Steam Gifts rules have been changed to protect you from swindlers

Comments5

Steam Gifts is a perfectly lovely way to trade with other Steam users, until it goes horribly wrong. A situation that’s been under scrutiny from Valve lately is where you make a trade for a game, only to have that game revoked from your library because the person you traded with has had their payment declined for the game. For shady types on this internet, this kind of action can lead to profit. But Valve are on the case and have changed the rulebook.

From now on, games in your inventory that have been set aside for trading can only be traded 30 days after purchase.

Far Cry 4’s director given go-ahead by Ubisoft for a personal project

Comment

The last year has seen Ubisoft kick out some unusual games, from the absurdity-loving 80s homage Far Cry: Blood Dragon to the tear-inducing Valiant Hearts. They’re all personal labours of love for small teams, and it looks like the next unique project from Ubisoft may be coming from Far Cry 4’s creative director Alex Hutchinson.

Along with members from the Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed 3 development team, Hutchinson has had a pitch for his game idea greenlit by some head honchos at Ubisoft.

Dark Souls II to re-release with ‘Scholar of the First Sin’ edition, bundled with DLC

Comment

Dark Souls II is getting a fancy new rejigged release that will bolster it with all the game’s DLC packs as well as some flash new features.

Subtitled ‘Scholar of the First Sin’, the game doesn’t sounds as immediately defeatist as Dark Souls 1’s ‘Prepare to Die’ edition, but the First Sin is probably as equally terrifying.

Admiring Procedural Islands And Flora In Meadows

By Alice O'Connor on November 25th, 2014 at 9:00 am.

You know that scene in a sci-fi film where a scientist is so fascinated by a tiny creature or moving plant that they don’t notice the other dozen rising around them? And then they turn around and are surprised and delighted/horrified to see all the rest? Meadows can feel a lot like that. Created by Tom Betts in this year’s Procedural Generation Jam, it’s about roaming procedurally-generated islands, watching procedurally-planted flora grow according to their needs. Then we turn around and gosh, a whole island has sprouted while we focused on one sapling.

Hollow Knight’s Insecty Superhero Kickstarter

By Philippa Warr on November 24th, 2014 at 2:00 pm.

While John and I have a related argument over IM about the limits when defining the adventure gaming genre, you should have a look at Hollow Knight, a game about a platforming insect in a little cape.

CCP Shut Down Vampire: TM – Bloodlines Fan Remake

By Philippa Warr on November 24th, 2014 at 1:00 pm.

EVE developers CCP have put the kibosh on a fan remake of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.

The remake, known as Project Vaulderie, was billed as a non-commercial endeavour focused on recreating Troika’s RPG in Unity. The reasons for the remake were partly to do with making it more stable, partly for modding reasons, partly to add multiplayer, and partly just to bring it up to date in terms of the graphics and technology.

Battle For Wesnoth Is Still Free, Still Getting Better

By Graham Smith on November 24th, 2014 at 10:00 am.

A quick search reveals that we’ve only written one post about venerable, free, turn-based strategy game Battle for Wesnoth. One! One. Burn down RPS right now. It’s Fantasy Battles by way of Advance Wars, it’s open source, it offers a vast selection of user-created campaigns and the latest update vastly improves the interface, the map editor, adds a new faction, and more. Let’s increase that post count by 100% right now.

Just a quick note here: Steam sale seems to be indeed starting today (it's the 26th where I live ^^), as the usual midweek sales are missing (should've started about five hours ago), which strongly suggests there's another bigger sale starting very soon. Not that there was any doubt even before, but this is even further confirmation.

Armored Warfare’s co-op campaign is something World of Tanks sorely lacks

Comments2

World of Tanks and War Thunder don’t leave much space for a third free-to-play tank game. Yet Obsidian think Armored Warfare’s in with a chance of capturing some of the market from those entrenched mammoths by aiming for two things neither of its competitors have attempted; a story campaign and modern technology.

Good news, everyone: The World of Warcraft Blood Elf makeover is in progress

Comments4

While almost all of Azeroth is swanning about, looking fancy with their new character models, only the Worgen, Goblins and Blood Elves have been left out in the cold. The first two don’t care, because their character models look just as good as the new ones, but the Blood Elves were not so fortuitous. Worse, they had to look on as their Burning Crusade counterparts, the Draenei, got updated.

This unfortunate situation will soon be remedied. New models for the Barbies and Kens of World of Warcraft are on their way, and Artcraft offers up a glimpse of their new look.

Distance, the neon-soaked survival racer, is launching on Steam Early Access next month

Comment

I’m not usually interested in racing games that don’t involve karts and popular Nintendo characters unless they are called F-Zero, so it’s rare for me to get excited about new driving shenanigans. But Distance is weird. It’s an arcade racer where future-cars speed up and down neon highways, leaping, spinning and flipping their way to victory, if they can survive for that long. It’s utterly bonkers, and reeks of cool.

Our Rob took a look at it in the summer, and his thoughts are neatly summed up by the preview headline, Distance: Oh hell yes. Now it’s about to hit Steam Early Access, and you’ll be able to start defying physics on December 9th.

Solve your own nautical murder in Why Am I Dead At Sea

Comment

You should know three things about me: I like dogs more than people, I think boats are the raddest form of transportation and I reckon that ghosts are infinitely more interesting than zombies. Two of these facts are relevant to Why Am I Dead At Sea. Yes, it’s a game about spooky dogs. No, hang on a second. Wrong facts. It’s a game about a ghost on a boat. Sorry.

Here’s what’s up: You’re dead, and you’re on a boat. Why? That’s up to you to find out by possessing the other passengers and using them to investigate. There’s a trailer, so slap your eyes on it below.

Rek'Sai is League of Legends' newest champion; she's underground, so you've probably never heard of her

League of Legends has its fair share of grotesque champions, and the roster of horrors has just been expanded, with Riot revealing Rek’Sai, the Void Burrower. She’s a nasty piece of work, burrowing underground, creating tunnels, waiting to jump out and bite unsuspecting champions.

She’s a terror, but has a bit of trouble dealing with another new champion, Kalista, as well as Kevin Bacon.

Die With Pals: Take On Mars Adds Multiplayer & Survival

By Alice O'Connor on November 25th, 2014 at 8:00 pm.

What’s the point of going to Mars if we can’t asphyxiate beneath beige skies? Where’s the triumph if we’re all invincible? If I am not allowed to burst my own head by removing my helmet, I don’t even want to go to Mars. You might as well send a robot instead.

Arma makers Bohemia understand the need for peril, and for people to share that peril with. With the latest Take On Mars update, they’ve added “survival” bits and multiplayer to their Martian roving simulator. Is space-scurvy a thing? I guess we’ll find out.

Maniacs: Thimbleweed Park Kickstarter Funded In A Week

By Graham Smith on November 25th, 2014 at 12:00 pm.

Broken Age was trapped between two posts: its need to satisfy the nostalgia of the people who funded it via Kickstarter, and its desire to be accessible and reach a modern audience. The former group seemed displeased with the results, which is maybe what’s pushed Thimbleweed Park beyond its own $375,000 Kickstarter goal in just a week. It’s from the creators of Maniac Mansion, Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, and they’re creating a point and click adventure that feels like “opening a dusty old desk drawer and finding an undiscovered LucasArts adventure game you’ve never played before.”

So... How reliable is Chiphell? Becuase they have posted 2 "leaked" graphs (one perforormanc, the other power consumption) of an AMD's 3xxchip which they've called "Captain Jack" that's almost 30% faster than a 290X with a surprisingly low power consumption (yet still not enough to beat Nvidia).

True? Fake?

Please excuse my bad English.

If we believe those charts are true (even though I don't know how they can resume all those games listed on the right to just 1 chart), then comes the other question some people are also doing: is that "Captain Jack" a 390X or a 380X?
