Another Thursday, another free PC game. Following short on the heels of Kingdom: New Lands, this week the Epic Store has Enter the Gungeon by Dodge Roll studios on offer for the same price as a free toaster. Steam In-Home Streaming is now available outside the home
Steam In-Home Streaming, which lets you stream Steam games between devices that share a network, has "experimentally" been unshackled and is now available outside the home, too. Given the change, it's got a new name, Steam Remote Play, and you can try it out now.
As long as both devices you're running Steam on have a good connection and are close to a Steam datacentre, you should be able to stream games between each other wherever they are. You'll probably still want a wired connection, though. Even with a 5GHz router, I've found playing flashier games over wi-fi comes with too many concessions.

Fallout California – unofficial prequel mod to New Vegas – Version 2.2.1 available for download, optimizes performance
The team behind Fallout California, an unofficial prequel mod to Fallout: New Vegas, has released a brand new version of it. In case you weren’t aware of, this mod adds a brand new campaign that players can launch from the main menu.
Fallout: New California features a huge world (around 2/3rd the size of Fallout: New Vegas’ map), offers from 6-8 hours to 15-30 hours of new gameplay, and packs 13 ending. Furthermore, this mod sports 16942 lines of dialogue (14877 of which are voiced by characters and non-repeating from 60 volunteer voice actors), new textures and meshes, and 48 main quests.
Version 2.2.1 improves overall performance by optimizing Landscape normals from uncompressed to DXT1, optimizing some LOD textures and cut LOD atlas to half its previous size, making LOD for large pieces at Angel Breakers, reducing lighting and graphics load in The Father’s den, and reducing lighting load around Union City.
>> Available from Nexus Mods.

Total War collides with Mortal Kombat in this Medieval 2 mod
The Mortal Kombat universe, now that I'm forced to think about it, is a surprisingly fertile setting for some Total War. You've got memorable factions with lots of distinct traits, constantly shifting allegiances and several realms where the most popular occupation seems to be 'martial artist'. Mortal Kombat Konquest TW should fit right in.
It's a Mortal Kombat overhaul mod for Medieval 2, from modder Kirukato. They posted some work-in-progress videos last year and this month announced plans for it, along with some new screenshots.

Around the Network

Friday news, part two:

Square Enix is looking into releasing its huge catalogue digitally
Square Enix is looking into releasing its mammoth catalogue of games digitally after getting a lot of requests from fans. President and CEO Yosuke Matsuda confirmed that it's something the publisher is exploring in an interview with Game Informer, but it's not settled on how it's going to get all of its games out there. Different options are being considered.

Watch Dogs Legion gameplay video shows all 3 character classes in action
Ubisoft art director Josh Cook and lead game designer Mathieu Berube played through about 30 minutes of Watch Dogs Legion at E3, as you can see in the video embedded above, posted by UbiCentral. The footage shows the devs playing through and narrating several different missions and using Watch Dogs Legion's three different character classes: the Hacker, the Infiltrator, and the Enforcer, giving us a better understanding of their abilities.

Capcom wants to shrink the gap between Monster Hunter PC and console releases
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is heading to consoles in September, while those of us playing on PC have been left out in the cold. There's no release date yet, but Capcom is aiming for a winter launch. It's a long wait while others get to enjoy big monster fights. Thankfully, Capcom has not been deaf to the PC masses who want more Monster Hunter, sooner.

Shenmue 3 won't complete Ryo's story
Shenmue 3, if and when it ever actually gets here, will not tell the full and complete story of martial arts vengeancemeister/gainfully employed forklift driver Ryo Hazuki. In fact, series creator Yu Suzuki said in an interview with USgamer that it won't even give us half.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood has microtransactions, but only for cosmetics
While you're busy killing Nazis in co-op FPS Wolfenstein: Youngblood, you can collect coins from the environment which you can then spend on weapon skins, cosmetics and emotes. You'll also be able to spend real-world money on gold bars which can be exchanged for those coins. But contrary to some reports this week, you won't be able to buy in-game weapon upgrades that way.

GTA Online's infamous Vinewood Casino is finally going to open
It looks like GTA Online's infamous Vinewood Casino, a high-roller joint that's been in the game since it launch but has never actually been accessible, is finally opening its doors.

Space travel in Starfield is as dangerous as 'flight in the '40s'
During a muddled E3 Coliseum chat between rich car guy Elon Musk and rich Skyrim guy Todd Howard, the latter gave us a tiny detail about Bethesda Game Studios' next big RPG, Starfield.

You'll be able to romance your Fallout 76 companions, but they won't follow you around
At Bethesda's E3 showcase, Fallout 76 fans got a look at the reveal trailer for Wastelanders, the big update coming to the game this fall. It will add human NPCs to the game along with branching dialogue, new quests, and 'unique companions' from the two NPC factions: the settlers and the raiders.

Dontnod's Twin Mirror delayed, will launch next year as an Epic Store exclusive
Twin Mirror, the new game in the works at Life is Strange studio Dontnod, is "a story-driven investigation game" rooted in film noir about a journalist named Samuel Higgs, who discovers strangeness afoot when he returns to his hometown to attend the funeral of his best friend. Gameplay revealed in an October 2018 trailer struck me (in a good way) as kind of a mashup of Life is Strange, Alan Wake, and maybe Beyond: Two Souls.

Apex Legends isn't 'well suited' for streaming services like Stadia, Respawn producer says
Google is promising big things with Stadia, the streaming game service it announced in March, including 4K, 60fps gameplay on just about any hardware that can run the Chrome browser. The quality of your internet access will obviously be a big part of that—you can't reasonably expect it to work well on a slow or unreliable connection, after all.

Rainbow Six Siege Season 3 gadgets leaked: a grappling hook and a shield with a surprise
With Rainbow Six Siege's Operation Phantom Sight kicking off this week, we've entered the season for leaks. If a new info dump on ResetEra by reliable leaker Kormora is to be believed, the operators gadgets for Siege's Year 4 Season 3 are coming into focus.

Cyberpunk 2077's character creation options won't be limited by gender
CD Projekt Red has given more details about Cyberpunk 2077's character creator and the game's depiction of transgender characters. This follows criticism over an in-game advert that uses a sexualised trans model to sell a drink with the slogan "Mix it up". It's the only depiction of trans characters we've seen so far, so it raised some red flags.

Rumour: World of Warcraft is getting a level cap reduction
Every time World of Warcraft gets an expansion, Blizzard bumps up the level cap. Where there were once only 60, there are now 120, and while Blizzard has dramatically sped up the levelling process, it's still a daunting number. It also looks like it might be getting reduced.

Time now to check the GOG and Steam deals for the weekend:

  • The point'n'click adventure Toonstruck is free to grab for the next roughly 47 hours: https://www.gog.com/game/toonstruck
  • And the Summer Sale Festival is going to end in around 79 hours, so hurry up to check out the +2077 games that are up to 90% off: www.gog.com

And that's it, we've gone through the E3 week... and we survived! (not that there so many PC news, but still). Now what we have to do is relax and enjoy a happy and gaming weekend .

Planning is a problem yes. More so in terms of tech, and less about pricing, yet that pricing is tied to that tech, especially at the lower margin end. There are things like Lisa saying her and her team were extremely aggressive with Zen 2 in terms of advancements and pricing, so the road map can be sped up or slowed down somewhat. It's not like Intel was on the verge of 6 and 8 core mainstream chips before Ryzen came along, and yet wow did they ever show up fast all of the sudden.

Intel already had 6-8 core processors in the pipeline, it's not something they decided to do overnight.

In-fact Intel had roadmaps even as far back as before Ryzen was officially announced by AMD where Coffee Lake was set to have 6-cores anyway.

Intel also has it's HEDT designs which it technically could bring to the mainstream platforms if required and vice versa.

These things take years... And Intel and AMD need to try and make forward projections and make bets... Which is why AMD's bet with Bulldozer was a colossal failure and Intel dropped the ball hardcore with Netburst.

"Some will see this roadmap as confirmation that Intel is reacting to AMD’s Zen"

When you didn't plan on pushing out 6 and 8 core mainstream CPU's initially, and your 10nm process ends up delayed, you very well may end up maxing out your 14nm manufacturing process and have shortages, because you decided to compete with your new competition in terms of core count.

New The Witcher 3 HD Project comparison screenshots showcase great visual improvements

The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition is a mod that overhauls lots of game mechanics, Version 4.47 available for download
Back in May 2018, we informed you about a complete and comprehensive rework of The Witcher 3 that aims to offer a much higher quality experience than the original game ever could. Created by the dedicated W3EE Mod team, this mod has been further enhanced this past year and a new version of it was released yesterday.
The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition is a complete overhaul of most of the game’s mechanics and systems, promising to offer great depth and stimulating gameplay. The mod was designed with realism in mind, but in keeping with the spirit of actually having fun in a game, thus keeping tediousness to a minimum while simultaneously trying to offer enticing and somewhat realistic gameplay to the player.

Command & Conquer: Generals mod removes the 30fps lock, completely unlocks the framerate [UPDATE]
Now here is a pleasant surprise. Modder ‘VampireMonkey’ has released a brand new mod for Command & Conquer: Generals that removes the 30fps lock and completely unlock the game’s framerate. This basically means that you will finally be able to enjoy the first 3D Command & Conquer game at really high framerates.
UPDATE: It appears that this mod breaks the game speed as higher framerates speed up the entire game. Some users have reported that by using VSync it’s possible to get a smoother gaming experience (though the speed up issues may still be present for those gaming on 120hz or 144hz PC monitors).

Fan creates a Super Mario Bros Battle Royale PC game that is completely free on your browser right now
Battle royale is the next big thing in video-games as more and more developers add this type of multiplayer to their games. Now while some hate this new trend, we have to say that we were shocked to learn that a fan has created a freeware version of the classic NES version of Super Mario Bros on the PC that allows multiple gamers to play simultaneously, called Mario Royale.
Mario Royale is created by “InfernoPlus” and is described as a fully recreation of the classic Super Mario Bros game on the PC that works on every browser, is free to play, and is available right now on its official website.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes “remastered” thanks to this ESRGAN AI-enhanced Texture Pack
Reddit’s member ‘tophergopher1 ‘ has released a beta version of his ESRGAN AI-enhanced Texture Pack for the Nintendo GameCube remake of the first Metal Gear Solid game, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid game, created by Silicon Knights and Konami Computer Entertainment Japan for the Nintendo GameCube. This version featured new cut-scenes, new models and new animations, as well as new gameplay mechanics that were similar to Metal Gear Solid 2.
Since this is a beta release, gamers may discover various bugs and glitches. For example, a couple of textures – like the door panels – have graphical issues and other textures got cropped or had a bigger font text than the original versions. The good news is that tophergopher1 aims to release a new version of this pack. The new pack will take advantage of the newer ESRGAN, and promises to fix any tiling issues that are still present.

Skyrim's best religion mod receives overhaul, adding new gods and divine visions
You might've heard of an ambitious Skyrim mod called Religion that completely changes the way you interact with the gods of Tamriel—it's one of the best mods for Skyrim. With the mod installed all your actions, from the crimes you commit to the armor you wear, affects the way individual gods view you, and they can either bless you or curse you as a result. The whole mod has just been overhauled for its version 3.0, adding religious visions and new gods called Ancient Spirits, as well as the 13 Constellations.
It's an incredibly deep system with lots of moving parts, and you can have multiple blessings—or curses—at the same time. All of the gods are looking for different things, and you'll get clues about their desires through visions. To receive visions, you'll first have to worship them at set points in the world, which increases their disposition towards you based on the amount of in-game time you spend worshiping them (don't worry, you can press T to wait if you want to rack up many hours at once).
>> Get this mod from Nexus Mods.

Brutal Doom has a new trailer to celebrate the v21 Gold release
Brutal Doom v21 Gold came out in May of this year, but what it really needed to make that announcement memorable was a bold, blood-soaked trailer with a bangin' metal soundtrack. And now it has one.
The gold release trailer shows off plenty of Brutal Doom's additions to the base game, like faster weapon-switching animations so you can combo guns, revamped melee combat that includes kicks capable of pushing enemies away, a female player voice option, and optional improvements to fill out some of those empty outdoor spaces on certain maps.
>> Brutal Doom is available from ModDB.

Keanu Reeves says videogames don't need Hollywood stars
For my money, the absolute highlight of E3 was the Keanu Reeves reveal during the Cyberpunk 2077 segment of Microsoft's press event. Ending the trailer with the Keanu reveal was genius, and bringing him onto the stage (especially after keeping the whole thing so completely secret) was inspired. It was obviously a huge win for CD Projekt, but in the big picture, was it really necessary? Does the presence of major movie stars help to "legitimize" videogames as mainstream entertainment?

How Doom Eternal avoids the reboot's multiplayer mistakes
Doom's multiplayer didn't strike a chord like its relentlessly fast and bloody singleplayer campaign. After all the solo thrills, it was just, well, dull, and id Software knew it. id is keen to avoid the same missteps in Doom Eternal's recently announced Battlemode, and it has a clear idea of why the reboot's PvP shootouts didn't work.

Electronic Arts invited more than 200 members of its Game Changers community partnership program, as well as experts, streamers, and members of its own development teams to take part in a Building Healthy Communities Summit that took place during the EA Play event at this year's E3. Held as part of the company's ongoing effort "to improve the player experience by combating in-game behaviors that make people feel threatened or unsafe," the event included discussions about the impact of bullying and online toxicity, what gamers can do to overcome its impact, and what EA has done and will do in the future to help eliminate it.

Don't expect Xbox 360 games to run on PC anytime soon, though Phil Spencer says 'never say never'

CD Projekt boss re-commits to 'non-obligatory crunch' on Cyberpunk 2077
Last month, CD Projekt said it wanted to ensure that developers on Cyberpunk 2077 didn't have to endure the punishing crunch that concluded development of The Witcher 3. Mewgenics is 'officially back in development'
This is the third time we've had to write a story saying Mewgenics isn't dead, but guess what: Mewgenics isn't dead.
Indie designer Ed McMillen's next game, a prequel to The Binding of Isaac called The Legend of Bum-bo, is due out in late August/September this year, and he's got other projects on the go, like another Isaac DLC called Repentance in December. But he's still got time to think ahead, as he confirmed on Twitter this week: "After over 6 years stuck in limbo, Mewgenics is now officially back in development!"

Frontier Developments, the studio behind Elite: Dangerous, Planet Coaster, and Jurassic World Evolution, has signed its first deal as a third-party publisher, and it's with Surviving Mars developer Haemimont Games. Frontier will publish and provide development funding for a new, unannounced game from Haemimont, which will release "in two to three years' time".

One Rainbow Six Siege player found a way to play as an entire team
Co-operation? Teamwork? Totally overrated. A YouTuber called Basically Homeless has proved that you can win matches in Rainbow Six Siege all on your own, even in ranked mode. All you have to do is get five PCs with separate Siege accounts all in the one room, get your mouse and keyboard hooked up to a switcher, and then somehow have the dedication to keep playing over the cacophony of five games going on at once. You can see how he managed it in the video above.

Watch 17 minutes of Planet Zoo gameplay from E3
Frontier has shown off Planet Zoo's E3 demo, previously revealed behind closed doors. The gameplay, narrated by developers, gives us a pretty detailed look at a built up zoo full of animal exhibits, from big enclosures to wee terrariums. Give it a watch above.

Here's over 20 minutes of The Outer Worlds E3 2019 gameplay footage
I saw The Outer Worlds behind closed doors at E3 last week, and I was going to write about it and tell you how cool it looked, despite the gameplay demo being a fairly slight 20-or-so minute showing compared to Cyberpunk 2077's near hour-long presentation. Now I don't have to, because pretty much everything I saw has been put on the internet anyway!

Cyberpunk 2077 won't let you drive flying cars
Cyberpunk 2077 will let you drive a bunch of different vehicles as you cruise around Night City, but tragically flying cars won't be among them. The sci-fi staple is very much present in CD Projekt Red's dystopian sprawl, and the very first vehicle we see in the original gameplay reveal is a flying ambulance, but we won't be getting behind their wheels.
>> What a shame .

Don't expect Xbox 360 games to run on PC anytime soon, though Phil Spencer says 'never say never'
Earlier this year there were rumors that Microsoft was testing running Xbox One games natively on Windows, and we've long hoped to see the emulation it's accomplished on the Xbox One carry over to the PC. The console is already similar to a PC in both hardware and software, right?

There was significant licensing barriers for emulating Original Xbox games on Xbox 360... And again for Original Xbox and Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One... It's another kettle of fish bringing those efforts to the PC.

Would love to see it happen, but I think there are likely more important things for Microsoft to be worrying about, most Xbox 360 games are on PC anyway.

Xenia is moving along pretty good, so even if MS doesn't bring them to PC...

Star Wars Battlefront 3 Legacy, total conversion mod for Battlefront 2 2005, pre-demo available for download
Star Wars fans, here is something for you today. The Battlefront III Legacy Mod Team has released a pre-demo of Star Wars Battlefront 3 Legacy; an upcoming total conversion mod for Battlefront 2 2005 that aims to bring to it the content from Free Radical’s cancelled Star Wars Battlefront 3 game.
As its description reads, Star Wars Battlefront III Legacy (or: Swbf3: Legacy) is a large-scale conversion mod created for the 2005 version of Battlefront 2 (not the latest one from DICE) using as many Assets from the cancelled game as possible; including both eras (Clone Wars and GCW), a brand-new HUD+Interface and a few converted maps such as Coruscant and Cato Neimoidia.
Star Wars Battlefront 3 Legacy’s pre-demo comes only with Battlefront 3’s Coruscant, the Clone Wars era, three gamemodes and a lot of updated and new content from the previous beta versions. This pre-demo is said to be the most complete as it was planned for a longer time.
>> You'll find the link to this pre-demo (ModDB) in the article ,as well as the two other mods, one required and the other very much recommended, in order to play it.

20 minutes of gameplay footage from Borderlands 3 behind closed doors E3 2019 demo [off-camera]
YouTube’s ‘VGFAQ’ has shared a video, showing 20 minutes of gameplay footage from the behind closed doors E3 2019 demo of Borderlands 3. Unfortunately, this is off-camera footage, meaning that the image and colours are not that great (it’s way better than the mediocre off-camera footage of Marvel’s Avengers).

Tuesday news, part two:

Amplitude's Games2Gether platform could be used for other Sega games
Games2Gether is a community development platform created by Amplitude Studios for its Endless series. It's used for everything from tracking a game's development to unlocking freebies, and Amplitude's used it to build a community around its strategy series and their spin-offs. It's something publisher Sega hopes to see built on, potentially with other studios.

Sci-fi tactical party game I Am Not a Monster is getting a full solo campaign
I Am Not a Monster is an XCOM-like tactical combat game with a Werewolf-style party game twist. Modeled after pulpy sci-fi from the '40s and '50s, it puts six players aboard a tourist starship that's been invaded by aliens who can take human form. The humans try to fight off the attack, but the situation is complicated by the fact that they can't tell who the aliens are. It was released last year as a multiplayer game, and publisher Alawar Premium announced today that a single-player mode called First Contact is on the way.

Final Fantasy 14's director cracks up when asked if it will ever get classic servers
When World of Warcraft Classic launches later this summer, players will get the nostalgia trip of a lifetime: A chance to return to WoW as it existed in its original form back in 2006. But WoW isn't the only MMO that's changed significantly and irreversibly over the course of its life. Though few might remember it, Final Fantasy 14 originally launched in 2010, and was Not Good. The game was rebooted in 2013 as A Realm Reborn, and went on to be one of our favorite MMOs ever. That 2010 version of Final Fantasy is forever lost to time, though.

Gwent's upcoming Novigrad expansion adds a new faction and keywords
CD Projekt's Witcher-based card game Gwent is getting a new expansion later this month called Novigrad. Named after one of the largest cities in the North, the expansion will reflect its beauty, wealth, and rotten core with the addition of a new faction, the Syndicate, and a quintet of five new, thoroughly unsavory Leaders.

You can try WoW Classic on June 19 if you have an active subscription
If you haven't had a chance to try World of Warcraft Classic yet, Blizzard is running a stress test on June 19 in the Americas and Oceania regions. Announced earlier today, this stress test will run for 48 hours.

Fortnite leak reveals Stranger Things crossover, new LTMs, and dozens of items
The Fortnite 9.30 update has been datamined, as tradition demands, revealing dozens of new items and the titles of upcoming Limited-Time Modes. FunGamesLeaks posted the pics in one big screenshot that you can see below.

Fortnite update adds the Prop-O-Matic and healing Chug Splash
Fortnite v9.30 adds Chug Splash to Battle Royale. These canisters behave like healing grenades. You throw them, and anyone (including enemies) within the splash radius will get +20 health, unless you're at full health, in which case you get +20 shields. It can also "extend the duration of the 'knocked' state for knocked players." Delicious.

Cyberpunk 2077 won't just be set inside Night City
Cyberpunk 2077 is set in the sci-fi sprawl of Night City, but you'll also be able to pop outside the skyscraper prison and explore the lovely outdoors. Beyond the city you'll find the Badlands, a district filled with ruins and largely abandoned after droughts and other crises.

Cyberpunk 2077's vehicles will come when you call, just like Geralt's horse
In The Witcher games, Geralt rides a horse named Roach who, among other things, is always nearby and comes a-runnin' when Geralt whistles. Thanks to the magic of self-driving cars, which like everything else have advanced considerably over the decades, something very similar (but less equine) will be available to V when they need a ride in Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiple endings, devs 'seriously' considering photo mode
The slow trickle of Cyberpunk 2077 details following E3 continues. Quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, speaking to YouTuber YongYea, confirms that the game will feature multiple endings. It's mentioned in this interview at around the 15-minute mark. Tomaszkiewicz grants the question a simple "Yes".
