At Steam, there are two new daily deals: Outdated

Fanatical has two new sales, one of them big:

Steam Workshop items for CS:GO, Dota 2, and TF2 now require Valve approval (Updated)
Mod submissions to the Steam Workshop now require Valve approval before they go live. The change, spotted this weekend by a user on the CS:GO subreddit, applies to new worskhop mods and updates to existing items, and Valve says the approval process should take "less than a day".
Update: Only Steam Workshop items for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2 will require approval from Valve moderators before they go live, a representative from the company has said. The new rules are designed to combat scammers promising "free skins" to anyone that subscribes to Workshop items, the representative said via email.

You can now play as Morrigan from Darkstalkers in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Modder ‘thor777’ has released a pretty cool mod for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. As we all know, this game features vampires and demons and this latest mod allows you to play as the female demon from Darkstalkers, Morrigan.
Going into slightly more details, this mod replaces the default Miriam model with Morrigan Aensland from Capcom’s Darkstalkers series. Furthermore, the mod includes the Bloodstained Modders icon in the splash screen.
This mod works with thor777’s No Hats and No Boots mod (in order to have a clean look at Morrigan’s model). Moreover, main costume choices are now available (so you can change Morrigan’s colour).
In order to install this mod, you’ll have to create a folder named ~mods under BloodstainedRotNContentPaks. Then, you’ll simply have to extract Morrigan.pak into the “mods” folder. And that’s it.
    >> You can get this mod from Nexus Mods.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Unreal Engine 4 fan remake looks stunning in these latest videos
CryZENx released new videos from his fan remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time in Unreal Engine 4. These new videos show the hyrule fields, as well as a New Main Menu. Moreover, CryZENx has added a new model for Saria, Gohma death and the Deku Tree death sequence.

The Witcher 3 Music Overhaul Mod released, adds 16 brand new songs
Modders ‘Ridog8’ and ‘Moahofer30’ released a pretty cool new mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, called The Witcher 3 Music Overhaul Project. As its title suggests, this project aims to overhaul the music of CD Projekt RED’s RPG.
Instead of replacing already existing music, this mod adds brand new songs to the game. The ultimate goal of the modders is to add a musical variety to The Witcher 3, and make it even more immersive and atmospheric.
Its latest version, version 1.1, adds 16 new songs in total. All these new tracks are for when exploring the game’s environments, and not for when engaging in combat.
    >> Nexus Mods is the home of this mod.

Rebecca Chambers is now playable in Resident Evil 2 Remake thanks to this mod
Modder ‘Blabit’ has released a new mod for Resident Evil 2 Remake that allows you to play as Rebecca Chambers. Rebecca Chambers was one of the members in the first Resident Evil game, though she also appeared in other parts like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 6.
Her “custom” Resident Evil 2 Remake appearance is based on her Resident Evil 0 HD 3D model. This 3D character swapper supports both hair physics and facial animations. Furthermore, her outfit is based on this concept art.
    >> This mod also comes from Nexus Mods, but you'll need FluffyQuack ‘s Mod Manager, to run it.

New video for Dino Crisis Remake in Unreal Engine 4 shows off Regina and raptors
Remember the Dino Crisis fan remake we reported a while back? Well, good news everyone as the team is still working on it (in other words, it has not received any C&D letter). Not only that, but Team Arklay has released a new video, showcasing the in-game 3D models for Regina and the raptors.

The Division, Just Cause 4 and Anthem can look like next-gen games thanks to Reshade & Ray Tracing
Reshade is a tool that can significantly improve the visuals of your games. Seriously, this is something that most PC gamers should be using. Why you may ask? But because it can make your current-gen games look like next-gen remasters.
MasterGames TV has shared three videos, showcasing Reshade (with Ray Tracing effects) in modern-day games like The Division, Just Cause 4 and Anthem. MasterGames TV used a lot of settings (not just Ray Tracing) and the end result is truly spectacular. So yeah, these visual enhancements are not just due to Ray/Path Tracing.

Play Sekiro as Krillin, the strongest man on Earth
Across hundreds of episodes of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, I think Krillin, Goku's best friend, has held a sword exactly once. He's also often a coward, almost always an idiot, and doesn't have a nose for some reason. Krillin is a world-class screw-up who somehow gets dragged into getting his ass kicked by super powerful aliens, which is why I love him. It's also why I love this mod for Sekiro that replaces your lethal warrior with this big dumb anime boy. He looks completely out of place, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
    >> I strongly disagree with his comments on Krililn.

Modder brings Minecraft Earth mobs to PC, including a chicken that lays mushrooms
Augmented reality mobile game Minecraft Earth, currently in closed beta, will have a number of exclusive mobs, including a cow that creates dandelions wherever it walks and a chicken that lays mushrooms. They sound fun, and thanks to YouTuber Logdotzip you can now bring them to the PC version of the game by downloading a data pack.
My favorite of the four mobs is the moobloom, a bright yellow cow that leaves a trail of flowers behind it. With Logdotzip's data pack installed, you can create a moobloom by feeding dandelions to a regular cow. It looks fantastic. Shear or kill the moobloom to get a yellow petal, and if you stick eight petals in a crafting table you'll get a dandelion necklace, letting you match the cow's ability to spawn flowers with every step.
    >> Get the download link from the description in his Youtube video.

Monday news, the long part two:

DayZ's ban in Australia now extends to digital sales
Earlier in the week, DayZ was refused an age rating by the Australian Classification Board. Despite launching years ago and already having a 15+ rating, Australian distributor Five Star Games had to resubmit the game thanks to the impending launch of the physical edition. Unfortunately, the decision also extends to the digital version.

Stone Story, an ASCII art RPG, is out now in Steam Early Access
Stone Story RPG has been in development for quite a while already—five years, according to developer Standardcombo. After a lot of updates on the TIG Source devblog forums starting back in 2014, it's finally ready for the world. It launched on Steam Early Access on August 8 and Standardcombo expects it to remain there for about a year, though it doesn't anticipate a price change between now and the final release.

Epic pledges loot box transparency across all of its games
Starting next year, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft and others have agreed to start sharing loot box odds. The ESA made the announcement this week, which included a lot of major publishers and platform owners. Since then, other ESA members have committed to transparency, including Epic Games.

Totally Accurate Battle Simulator's Renaissance update adds Da Vinci's tank
Totally Accurate Battle Simulator's newest update is out this week and adds the Renaissance faction along with a related new map, campaign, and lots of new units.
The Renaissance faction's home map is a Venetian-looking courtyard of tall, colorful buildings with a canal along the edge. Perfect for dunking enemy units in, I imagine. Along with its new 32-level campaign campaign, the Renaissance update brings seven new standard units.

Fantasy tavern simulator Crossroads Inn will release in October
Earlier this year developer Kraken Unleashed successfully funded Crossroads Inn, a fantasy tavern management sim with RPG touches on Kickstarter. Now the team is feeling good enough to settle on a release date: October 18, 2019.

Indivisible, the action-RPG from the maker of Skullgirls, is coming in October
A little over four years after Skullgirls developer Lab Zero Games took the cover off the anime action-RPG Indivisible, it's just about ready for release. The tale of a good-natured tomboy with a rebellious streak named Ajna who decides to kick ass and chew bubblegum when her rural home is attacked (and she's all out of bubblegum) will go live on Steam on October 8.

Dog shelter simulator To The Rescue hits Kickstarter goal after two days
Adorable dog shelter simulator To The Rescue has surpassed its funding goal on Kickstarter two days after launching and has started chewing into its stretch goals. This pastel-colored game about caring for pups will challenge you to handle all the duties of running a shelter and sending these doggos to their forever homes. You'll make sure your dogs stay healthy and upgrade your shelter to expand your pup capacity.

Loot boxes are a matter of 'life or death' for problem gamblers, says researcher
Speaking at a panel during the FTC's recent workshop on videogame loot boxes, York St. John University research Dr. David Zendle stated unequivocally that loot boxes are connected to problem gambling. As reported by GamesIndustry, Zendle acknowledged that the causal relationship between the two isn't clear, but said that the connection "is a clear cause for concern" that should not be trivialized.

Killing Floor 2 will offer 'paid weapon' DLC in future content updates
Killing Floor 2 has been around for close to three years now (longer if you count the Early Access period), and during that time developer Tripwire Interactive has been pretty generous with free content in updates like Back and Kickin' Brass, Season's Beatings, Infinite Onslaught, and the Summer Sideshow. Unfortunately, we live in a world where making games requires making money, and so Tripwire is going to change things up a bit in the next update.

This confounding game is chess, but with gravity
University professor Dr. Pippin Barr has made the version of chess they play in hell, and I love it. All conventional strategy is gone and every time you think you've found an opening, something confounding happens and it crumbles in a couple moves.

Epic reduces Fortnite mech spawns in Arena and Tournament playlists (Updated)
Ever since the start of Fortnite's Season 10, players have been venting about the addition of a powerful two-player mechs. Yesterday, Epic Games announced plans to nerf the mechs, but revealed that they'd remain in the game for competitive play—and the pros aren't pleased. A group of esports teams responded to the news with one voice, begging the dev team to scrap the mechs for Fortnite tournaments.
Updated: Epic has reduced the spawn rate of mechs in Fortnite's Arena and Tournament playlists ahead of next weekend's Champion series event. It comes after pro Fortnite teams asked for mechs to be banned from tournament play.

Deckbuilding RPG SteamWorld Quest's latest free update is a biggie, adding a new game plus, a new difficulty setting, a cache of artwork and the complete soundtrack.

Deeply messed-up visual novel Saya no Uta is coming to Steam
Steam's doors have been open to a lot of adult games it previously wouldn't have sold, but it's still a surprise to see Saya no Uta ~ Song of Saya appear in the list of upcoming games. This is a visual novel infamous because, as Brittany Vincent put it, "Not only are there descriptions of gratuitous violence, but sexual assault, adult scenes featuring a young-looking female character, and various other bits of awfulness are sprinkled throughout."

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville trademarked by EA
EA recently confirmed that while Plants vs. Zombies 3 will be a mobile-exclusive, there is also a new PvZ shooter in the works for PC. Codenamed Picnic, it's currently in alpha, but recent leaks have suggested that rather than being Garden Warfare 3 it'll be called Battle for Neighborville. A recent trademark listing for that name in Europe seems to confirm it.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock DLC adds new campaign and ships later this month
Space strategy game Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is getting an expansion later this month that will add a ten-mission story campaign, two new ships, and two new squadrons, alongside a free update that revamps the UI and control scheme.

Electronic Super Joy 2 could be your next ultra-hard platformer, out now
Electronic Super Joy was a brutal platformer full of electronic music and was, by most accounts, very good indeed: 90% of its 2,500 Steam user reviews are positive. Developer Michael Todd Games has just released a sequel that's completely free, despite having more levels than the original.

Shortest Trip to Earth, the tricky FTL-like, leaves Early Access this week
Ever since reading Tom's hands-on with Shortest Trip to Earth, which he described a "tough-as-hell spaceship management simulator...that takes time to truly enjoy", I've been awaiting its release, and developer Interactive Fate this week announced it's leaving Early Access on Thursday, August 15.

Still There is a dark, pensive game starring a space lighthouse keeper, out this year
Space adventure Still There, which is out this autumn/fall, plans a tricky balancing act: it's a game that wants you to confront depression, isolation and grief, but it also wants you to enjoy its dark sense of humor and eccentric AI companion, Gorky. I'm excited to see how it fares, and I like the look of its various old-school dials, joysticks and panels you'll be fiddling with to maintain the Bento Space Lighthouse, of which you're in charge.

Dwarf Fortress publisher explains why there's no release window
Dwarf Fortress is coming to Steam, complete with mod support and a new look. It's an exciting and significant change for the free ASCII game—don't worry, that version isn't going anywhere—but we still don't know when it's going to happen. In a recent post on Steam, publisher Kitfox explained why it's going to be tricky to give people a release window.

Horror meets skateboarding in the spookily rad, free Orange County
Yes it's another retro-looking, first-person horror game, this time made for the Haunted PS1 Summer Spooks game jam. But, hang on a moment, as rather than walking around a creepy, boxy environment, you're skateboarding around one instead.

Gears 5's map builder makes creating murder rooms look easy
Gears 5's map builder will let you take a break from filling monsters will bullets to try your hand at crafting your very own Escape mode dungeon. A new video gives us a quick look at the editor, which seems pretty flexible, but also mercifully straightforward.

Knights and Bikes is a nostalgic co-op adventure coming this month
Knights and Bikes is co-op action-adventure about a pair of bicycling buds pedalling around a fictional British island in search of adventure. It's got Goonies vibes but looks like a hand-painted Costume Quest, and it's due to launch on August 27.

Turn now for the Tuesday news:

Steam has two new daily deals, only one legit, as well as a new weeklong sale:

On the Humble Store there are three new sales:

You can finally play Demon’s Souls in 4K and 60fps, only on the PC via RPCS3
Demon’s Souls is a game that a lot of PC gamers would love to play. However, and contrary to the Dark Souls series, Demon’s Souls never came on the PC. Still, PC gamers well able to play this title via RPCS3 and get a taste of it. Unfortunately, though, the game was running with 30fps but that’s about to change as a new patch came out that enables a 60fps mode.
As the RPCS3 team stated, Whatcookie recently made a patch for Demon’s Souls allowing it to bypass the games 30fps cap and run at 60fps and 120fps for the first time. Yeap, you read that right; Demon’s Souls can run with 120fps.
However, it appears that the game’s movement is currently bugged at 120fps. For instance, if you’re running the game at 120fps and run into geometry the players movement will be very slow. This could have a serious impact on the overall gaming experience, which is why the team suggests running the game at 60fps… at least until the movement has been fixed via a new patch.

Replay Borderlands 2 with this big overhaul mod
With Borderlands 3 fast approaching, its predecessor is enjoying a resurgence. Recent discounts and free DLC has seen returning and new players hitting Pandora, and if you're playing through the whole thing, you might want to take a look at Borderlands 2.5.
Released last week, it's a work-in-progress overhaul mod for Borderlands 2, changing characters, gear, enemies and more. The mod team's intent is to let players discover changes for themselves, keeping new weapons and reworked boss fights a surprise, though you can see some of them linked in the Nexus Mods page.
    >> Get it from here, but be wary that you'll need some of the DLC.

Modders have added Dr Disrespect to two Resident Evil games
I love seeing mods that add favorite characters to games they shouldn't be in. Link in Skyrim. CJ in Breath of the Wild. The Witcher characters in anything. You name it. Dr Disrespect is not a favorite character of mine, I'll admit, but I do respect the impressively faithful rendition that modder "Letmelivegaming" on Nexus Mods put into her Dr Disrespect mod.
The Doc replaces Raccoon City police officer Chris Redfield in the Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster. Doc still has Redfield's voice, so you won't get any of the rage we know him for. It seems that another modder on the Resident Evil Modding Forum is attempting to supply some needed Doc yells.
But wait, there's more! Yet another modder has used the model by Letmelivegaming and added The Doc to another Resident Evil game. You can add The Doc in place of Leon in the Resident Evil 2 remake. Letmelivegaming uploaded a video of that mod to her YouTube channel as well showing an early RE2 scene with Doc that you can watch below.

Part two of the Tuesday news:

Subnautica dev to G2A: 'You now owe us $300,000'
In mid-July, key reseller G2A proposed the creation of a "key-blocking tool" that developers could use to provide the site with lists of keys that they don't want being sold through its platform. Keys distributed for reviews, for instance, could be entered into the tool so that if anyone ever tried to sell one, it would be blocked. But this being G2A, there was a catch: It would only make the tool if at least 100 developers signed up for it prior to August 15.
The response has been tepid, to say the least. In an update posted today, G2A said that only 19 developers have signed up so far.

Minecraft's Super Duper Graphics Pack canceled for being 'too technically demanding'
The planned graphical update for Minecraft, the Super Duper Graphics Pack, has been canceled, says an announcement from Mojang. Originally announced during E3 2017, the Super Duper pack has been in the works for a while but it seems Mojang wasn't happy with how it performed across different devices.

Cyberpunk tabletop creator will cameo in Cyberpunk 2077
In an interview with the Official Xbox Magazine, Mike Pondsmith, creator of the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop game, confirms that he's recorded for a role in the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 based on his RPG.

Former id Software boss Tim Willits joins Saber Interactive
Tim Willits announced in July that after nearly a quarter-century at id Software, he was moving on to something else. Today, he revealed what that something else is: Willits is the new chief creative officer at Saber Interactive, the developer of World War Z, NBA 2K Playgrounds, and the upcoming Ghostbusters remaster.

Fortnite's new mode is like prop hunt meets red light, green light
Fortnite's newest LTM, Junkyard Juke, is arguably one of its most fun in months, and it's coming straight from the Fortnite Creative World Cup.
The whole mode pits four teams against one another. One team takes a turn transforming themselves into props of varying sizes and trying to sneak their way into an incinerator at the center of the map. The other teams will stand atop a tower trying to shoot those mysterious gnomes, trash bins, and water heaters. All the while, the shooting team periodically has their sight blocked by a giant black screen, and the props on the ground can see a literal red light and green light indicating when they're safe to move.

Borderlands 3 will not be preloadable
It's common practice for digital storefronts like Steam to provide a "preload" period ahead of a game's release, so that the moment it goes live, hot-to-trot fans can dive face-first into it immediately rather than having to wait for it to download. (It also helps keep those hot-to-trot fans from demolishing servers as they all try to download it at precisely the same moment.) For the upcoming Borderlands 3, however, that's not going to be an option.

Fight Crab is a game about giant crabs fighting, and it features chainsaws
When a game is called Fight Crab, you have to sit the hell up and pay attention. And hopefully that's what you're doing right now, because this game, called Fight Crab, which features crabs (giant ones, and enemies to each other), crabs that fight each other, is now available on itch.io in Early Access.

Vampire: The Masquerade—Coteries of New York detailed
Bloodlines 2 is currently scheduled for April next year, but if you can't wait that long for something to sink your fangs into there's another officially licensed game based on White Wolf's tabletop RPG coming this year. Vampire: The Masquerade—Coteries of New York is being made by indie studio Draw Distance, who recently released some more info about what kind of game to expect.

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville trailer leaks
Rumors of a follow-up to the Garden Warfare series called Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville have been cropping up recently, and seem to have been confirmed by a European trademark filing for the name. Now a trailer has leaked, and while it's obviously not final—a couple of scenes are still sketches and the words TEMP GAME FOOTAGE appear over the action—it's a clearer look at what we can expect.

Quantic Dream is 'not exclusive to any platform anymore'
After a long stint on PlayStation, Quantic Dreams' weird thrillers have recently made their way over to PC. Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls are available on the Epic Games Store now, and in an interview with DualShockers, Quantic Dream's David Cage confirmed that this is how the studio means to continue, no longer tied to a single platform.
    >> Yeah, from now on they'll be tied to two different platforms. Freedom!

    Part two of the news:

Prey 2 audio logs reveal more of the cancelled game's story
Prey 2 is one of the cancelled games I think about the most. That trailer was enough to build up a lot of anticipation and dreams of being a bounty hunter on an alien planet. Instead we got the excellent but dramatically different Prey from Arkane. We'll never be able to play Prey 2, but now we can listen to some audio logs.

DayZ will be changed everywhere because of the Australian ban
DayZ has been having a bit of trouble in Australia recently. When the survival game's Australian distributor applied for a rating from the classification board ahead of the physical release, it was rejected. The rejection, effectively a ban, extended to the digital version, which was removed from sale.
Last week, Bohemia Interactive told me that the rejection was down to the depiction of drug use and that it was looking to find a way to keep the game available in Australia. For the time being, it looks like that solution is a global change.

Apex Legends solos mode goes live along with expensive new skins and a new currency
Apex Legends' Iron Crown Collection event is now live in a new update, bringing with it a new, temporary solos mode and at least seven stylish character skins that mix medieval armor, post-apocalyptic looks, pirate apparel, and other themes.

Fornite, Apex Legends cheaters have been targeted by 'hit and run' malware
Digital security firm Sophos has issued a warning about a sophisticated piece of malware, dubbed Baldr, that since early this year has been distributed via purported cheats for games including Fortnite, Apex Legends, and CS:GO. The software is "an up-and-coming password stealer" that's progressed through at least four major revisions, that enables users to steal credit card numbers, login credentials for gaming sites and other online platforms, and other personal information—at least some of which is being sold on dark web forums.

Skateboarding sim Session is coming to Steam in September
If you're pining for the Skate or Tony Hawk series, Session might not be exactly what you're looking for. "Forget about hand holding magnet features or turbo timers here," say its developers. "It's you and the streets."

Overwatch update: Role Queue and new hero Sigma are now live
There's a big Overwatch update today: in addition to the Role Queue system and new hero Sigma, Blizzard has a slate of hero balance changes. Most prominently, the hybrid tank/support Brigitte is being adjusted so that she's much more of a healer than a tank going forward.

Destiny 2 director reflects on the state of the game and what's coming next
Part one of Destiny 2 game director Luke Smith's long-awaited multi-part magnum update spends most of its time looking back at the game's recent history, touching on topics including the impact of the Annual Pass on the development team—it was a grind—and the challenge of maintaining difficulty while keeping things interesting for players who are constantly growing more powerful. But it also offers a few insights into what's coming next, including an update to Pursuits, changes to the storefront, and a culling of Gambit.

Take-Two boss says linking videogames to gun violence is 'disrespectful' to victims
Speaking in a recent episode of CNBC's financial talk show Mad Money, Take-Two Interactive chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said the suggestion that videogames cause real-world violence is "disrespectful" to victims and their families.
"This is a terrible tragedy, a senseless tragedy. It's fun to talk about entertainment, but lives were lost," Zelnick said. "The truth is, it's disrespectful to the victims and the families to point the finger at entertainment. Entertainment is part of people's daily joy, and it's consumed worldwide, and it's the same worldwide. Gun violence is uniquely American. And that has to change, and it will only change if we address the real issues."

No Man's Sky Beyond (probably) won't mess up your bases like Next did
On the brink of the release of No Man's Sky Beyond, I got to chat for a few minutes with Sean Murray of Hello Games via Skype, and he answered a question I and a lot of other NMS players have: Will Beyond 'reboot' the universe the way No Man's Sky Next did?

Puzzle with giant jelly cubes in clever, free puzzle game Splitting Headache
Pity the poor gelatinous cube. Its only crime is being a big gross jelly block that eats people and leaves their bones floating in its translucent stomach. Who among us can claim not to have done likewise? The cube's rehabilitation begins with Splitting Headache, Alan Hazelden, AKA Draknek's latest puzzle game. And, as ever from the Sokoban master, it's an ingenious, elegant puzzle game.

G2A responds to Unknown Worlds' accusations, calling them slander
A statement posted by G2A refutes the Subnautica developer's claims, making a bit of a show out of it in the process. The gist of G2A's post is that Unknown Worlds' losses through chargebacks came from sales of Natural Selection 2 in 2013, a year before G2A existed.

The Falconeer is a dogfighting game with giant birds
The Falconeer is a dogfighting game set above an ocean world, but instead of jets or spaceships peppering each other with rockets and lasers, it's massive birds. The Gamescom teaser above gives us a brief look at some graceful avian combat, but the developer has also posted some more detailed footage.

    Ice-T voices a character in Borderlands 3
Everyone's favorite Twitter personality—and also musician, rapper, producer, actor, and more—Ice-T voices an AI character named Balex in Borderlands 3. Last week, I had a chance to play through part of the mission he appears in, and I've cut together some of his lines in the video above (spoilers, obviously).
