When I saw it, I knew I couldn't let it escape.

Could say, you sold your friends to the "other side" =P.

I haven't seen any good UK deals to go for yet, besides a keyboard, but I'm actually thinking of going for a left handed palm keyboard. I saw one years ago in a local electronics store during my college years, but I thought it was goofy looking and silly. Fast forward to today and I'm actually wanting one since the idea of having a palm based keyboard sounds like the ideal method for my FPS games.

Like this Razer one, only not in the £100's lol.

*image*

I'm going to go see if I can find one for at least £60.

While I like AMD more than Nvidia (I think it's a Spanish trait, we tend to root for the underdog), I'm always open to all the options when it comes to spending money. And given that my top priorities are Price & Price/performance, that's what I use to pick my new gear. It just happened that thanks to the Black Friday sales, that GTX 1070 turned out to be the better deal.

Besides, I have two reasons that make a GTX 1070 a better purchase:

1) While the RX 480/GTX 1060 are very good cards, they aren't powerful enough to run all current games at 1080p/60fps with all the bells and whistles. Sure, the games that need more power are few, but if I can get a better card that can do it (at least with all the games bar a few that you can count with one hand), why not going for it if you can?

2) This is a weird reason, but here it goes: I have the personal theory/crazy idea that, given the apparently success of PS4Pro (we still don't know if Scorpio will face the same luck), Sony will adopt the strategy of launching updated models every 3/4 years while moving the min specs along instead of launching new completely consoles. By that theory, Sony will launch a new console in 3 or 4 years that will be an upgraded Pro (Ultra?), rather than a fully fledged PS5, and they will no longer require the games to run on the original PS4 (that by then will be 6/7 years old, enough to be replaced). That will make the Pro the new baseline for hardware, and that console has an RX480 inside.

Following that theory, and because I want my gaming gear to last as much as possible, a GTX 1070 turns out to be also a better choice for me.

If all of this sounds like an elaborated excuse, it's not me, it's you .

Well, this was fucking scary. Last night just before bed I wanted to check something on my PC. I switched on my other 2 monitors and saw graphic issues one my gaming monitor. While trying to check and fix it my PC completely crashed. When I rebooted it Windows refused to load.
The scary part was that it didn't even try to load Windows. It shows the windows logo without the loading animation and then just does nothing. I had this issue before but back then a simple reboot helped, but not this time.
But now the really scary part. As any savvy user would do I used a Win 10 boot stick to either recover the system or to just reinstall it. But I got the exact same issue while trying to boot from USB. After that I tried using Hiren's Boot USB. Couldn't load either. I was basically completely locked out of my PC.
What in the end fixed the issue was switching to my replacement GPU and back. Now it runs as if nothing ever happened.

I swear, My GPU, its driver, Windows 10 and my monitors fucking hate each other.

Could you even sleep after that?

O told you when you had your first troubles, your build is cursed.

Ok, grab all the salt you can because here comes some AMD leaks/Rumors from WCCFTech:

The first ones is about the naming of the chips

AMD Zen Summit Ridge Processors To Be Branded As SR7, SR5, SR3 – Pricing Starts at $200 US, Enthusiast SR7 CPUs For X370 Arriving in Early 2017
http://wccftech.com/amd-zen-summit-ridge-prices-details-leaked/

We have all heard of Intel Core i series of processors. The Core i series of desktop processors are divided into three tiers. The top-end are issued the Core i7 branding, the performance optimized variants are issued the i5 branding and the entry level models are issued the Core i3 branding. AMD is planning to follow a similar name scheme as revealed in a leaked roadmap.
First up, we know for sure that AMD Zen processors will be launching in early 2017. The first processors to launch in the Zen Summit Ridge lineup would use the Zen SR7 branding. These are the top-end processors which will be selling at enthusiast level prices. The Zen SR5 and Zen SR3 will be the more price optimized CPUs with pricing close to $200-$300 US.

The second leak/rumor is about when they will launch

AMD Zen Summit Ridge Processors Rumored For 17th January Launch – Performance on Par With Core i7-6850K at $250-$300 US Pricing
http://wccftech.com/amd-zen-summit-ridge-17th-january-launch-rumor/

The rumor alleges that AMD is going to launch Summit Ridge processors on 17th January 2017. The January launch inclines with AMD’s claim of a Q1 2017 launch for Zen based enthusiast chips. However, there’s also a mention of March release of new processors so that may indicate launch of more SKUs. We know that the first SKUs will be aimed at HEDT (High-End Desktop), Enthusiast users so more budget oriented chips will arrive later.

And finally, the last one, that talks about pricing

AMD Zen 8 Core SR7 Flagship To Sell For $499, Boost To 3.5Ghz & Outperform Intel’s $999 i7 5960X
http://wccftech.com/amd-zen-8-core-35ghz-cpu-spotted/

According to a fresh leak, AMD’s upcoming Zen SR7 8 core flagship CPU will allegedly sell for $499 and outperform Intel’s 8 core i7 5960X. Engineering samples of AMD’s latest Zen revision have been spotted and they feature a 3.2Ghz core clock and a 3.5Ghz turbo frequency. A considerable improvement over the previous revision which ran at more modest 2.8Ghz core & 3.2Ghz turbo clocks.

According to leaks originating from China, the highest end part will carry a surprisingly restrained MSRP of $499, rather than the $1000+ MSRPs we’ve seen with Intel’s extreme edition i7s. Nevertheless, this $499 part is purported to favorably compete with Intel’s $1199  eight core i7 6900K and $999 i7 5960X CPUs.

I wonder if Zen will have Hyperthreading.

Yes it does.

If you look at the second last image from my post, or the table, you'll see that there's a section that features cores/threads. The SR7 chips have 8 cores/16 threads, the SR5 has 6/12 and the SR3 4/8.

You don't pay attention to my posts .

Only if it's something boring like Zen.

Well, it can't be that boring if you make questions about it.

I definitely agree with that.

But you're already on this thread, you no longer need to "tag" it.

So I installed my 850 Evo on my Desktop yesterday and just damn, I didn't realize how terribly it was configured. My hard drives were apparently running in legacy IDE/Sata mode so I had to reinstall windows to make the SSD run in AHCI mode. And then there were also other stuff like how it was running with the old arse MBR instead of using GPT.

And of course, it was a struggle to even physically install it. These days, everything is tool-less but when I got my antec 900, you still needed a screw driver and Jesus it was not meant for SSDs. The struggle was real!!!

All in all, it was a much needed massive improvement! And the struggle was 110% worth it.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Is it your first SSD? If not, do you really notice the extra speed compared to your old drive?
