Yep, the problem is not Valve working on them, is Valve launching them!

Let's face it, Half Life 3 is like the new Duke Nukem Forever. We know they've been working on it for ages, yet it never materializes into anything tangible.

Except Duke Nukem Forever released ;(

More like The Last Guardian and/or Agent :P

Half Life 2 Episode 2 was launched in 2007, that means that Episode 3/Half Life 3 has been in the works for 7 years. Agent was also "revealed" in 2007, I'll give you that, but The Last Guardian is from 2009 (I think) and we have see a ton more about this one than from the other two, combined.

Turtle Rock unveil four new hunters in Evolve

Comment

Turtle Rock’s co-op shooter puts four players in the shoes of big game hunters and one player in the rather large shoes of the big game. We knew there were more monsters to be revealed; so far we’ve only seen Goliath, a big lizardy chap. But Turtle Rock have just revealed four more hunters to pick from, too.

Stoic told backers that Banner Saga would come to Steam “even though we didn’t have any guarantee of that”

Comment

The Banner Saga was one of the top 10 best-selling games on Steam yesterday, thanks to a mid-week sale that reduced it to just over a tenner. In fact, since the release of its single player campaign in January, it’s done “really, really well”.

But when its indie trio left BioWare to start on their sobering viking RPG, in the days before Greenlight, they didn’t know they’d even make it onto Valve’s impassive grey storefront.

“When we went on Kickstarter though, we said that in our Kickstarter pitch that we were going to be on Steam even though we didn’t have any guarantee of that,” Stoic artist Arnie Jorgensen told PCGamesN. “When we were successful on Kickstarter, we could go to Steam and say, ‘Hey, we said we were going to be on Steam on Kickstarter and we have all this money – do you guys want to drop the ball or do you want us on Steam?’”

Lucas Pope follows Papers, Please with Return of the Obra Dinn

Comment

“‘Obra’ is pronounced like ‘Cobra’ without the C,” writes Lucas Pope, creator of Papers, Please. He’s detailing his new game, a first-person mystery set in 1808. You play an insurance adjustor for the East India Company and it’s on you to solve the mystery of the Obra Dinn, which “set out from London for the Orient with over 200 tons of trade goods” and wasn’t seen for six years. It’s just pulled into port and there’s not a soul on board.

We’re a long way from Arstotzka.

He’s now decided against developing his mod but Linvega’s picked up the reins and has started work on Purgateus.

Linvega’s world has a whole new sound and colour palette, completely changing the world of the original Proteus but keeping it familiar.

Say ‘Hello’ to Galactic War: the first part of Planetary Annihilation’s single player

Comments2

Galactic War puts you in the shoes of a freshly awoken commander. Now, while Planetary Annihilation’s commanders may be generals that lead entire armies of robots, command fleets, and, hell, can even turn planets into weapons, they, like us, forget things when they’re sleeping.

The Galactic War mode starts you off with a limited tech tree, the bulk of it forgotten while you were napping, and it’s on you to collect technology through conquest.

Fans remaking Capcom's cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 prototype for PC

Tom Sykes at 02:00 on 27 May 2014

I've spent a lot of time over the last six years writing about Nintendo games, and my most crushing Nintendo-related disappointment during that time was probably the announcement, and subsequent cancellation, of Mega Man Legends 3. It was to be a game designed, in part, by the fans - Capcom spent a lot of time consulting with the fanbase on their now-defunct Devroom site. Their plan was to release a MGS: Ground Zeroes-style prototype/prologue version on the 3DS eShop, before following up with the full game at a later date. That seemingly-fairly-complete prototype was later axed by Capcom, along with the whole miserable, hopes-raising project.

Why am I going on about this, and how does it relate to PC gaming? Well the fans have decided to make MML3: Prototype Version on their own, in Unity - and based on the first blast of gameplay footage, it seems to be coming along extraordinarily well.

We Need to go Deeper: a Jules Verne-inspired roguelike set under the sea

Tom Sykes at 01:00 on 27 May 2014

It's rare to find something genuinely fresh in a roguelike, what with 74.8% of the genre being both top-down and ascii-based, but We Need to Go Deeper is the rare example of a RL that grabbed my attention out of left-field. First there's that visual style, which presents an illustrated storybook world of giant squids, sharks, crabs and soggy mermen. Then there's the setting: a Beatles-style yellow submarine under the sea. Lastly there's the promise of an AI director guiding the two-to-four-player, co-op-heavy experience. You'll find a rather exciting trailer 20,000 leagues under the break.

Icarus Proudbottom: Starship Captain swaps typing for Star Trek-style bridge command

Tom Sykes at 01:23 on 25 May 2014

Icarus Proudbottom Teaches Typing was a game about typing in much the same way that Frog Fractions was a game about dodging projectiles - ie it wasn't. Holy Wow Studios' game quickly ventured into uncharted, and hilarious, territory - just like their newest project, Icarus Proudbottom: Starship Captain is planning to, it seems. From the looks of things it's essentially FTL as an adventure game/bridge captain simulator, viewed from the perspective of a starship captain rather than some omniscient thing in the sky. The Kickstarter trailer is wonderful. It is also below.

So a few days (or weeks? I'm not sure) I posted the news of a 4K TN monitor from Asus that looked decent enough. And now Tom's Hardware has reviewed it.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/asus-pb287q-4k-monitor,3832.html

The veredict is that it is still a TN panel with the color shift that this kind of panels have, but besides that, it's a good monitor that's will serve you good if you want to play with it.

Warcraft the movie has wrapped - but won't be out until 2016

Comments2

Men and women in caps (crew) and helmets (cast) have finished filming the Warcraft movie. Hooray! Let’s give them a week to reel it all up and then we’ll all go and see it, yeah?

‘Fraid not. Warcraft will now be handed over to Industrial Light and Magic, who’ll subject it to enough special effects and post-processing work to keep it unseen till 2016.

Brian Fargo doesn't believe in Kickstarter fatigue - but devs have to be "filling a niche"

Comments3

Chaos Reborn Kickstarterer Julian Gollop echoed a common sentiment two weeks ago when he declared crowdfunding “much more difficult now than it was even a year ago”.

The theory is that Kickstarter users are a savvier bunch with slightly lighter wallets than those that funded Wasteland 2. But inXile head Brian Fargo doesn’t think the golden age is over.

“I don’t think it’s so much it’s a Kickstarter fatigue, but if there isn’t a strong demand then I think it’s very difficult. I think that’s where some people are hitting some problems.”

SWAT's going on 'ere, then: Battlelog update unearths references to rumoured cop-themed Battlefield: Hardline

Something acronymed BFH is coming to Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4 and PC, according to icons buried in today’s Battlelog update.

What is it? Nobody really knows. But Battlefield redditors have cross-referenced the icons with the codename of a supposed SWAT-styled EA shooter expected later this year: Battlefield Hardline.

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham pits Batman, Superman, all DC against Brainiac. In SPACE

Comment

The original Lego Batman was maybe the least inspired of the last decade’s Traveller’s Tales games. Devoid of a specific plot to pastiche like Lord of the Rings or Indiana Jones, it soon devolved into fiddly character-swapping and occasional slapstick.

Lego Batman 2 set the series loose with an expanded cast and open world, and its second sequel threatens to open its universe even wider - to more than 150 DC characters, and into that most open of worlds: space. Cue trailer.

The Evil Within will have to remain there for just a little while longer, till October 21

Comment

Did you know, Bethesda didn’t publish a single game last year? It sounds like nonsense, but it’s true: beyond Dishonored’s essential DLC campaign, the Bethesda-Zenimax monster kept its head below the water and plotted Elder Scrolls Online subscription plans.

Between ESO, Wolfenstein and The Evil Within, though, they’re now in danger of putting out three whole games before the end of 2014 - a fact sufficiently alarming to have delayed the latter into the Autumn.

Magicka: Wizard Wars enters open beta; celebrates by forcing wizards to kill each other underground

Comment

Magicka: Wizard Wars, which we’re pretty fond of here at PCGN HQ, has hit open beta today. Previously only available to Founders and the Steam Early Access lot, it’s now opened up to absolutely everybody and their mums.

The opening of the floodgates also heralds a bunch of new content, including new, all-important wizard robes and assorted magical paraphanalia, a new magick, and a brand spanking new map set in a gloomy dwarven cavern.

I took the new content for a spin last week and ended up watching my wizardly gibs flying all over the stalwart walls of Galdrhöll Halls.

Battlefield 4 falls further as microtransactions appear

Comments3

It was never going to look good. An expensive game with premium membership options also getting microtransactions. That’s what’s happening in Battlefield 4 today, with DICE and EA making a move that was predicted before the game even launched.

You can now throw money at the rickety game for the privilege of getting Battlepacks. DICE calls it a “shortcut to catch up with [your] friends on the Battlefield.” A premium shortcut.

Heroes of the Storm vs. Plants vs. Zombies

Comment

A new map has been spotted in Heroes of the Storm. It’s yet to be announced by Blizzard, but sleuths discovered references to it in the game client. It’s basically Plants vs. Zombies, but in a Blizzard MOBA.

Apparently it works like the existing map, Haunted Mines, where players need to kill undead minions to summon the powerful Grave Golem. Only this time, it’s zombies that have to be killed, and a Plant Horror takes the place of the Grave Golem.

Sacred 3 is ready, says Deep Silver; release brought forward to August 1st

Delays are part and parcel of game development, so it’s a pleasant surprise when a title launches earlier than anticipated, rather than six months later. Sacred 3, Deep Silver’s co-op action RPG was slated for the end of August, but it’s been kicked forward to August 1st.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition is migrating from GFWL to Steam, absent all DLC

Comment

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition was one of the many titles blighted with GFWL. It was also one of the many games hit by the platform’s all too late closure, leaving players wondering if it had a future on PC.

The unfortunate answer to that question has now been answered: it’ll be making the move to Steam, but without its DLC, premium or free.

Slap your eyes on 15 minutes of lunar murder in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Comment

I thought I was done with Borderlands until I inevitably snatch up Tales from the Borderlands. Apparently I was wrong, because I now have a strong desire to play Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

It’s Borderlands, but on a moon in low gravity. That makes all the difference. Flying corpses, jump boosts, manipulating and scurrying for oxygen - it sounds like a hoot.
