I'm wondering if that would even work in my current PC as well as other options. I wouldn't buy an AMD anyway, I've literally heard nothing but bad things about their GPUs |
Their GPU's are fine, the real problem is their price.
But if you can find an AMD GPU that offers more performance for the same/lower price, I wouldn't think twice about it.

Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.20 GHz (4 CPUs) 6GB RAM Nvidia GeForce GT 340 And I'm mostly thinking about upgrading to a GTX 1050 Ti at the moment. Good idea, or is there a better (but not more expensive) option? |
Your CPU is getting long in the tooth as it's a 2010 Nahelem based chip, but still fairly capable.
But a GPU upgrade over that blatantly archaic Geforce GT 340 (Aka. Rebadged Geforce 240) would make a world of difference.
A Geforce 1050Ti is a good card.
If you want a card around the same performance level... A Radeon 560 is a good choice.
If you find a Radeon 470/570/Geforce 1060 3GB for the same/cheaper price, jump on it.
A Geforce 1030 is a good cheap compromise, it's a potent 720P card... And will even handle 1080P gaming with visuals on low.
Low-End GPU's are not the same as they used to be as they aren't being bundled with low clocked DDR3 memory anymore.

That is DVI and adapters exist.
DVI is disappearing on GPU's though.
