it a must have training skill just seems forced by one particular hardcore group.

RTS is my absolute favorite, but these days I've only had a tiny handful of good ones to choose from. I'm still waiting on something on the scale of C&C and Supreme Commander, as well as the new AoE IV (hopefully not consolized).

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

That would be a substantial downgrade from my 7+ year old PC. Haha

I'm not saying that StarCraft 2 didn't have significant micro management, especially in high levels of play... Marine splitting for example when you are being bombed by banelings is one such instance. MarineKing was a master at it.

I just felt StarCraft 2 just didn't have some of the "little" things that StarCraft 1 had... Which meant it's long lasting appeal didn't sit with me.

You can now gift PC games on the Microsoft Store
https://www.pcgamer.com/you-can-now-gift-pc-games-on-the-microsoft-store/
Nobody likes needing to use the Microsoft Store. It’s counter-intuitive, fiddly and it manages to make the simple act of downloading and playing a game a needless hassle. It’s just a bad experience. However! Microsoft has made one step in the right direction, allowing PC users to finally gift digital games and DLC.

Yesterday and today, Bethesda tweeted some really interesting images, hinting towards a RAGE 2 reveal on May 14th. These tweets are coming after Walmart’s leak which – given the fact that Bethesda’s Pete Hines was a bit angry about it – appears to be legit, at least for RAGE 2.

Friday news part two, and last of the week:

Civ 6 spring update tweaks Joint Wars, adds 12 Historic Moments
https://www.pcgamer.com/civ-6-spring-update-tweaks-joint-wars-adds-12-historic-moments/
Besides Victoria's England-strengthening Pax Britannica leader bonus, Civilization 6 now lets players call for help mid-battle.
As part of the turn-based 4X 'em up's spring update, new diplomacy tinkerings to Joint and Third Party War means players can now ask others—be that pals, strangers or AI—to join battles they're already engaged in.

Procedurally generated puzzler Subaeria brings its stealth hacking to Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/procedurally-generated-puzzler-subaeria-brings-its-stealth-hacking-to-steam/
Subaeria is a puzzle-platformer built around roguelike elements like permadeath and procedural generation, and it's finally officially out on Steam. I say finally because we first wrote about Subaeria in October 2014 and I say officially because it entered Early Access nearly a year later in September 2015. Suffice it to say, Subaeria's been a long time coming. To celebrate its full launch, it's $11 (15 percent off) through Wednesday, May 16.

Stock up on indies in Devolver Digital's weekend Steam sale
https://www.pcgamer.com/stock-up-on-indies-in-devolver-digitals-weekend-steam-sale/
Indie connoisseur Devolver Digital is holding a massive sale on Steam this weekend. Dozens of the publisher's best games are up to 90 percent off through Monday, May 14. I've highlighted some of the best deals below, and you can browse the full catalog here.

Unleash is a multiplayer tower defense game inspired by a Warcraft 3 mod
https://www.pcgamer.com/unleashed-is-a-multiplayer-tower-defense-game-inspired-by-a-warcraft-3-mod/
The folks at DeSync Studios liked the Line Tower Wars mod in Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne so much that they made a game based on it. That's not all their new tower defense game, Unleash, has to offer, but for my money it's the most promising bit.

APB Reloaded has a new owner with big plans for the future
https://www.pcgamer.com/apb-reloaded-has-a-new-owner-with-big-plans-for-the-future/
Game publisher Little Orbit, which took over the Kickstarter train wreck Unsung Story last summer, announced today that it has acquired GamersFirst, the parent company of Reloaded Productions, and all the games it owns. CEO Matthew Scott acknowledged that APB Reloaded needs a lot of work, but promised regular communication with players as that work progresses. "Good, bad, or ugly, I will share where we are at," he wrote.

Overkill's The Walking Dead trailer introduces grandfather with a gun
https://www.pcgamer.com/overkills-the-walking-dead-trailer-introduces-the-grandfather-with-a-gun/
A new cinematic for Overkill's The Walking Dead introduces the game's third survivor, Grant, a kindly grandfather-type with a penchant for storytelling who appears to be on a quest to reconnect with his granddaughter. You will no doubt be shocked—shocked—to hear that it is absolutely bleak as hell.

Bungie details Destiny 2: Warmind issues, first hotfix slated for next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/bungie-details-destiny-2-warmind-issues-first-hotfix-slated-for-next-week/
Destiny 2: Warmind went live earlier this week, sending Guardians off to Mars to clear up a beef between an old machine and an ancient god. (...)I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet but I like what I see so far, and the rollout seemed to go pretty well—but not entirely without trouble.
Bungie said in the latest episode of This Week at Bungie that the following issues have been confirmed, and are being worked on.

This week's Sea of Thieves update is now due out next week, along with DLC details
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-weeks-sea-of-thieves-update-is-now-due-out-next-week-along-with-dlc-details/
This week’s Sea of Thieves developer update video was an apologetic one, starting with executive producer Joe Neate breaking the news that the planned update that Rare was hoping to release by the end of the week had to be postponed. The delay is due to a bug that affected some PC players during internal testing. The update will be out next week instead.

Thanos has been hit with more buffs and nerfs in Fortnite
https://www.pcgamer.com/thanos-has-been-hit-with-more-buffs-and-nerfs-in-fortnite/
Thanos, who’s doing a stint as a Fortnite character, presumably after being defeated by the Avengers and forced to look for new work, has been tweaked again. His health was buffed and damaged reduced previously, but now the opposite is happening. If superheroes had the ability to make these tweaks, they probably wouldn’t need so many movies. A few punches could save the universe.

>>I've added the spoiler part for those that still haven't seen the movie, something that the article author didn't bother doing...

Worlds Adrift early access trailer shows off more airship shenanigans
https://www.pcgamer.com/worlds-adrift-early-access-trailer-shows-off-more-airship-shenanigans/
Worlds Adrift, the airships and grappling hook sandbox, is due to launch on Steam Early Access next week after several testing phases, so of course it’s time for a new trailer. Watch it, and listen to the dodgy voice acting.

Let's list now the GOG and Steam deals for the weekend:

+GOG

+Steam
Besides the Devolver Digital sale, there are other interesting deals for us

And that's it. I hope you have a happy and gaming weekend.
