Minesweeper? That's how they promote PC gaming? lol

Lol minesweeper.

I'm anxious to see what will be announced or showcased.

At least one great announcement will be enough.

AMD will reveal it's 3xx series of cards, and probably also Fiji.

The rest will come from the publishers. Maybe we'll get the first gameplay of X-Com 2, given that it's PC only.

Ahhh

Didnt SE say they will have somewhat of a presence? Maybe they'll announce Rise of the Tomb Raider for PC lol.

Yes, S-E is included in the list of participants of the show

But with S-E, they could announce anythng, from Tomb Raider, to FF XV coming to PC to show a new Hitman game, etc.

I think they'll more than likely showcase a bit of LR FFXIII and officially annouce FFType-0 HD.

We'll see in 4 days .

12 hours until the PC Gaming Show starts.

I don't know if I'll be able to watch it, but I hope some of you post the important news here or make a thread about it.

Missed it, but here is a basic summary:
*Killer Instinct will be ported to PC
*Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
*Ion
*Tanoa, a new expansion area for Arma III
*Planet Coaster
*Whispers of Oblivion, three-mission prologue for Starcraft 2 that will bridge the gap between the "Heart of the Swarm" expansion and the upcoming "Legacy of the Void."
*Heroes of the Storm expansion Eternal Conflict, focus on Diablo characters
*No Man's Sky will be coming to PC the same day as the PS4

Edit: You can watch the replay here.

Thanks for the summary and the link. I also missed it.

I gives the impression of being a little lackluster.

Edit: Ok, mpw that I've seen it (thanks Rhonin for linking to the moment it starts), I can say that it was different that I thought, but in a good way. It's nothing like the other E3 conferences, more paused like if it was a late night show minus the funny parts, and I liked the interaction with the crowd. My only "but" is that it's too long.

Also, maybe I'm too paranoid but, with AMD being one of the most visible brands of the show and with another show being almost confirmed for next year, am I the only one who fears Nvidia might try to counter it another show/conference/event of their own next year? Because that would be a real shame. They should join and make an even bigger PC Show.

I don't know if this is the right place for this but with Fallout 4 coming, I guess it's time to upgrade from my HD7850/Phenom 940.

I don't give a darn about ultra high so I'm looking sub-$800. Looks like I can save money going with an AMD processor, perhaps an 8350, but has AMD overcome their multi-core problems? Is DX12 going to help with that? Last time I did any reading on the subject, i5's were killing AMD's comparable 8-core offerings, as many games weren't using them well.

I'm leaning toward going a bit cheap on the processor, anyway, as I've found they can manage quite well under "recommended" as long as the video card is solid.

Any advice is appreciated, as I haven't been paying attention to the PC parts scene for quite awhile.

@pokoko: DX12 will solve the problem AMD has with multi-core scaling, but if I'm not mistaken, only for DX12 titles. Current DX9, 10 and 11 titles won't benefit from it.

About the processor, I know it costs a bit more, but I'd go with an Intel i5 because not all the games scale well and Intel has an advantage here. Something like the i5-4570 would be enough unless you want to overclock.

As for which card to go, for AMD I'd try to get an R9 280X or, if you're lucky, a cheap R9 290 before they get phased out. The new 3xx series are rebrands with a higher price. For Nvidia the best spot is the GTX 970 because the 960 is a bit too slow for its price. You could try to find a 4GB version of the GTX 770 too, because they are faster than a 960 and cost about the same.

Besides that, you can skimp a little on the motherboard, even the cheaper ones are more than good enough (again, if you don't plan to overclock) and case. Get a good power supply of at least 500W and I'd recommend to get at least 8GB of RAM.

To give you an idea of how new games run, Techspot is a good place becaue they do benchmarks with not only different videocards but also different CPUs. I'll link their reviews for GTA V and The Witcher 3 because those are the most demanding titles right now.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Honestly, I really want an i5.  Then I won't have to worry that much about how my processor works with this game as opposed to that game.  There have been too many games that have performed worse than they should have on AMD processors.

Time to hit Newegg.
