Just woke up about an hr ago and downloaded the Overwatch Beta, feels like being a kid at Christmas =P.

You'll have to tell us your impressions of the game Beta.

This is one of those times I wish my island had decent upload because I would love to stream and show how it's going. So far I'm having a blast, though some support Heroes like Symmetra don't feel like they contribute much besides her Teleport ult, her main weapon doesn't really do or feel like it does much damage and even the AI are great at taking out her turrets before they do much damage. Heroes like Tracer,Reinhardt, Pharah and Bastion tend to feel like they do quite the damage, I especially love Reinhardt's charge ability to stun foes and follow up with a hammer blast and a few swings.

All in all so far I can say that my expectations were met and I can see myself playing this like I did during my TF2 days, definitely will be playing this over the new DOOM, though my one gripe from the entire game are the visual assets that look pretty blocky up closed, the characters practically being the higher end models while everything else kind of reminds of of TF2 though a bit smudgier to boot (running everything on Ultra as well).

Thanks for sharing it.

I'm sure the support Heroes will fare better once the game launches. As for the graphics, maybe they don't want them very taxing, to be able to reach as many users as they can.

We have one good news for Nvidia, one for AMD and another one that's just informing.

NVIDIA & Samsung Settle All Patent Infringement Disputes

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10290/nvidia-samsung-settle-all-patent-infringement-disputes

Roughly a year and a half ago, NVIDIA opened up a patent infringement case against Samsung and Qualcomm, claiming that the various GPUs used by the two firms violated various NVIDIA patents. In response, Samsung opened up their own counter-suit, claiming that NVIIDA and its partners were violating Samsung patents. Since then, things have not progressed well for NVIDIA, with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruling that Samsung’s GPUs don’t infringe on NVIDIA’s patents, while also ruling that NVIDIA’s GPUs did infringe on Samsung’s patents.

Now with the final ruling on Samsung’s counter-suit originally scheduled for today, NVIDIA has announced that they have buried the hatchet with Samsung, ending all litigation between the companies. In their announcement, NVIDIA notes that both companies have ended their suits with the US courts, US ITC, and the US Patent office, effective immediately. In turn, both companies have agreed to cross-license “a small number of patents by each company to the other,” while noting that this is not a broad cross-licensing agreement. All other terms of the deal – such as any potential payments – are not being disclosed.

AMD is Finally Fabless, Dead Certain to Secure a Profit in Q2 2016

http://vrworld.com/2016/05/02/amd-dead-certain-secure-profit-q2-2016/

When Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced its first quarter 2016 results, the company executives stated that they’re on track towards return to profitability in the second quarter of this year. In Q1 2016, the company suffered a $109 million loss on $832 million revenue, during a silent quarter stifled with the lack of orders (post-holiday blues in the West meets Lunar New Year two-week slowdown).

(...)

The “New AMD” now has all but guaranteed profit i.e. net income in the current, second quarter 2016. As we reported, AMD 3.0 strategy is being executed by Dr. Lisa Su and Raja Koduri. AMD is going to continue as a business development organization being led by Lisa, while Raja will push the creation of new products and technologies with the Radeon Technologies Group. Even though the name is RTG, Radeon Technologies Group also takes care of the microprocessor lineup. While AMD / RTG haven’t disclosed the workforce split, AMD / RTG is evolving into a lean operation with clearly split roles, a move which can only benefit the company.

Maybe that's why AMD shares gained so much value.

AMDGaming has talks about Battlefield 5 and links its page, with a countdown that ends three hours after the Nvidia event.

I don't think AMD will show anything new during the Battlefield reveal, but it should put an end to some rumors that linked both Nvidia and Battlefield together.

I really want to get into the next Battlefield, though I'm not really fond of insane pricing for an MP based shooter with a season pass lobbed on, that and having either AMD/Nvidia screwing up the game with some deal.

These screenshots will give you an idea of the visual enhancements that Infinity Ward has implemented in this classic shooter.

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE REMASTER WILL NOT BE SOLD STANDALONE

http://www.pcgamer.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-remaster-will-not-be-sold-standalone/

Like the well-oiled machine it is, Activision today unveiled this year’s instalment of Call of Duty amid an explosion of adjectives and hyperbole. Infinite Warfare will take the dependable shooting game to space this year, and apparently you’ll be able to fly spacecraft as well. Still, that’s not what most people are excited about: a remaster of the original Modern Warfare game has arguably attracted more interest, but it looks like you’ll need to purchase Infinite Warfare to get access to the remake.

>>That's what they say now. But you don't remake a game to bundle it with your newest game.

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT FREE TRIAL BEGINS ON MAY 4

http://www.pcgamer.com/star-wars-battlefront-free-trial-begins-on-may-4/

May 4 is coming, and if you say it out loud—“May the fourth”—you will will realize, in a sudden burst of clarity leavened with an internal chuckle at the wonderful cleverness of the modern marketing, that it is Star Wars Day. And at 11 am PT on that day, you will be given the opportunity to leap into Star Wars Battlefront and play it for free, for four hours.

We’re not really sure what to make of this, so we’ll file it under the ‘Things that make you go hmm’ category for the time being.

INSOMNIA HAS A NEW, PLAYABLE PROLOGUE CHAPTER AND KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN

It’s been two years since Andy wrote about InSomnia, the creepy “dieselpunk” RPG set on a floating, intergalactic space colony. The concept remains as appealing as ever, except Mono Studio needs a bit more money to get it finished. You may remember they raised around $90,000 back in 2014 (in addition to their own funding), but now they need another £50,000 to keep going.

OVERWATCH OPEN BETA WON'T HAVE COMPETITIVE PLAY

http://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-open-beta-wont-have-competitive-play/

If you're into the early access portion of the Overwatch open beta, you've likely noticed that competitive play is not currently available. The reason, Game Director Jeff Kaplan revealed in the Overwatch forum, is that Blizzard has decided to overhaul it entirely—and it won't be back until sometime after the game launches.

http://www.pcgamer.com/dishonored-2-voice-cast-features-vincent-donofrio-rosario-dawson-and-an-old-thief/

The Dishonored 2 voice cast has been revealed over on GameSpot, and I think you'll agree that it's solid. The lineup for the sequel to Arkane's hit stealthpunk game will include Vincent D'Onofrio, Rosario Dawson, and Pedro Pascal, and the previously-silent protagonist Corvo Attano will now have a voice of his own, too, courtesy of the guy we used to call Garrett.

STAR WARS: SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE DEBUTS ON GOG

http://www.pcgamer.com/star-wars-shadows-of-the-empire-debuts-on-gog/

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire was originally released in 1996 for the Nintendo 64, followed by a Windows version a year later. It didn't make a huge splash, critically or commercially, but Samuel liked it enough to include it in his list from last month of old Star Wars games that need to be on modern PCs. And it looks like maybe somebody was listening.

>>Coincidentally, and also because of the May 4th thing, there's a Star Wars sale on GOG and another one on Steam.

WASTELAND 2 DEVS ISSUE C&D LETTER TO ALIEN WASTELAND STUDIO

http://www.pcgamer.com/wasteland-2-devs-issue-cd-letter-to-alien-wasteland-studio/

Alien Wasteland was a low-budget FPS which invited players to “battle (their) way through hordes of aliens from canyon deserts to tropical islands”. Developed by one man studio Dan Games, it sells for around $4.99 and has done so since it released in June last year. Alas, as of yesterday Alien Wasteland is no more: it’s now known as the slightly less elegant Action Alien.

TIM SWEENEY RENEWS ATTACK ON MICROSOFT'S UWP

http://www.pcgamer.com/tim-sweeney-renews-attack-on-microsofts-uwp/

Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney has not been subtle in his denunciation of Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform, famously describing it as an attempt to create a “Microsoft-controlled distribution and commerce monopoly”. Despite Microsoft’s attempts to allay fears at its //Build/ conference last month, Sweeney still isn’t having a bar of the initiative.

VALVE TINKERS WITH STEAM USER REVIEWS

http://www.pcgamer.com/valve-tinkers-with-steam-user-reviews/

Valve has shaken up Steam user reviews to better reflect how a game plays in its present state.

In isolation, Steam reviews are uniquely baffling, but en masse they give a decent idea of quality (or how badly the developer has upset the internet). Trouble is, an aggregate score born of release-day fury is hard to change as the game is patched up. Some might call that deserved; Valve disagrees.

DANGEROUS GOLF TRAILER IS A HEALTH AND SAFETY NIGHTMARE

http://www.pcgamer.com/dangerous-golf-trailer-is-a-health-and-safety-nightmare/

FALLOUT 4: FAR HARBOR TRAILER RELEASED

http://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-4-far-harbor-trailer-released/

At last, the big one is almost upon us: Far Harbor, the full-size expansion for Fallout 4. Bumper size, even—Bethesda says that Far Harbor has the largest landmass of any Bethesda add-on ever. That makes it a welcome change from the light fluff of Automatron and the wholly skippable Wasteland Workshop. More content does mean more cash however, and if you don't own the season pass, Far Harbor will cost you £20.

TITANFALL DEVELOPER RESPAWN IS WORKING ON A NEW STAR WARS GAME

http://www.pcgamer.com/titanfall-developer-respawn-is-working-on-a-new-star-wars-game/

Electronic Arts has announced that Titanfall studio Respawn Entertainment is working on a new third-person action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. Details beyond that haven't been revealed, but Respawn's Stig Asmussen, who's leading the project, promised to “pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times.”
