The PC enthusiast circles are in complete freaking meltdown right now with the Meltdown and Spectre exploits of CPU's.

There are actually three attack vectors.
And AMD is immune to them all except one Spectre attack vector.

Some posts from Linux guru's like Linus Torvalds and Tom Lendacky.

^^^ I've skimmed the article on Anand yesterday, it seemed like a big thing...no idea what they do really, except they are mostly local (though it seems they managed to demonstrate some remote attack via browser) and can get you deeper access on system you already have limited access to.

I'm gonna wait until someone has actually written a useful exploit for it before I start caring.

It's also a great example of how certain individuals on this forum dropped the ball on this. No threads yet proclaiming that PC is dead. Guess we'll have to wait a few days until this news reaches mainstream. Can't wait for major news outlets and their readers completely misinterpreting each and every bit of information we have.

I guess that was their open invitation to hackers. We should've seen this sooner.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Those exploits are worrying, but I'm more worried by the fact that I read the MSoft had launched a patch, and when I checked Windows Update I found it's not working.

Now I'll have to find out what's happened and how to fix it :-/.

I think for now it's best to not install any patches relating to this at all. It's a very deep change and nobody knows what things will be completely fucked up by this.

Oh, it's not that I was going to install any update. It was a simple impulse to check it was working when time comes and I need to use it.

And I agree that it's better to wait. The patches they launch now may be hurried up and cause more damage than good.

Even the final patches might be much worse than without. I have not yet heard any concrete information about actual risk for end consumers so as far as I'm concerned all this shit is just hot air that will just fuck up everything for no reason.
