Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy Map Pack for Blade & Sorcery is now available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/star-wars-jedi-knight-jedi-academy-map-pack-for-blade-sorcery-is-now-available-for-download/
Star Wars fans, here is something for you today. Modder Redline90 has released a Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy map pack for the VR game, Blade & Sorcery. Therefore, players can now experience this classic Star Wars game in VR.
Going into more details, the modder has exported the maps from their original files and imported them into Unity. Then, Redline90 applied all the textures by hand. The modder also spent countless hours taking screenshots in-game and comparing against them. Thus, the end result is as close to the vanilla maps as possible.
It’s worth noting that the modder plans to add more maps in the future.

Get chased by Sirenhead in this creepy Fallout 4 mod
https://www.pcgamer.com/get-chased-by-sirenhead-in-this-creepy-fallout-4-mod/
I've heard of Slender Man (who hasn't) but Sirenhead is a new one to me. A creation of artist Trevor Henderson, Sirenhead is a gangly, forty-foot-tall cryptid whose head is a pole with two large speakers attached. Those speakers blare air raid sirens, emergency broadcasts, static, eerie snatches of music, and garbled conversations as Sirenhead lurches around the landscape doing Sirenhead things.
After its appearance a couple years ago, the internet quickly became fascinated by this creepy creature and Sirenhead has made its way into urban legend territory, which led to its appearance in fan art and games. Including, recently, Fallout 4, where Sirenhead has become a part of the Whispering Hills mod, a Silent Hill overhaul.

Thursday news, part two:

Desperados 3 is now coming this summer
https://www.pcgamer.com/desperados-3-is-now-coming-this-summer/
I'm so glad to be writing about Desperados 3 right now. Its fusion of Wild West cool with the stealth puzzles of Shadow Tactics: Blades of Shogun is something I don't want to miss. I'd been fearing the worst since the game missed its planned 2019 launch. It doesn't help that developer Mimimi has been pretty quiet since the Desperados 3 closed beta back in July too. What happened?

PUBG is raising funds for Australia with a limited-edition frying pan
https://www.pcgamer.com/pubg-is-raising-funds-for-australia-with-a-limited-edition-frying-pan/
The bush fires that have ravaged Australia over the past several months are now "contained" thanks in large part to the onset of heavy rains—which, unfortunately, has also resulted in major flooding, damaging winds, and dangerous surf. But the devastation left behind, including 33 deaths, an estimated 3000 homes destroyed, and as many as one million animals lost, must still be dealt with. To help with that effort, PUBG Corporation has released a limited-edition charity frying pan skin for Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, with all funds raised earmarked for Australian fire relief.

Wolcen players are getting fed up with all of its game-crashing bugs, glitches, and exploits
https://www.pcgamer.com/wolcen-players-are-getting-fed-up-with-all-of-its-game-crashing-bugs-glitches-and-exploits/
Just before Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem launched out of Early Access last week, its recent ratio of positive reviews on Steam had surged to 91 percent. After four years of troubled development, including a massively downsized list of innovative features, it finally seemed like the French studio behind the Diablo-like action RPG had found a path forward that players liked. But the week following Wolcen's launch has been nothing short of a disaster: Game-breaking bugs, server issues, a frustrating lack of polish, and an easily exploitable economy are just a few of the reasons Wolcen's Steam review ratio has fallen to just 56 percent. Of the 19,827 reviews Wolcen has received since launch, 9,782 are negative.

Turn Notepad into an RPG with the clever, free And Yet It Hurt

Yes, that Notepad. The one that comes with Windows, and that a million readme files are written in. Now you can use it to play an RPG—it's kinda astonishing.
Backing up a little, And yet it hurt is a thoroughly traditional fantasy game where you have to a) slay a dragon, and where b) your family is killed just a short way in. You, a heroic whelp, have to train and outfit yourself to destroy the dragon. And you do this, naturally, by futzing about with .txt files.

Larry Tesler, inventor of the cut, copy, and paste commands, dies at 74
https://www.pcgamer.com/larry-tesler-inventor-of-the-cut-copy-and-paste-commands-dies-at-74/
Computer scientist Larry Tesler, who was an instrumental figure at Apple in the '80s and '90s, died on Monday at the age of 74, according to Apple Insider.
Tesler began his career in the '60s as a programmer and Stanford AI researcher before joining Xerox in 1973. One of his inventions during his time at Xerox is something so ubiquitous, it's easy to forget that someone invented it.
With Tim Mott at Xerox, Tesler created the cut, copy, and paste commands we use daily. He didn't invent the fundamental idea of moving digital text from one place to another, but did create the specific method and naming convention that endured.

The Witcher 3 sales on Steam have exceeded $50 million for the period between October 2018 & today
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-witcher-3-sales-on-steam-have-exceeded-50-million-for-the-period-between-october-2018-today/
CD Projekt RED has announced that the sales for Steam version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have exceeded $50 million. That’s for the period between October 1st, 2018, and today. Do note that The Witcher 3 came out in 2015 on the PC.
In short, and after three years, the game was able to bring an additional of $50 million. That’s a lot of money and shows the strong legs of this particular title. Also note that $50 million is the accumulated revenue from the game’s sales on Steam. Accumulated earnings is the sum of a company’s profits, after dividend payments, since the company’s inception.
As a result, CD Projekt RED is now getting 80% on any subsequent sales of The Witcher 3 on Steam.

Camera mods released for Torchlight 2 and Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem

Isometric action RPG fans, here are two interesting mods for you today. Modders Cristi and Phnx have released two camera mods for Torchlight 2 and Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. These mods aim to provide some additional camera viewpoints for these two hack n slash RPGs.
Going into more details, the camera mod for Torchlight 2 aims to make the game experience more enjoyable for all classes by allowing you to zoom more in and out. Furthermore, the mod changes the aggression radius of monsters. Thus, you wont be able to snipe from the distance without getting spotted.
On the other hand, the camera mod for Wolcen allows you to zoom in the camera really close during normal gameplay. By doing this, you will be able to admire your character and the game’s environments.

Kerbal Space Program 2 moves to a new studio
https://www.pcgamer.com/kerbal-space-program-2-moves-to-a-new-studio/
Kerbal Space Program has come a long way since its initial public release in 2011. It went to Steam Early Access in 2013, made a full launch in 2015, and was acquired (along with developer Squad) by Take-Two in 2017. A sequel was announced last year, being developed by a different studio, Star Theory Games, but that plan has now changed somewhat: Take-Two said today that development of Kerbal Space Program 2 has been taken over by a new studio founded under its boutique "indie" publishing label Private Division.

https://www.pcgamer.com/unleash-your-inner-flyboy-in-dakka-squadron-a-warhammer-40k-ork-flight-sim/
There are a lot of Warhammer games out there, especially if you take Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40K as one great lump of grimdark, as I generally do. There are shooters and strategy and space combat and even sports, but one thing we haven't seen yet (as far as I know, anyway) is a flight sim.
You can now consider that niche filled, courtesy of Dakka Squadron, announced today by developer Phosphor Games. Somewhat improbably, to non-Warhammer fans at least, the game will focus on the Orks, the green-skinned lunatics who make up Warhammer 40K's most wildly warlike (and funniest) faction. (That's also where the name comes from.)

The latest This Week at Bungie update doesn't reveal the name of Destiny 2's next season, I'm sorry to say, but it does offer a look at some of the changes coming to weapons when it begins in March. It doesn't sound like the adjustments will be as dramatic as the recently-announced overhaul of swords, but various archetypes will undergo "finer tuning" for the advent of the new season, impacting damage values, range, and even aspects like reload cancelling.

Normal Map PBR Version 3.0 adds Skyrim textures in key locations. Moreover, it has improved pretty much all normal, specular and occlusion maps. As such, metals are now more “metally“. The game also now has better armors, better trees, better rocks, better grounds, better weapons and better creatures. Not only that, but this latest version includes a fix for Improved Argoinians neck.

https://www.pcgamer.com/help-the-devil-get-his-mojo-back-in-the-monstrous-roguelike-rogue-lords/
It's fair to say that in most works of fiction, the devil is portrayed as the bad guy. And in the upcoming roguelike Rogue Lords, he will still be the bad guy—but he will also be you.
Rogue Lords, which is being developed by Cyanide and Leikir Studio, is set in 17th-century New England, "where mortals and diabolical entities walk side by side." And the devil, having suffered a recent ass-kicking, is putting together a team, including Bloody Mary, Dracula, the White Lady, and Baron Samedi, to help him get his mojo back.

Control a giant laser in action-strategy defense game Taur

I hope a game that's a blend of shoot-em-up and wave survival and tower defense sounds good to you, because that is what I’ve got here. In Taur, you control a single giant gun emplacement that you surround with automated defenses. Then, waves of enemies come. Your cannon is powerful, but can't be everywhere at once, so you optimally attack the enemy as they come, obliterating swathes of lesser foes with a huge laser as your defenses hold off the rest. It's one of those games that sounds normal but then looks downright thrilling in motion.

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem hotfix brings greater stability and balance tweaks

Action-RPG Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem had a rocky launch with malfunctioning multiplayer servers, but developer Wolcen Studio is moving forward. The Wolcen 1.0.4.0 hotfix is here, addressing both server issues and balance concerns. Overpowered abilities like Bane of Tyranny and Secure Parry have been fixed, as have broken nodes Blistering Embrace and Shattering Strike. The Aspects of Apocalypse have also gotten a pretty extensive overhaul, with damage, costs, and length receiving big tweaks to one effect: Aspects now focus on a much larger short-term boost to damage at a higher cost, to make them feel more powerful. The rest of the tweaks and fixes generally focus on stability, bugs, and server overhauls. You can read the full patch notes on both the Wolcen website and Steam.

After a few years in Early Access, siege weapon playground Besiege released this week to little fanfare. Which is inappropriate because it is in theory, at least, about the age of fanfares. That is wrong and bad to me, so we're going to celebrate one of the most hilarious games of the last few years, a physics sandbox that encourages players to create absolutely crazy engines of war and set them loose on a bunch of campaign levels and/or each other. At its launch, gifs of Besiege in action were a staple on Twitter and Reddit, so I'd like to show off some of my favorites from a casual perusal of some out there.

Here are Doom 2016, DiRT Rally 2, Need for Speed Underground and Vampyr with Reshade Ray Tracing

YouTube’s members Stre1itzia, AD Massicuro, Zetman and Digital Dreams have shared videos, showing Doom 2016, DiRT Rally 2, Need for Speed Underground and Vampyr with Ray Tracing effects. In order to add these Ray Tracing effects, these gamers used Pascal “Marty McFly” Gilcher’s Reshade.
The end result is… questionable to be honest. While this Reshade makes these games look better, it also comes with a huge performance hit. Not only that, but this isn’t true RT effects. On the other hand, it’s at least better than nothing, right?

This is a really fun custom mode for Halo, and we strongly suggest downloading from here. Do note that you will need the latest patched version of Halo Custom Edition in order to run it.

In January, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan revealed the Overwatch Experimental Card, an upcoming new mode that will enable players on all platforms to test planned changes. It's similar to the public test realm in some ways, but aside from being accessible to all players (the PTR is restricted to PC), Kaplan said that it will be focused on gameplay changes rather than bug testing. The descendant (get it?) of the classic six-degrees-of-freedom shooter Descent was announced in 2015 with an eventually-successful Kickstarter, launched on Steam Early Access later that year, was removed from Early Access in 2017 so developers could "focus on implementing single-player, tech trees, and the other cool features," and was then slated for proper beta testing (renamed as simply Descent) in late 2018, followed by a planned release in 2019. It then seemed to fall off the face of the Earth.

There are more ways than ever to spend money in Rainbow Six Siege. Tally up the $25-$30 annual passes, $15 premium cosmetics, paid renown boosters, seasonal paid alpha packs, $10 battle passes and it’s a lot for a game that still requires a minimum buy-in of $20. When I sat down with game director Leroy Athanassoff at the Six Invitational 2020, I was curious to know: will Siege ever go free-to-play?

Steam's search function just got a whole lot better
https://www.pcgamer.com/steams-search-function-just-got-a-whole-lot-better/
With so many games on Steam, and no system of quality control in place to filter out the garbage, finding new things to play can be challenging. To help smooth those rough seas, Valve has developed a number of tools, like the Interactive Recommender and Play Next, through "experiments" in its new-ish Steam Labs program. One of those experiments, from September 2019, sought to expand Steam's basic search functionality with more filters and features.
That experiment is now fully live, which means that the Steam search function now enables users to filter their results by price and/or special offers, include and exclude tags (so you can specify survival games, but no zombies, for instance), and exclude games that you already own or have wishlisted or ignored. If you're searching in a non-English language, a language filter control will appear near the top of the search page, and if you're tired of seeing VR-exclusive results when you don't have a VR headset, you can now opt to exclude VR-only games.

GOG has made a change to its refund policy, simplifying the process and letting you get your money back, no questions asked, as long as you request the refund within 30 days.
Previously, GOG's policy was a bit stricter than the likes of Steam's, as refunds were only guaranteed if the game hadn't been downloaded and played. Refunds could be appealed for other reasons, but not liking the game wasn't one of them. Now you don't have to worry about any of that.
If you've played the game, it's fine—you can still get a refund. It doesn't matter how long you've played for, either. Since most games can theoretically be completed in a month, the new policy seems pretty open to abuse, but GOG will be keeping an eye on refunds to make sure it's not being exploited.
>> I hope it doesn't blow up in their face. There are a lot of ass*oles out there that will try to abuse it.

MODS/EMULATORS

Whispering Hills 2 is a Silent Hill overhaul mod for Fallout 4, available now for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/whispering-hills-2-is-a-silent-hill-overhaul-mod-for-fallout-4-available-now-for-download/
Mangaclub has released the Definitive Edition 2.51 version of the Whispering Hills 2 mod for Fallout 4. Whispering Hills 2 is an overhaul mod for Bethesda’s RPG that turns Fallout 4 into a Silent Hill-like nightmare.
What this basically means is that the game now features Thick Fog and strange sounds. Not only that, but occasionally players will be dragged into Otherworld where monsters await them.
This latest version introduces the Lying Figures that will spit acid on players. Players can find the Lying Figures all around the commonwealth, and especially in Concord. The modder has also made some fundamental changes to Sirenhead.
Moreover, it adds a special someone in the asylum floor. It also brings support for VRFix, meaning that VR users should be able to use it again.

Cuphead gets an Easy Mode thanks to this new “Assist Mode” mod, available now for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/cuphead-gets-an-easy-mode-thanks-to-this-new-assist-mode-mod-available-now-for-download/
Cuphead is a challenging platformer that came out in 2017. Now while I didn’t have any trouble with it, other gamers felt it to be way too difficult. As a result of this, n00bplatformer has decided to release a new mod that enables an Easy Mode for it.
As the modder noted, this mod is inspired by Celeste’s assist mode. Thus, the mod intends to ease the game difficulty by granting additional HP (6HP instead of 3HP), weapon damage boost (1.5x) and coins (40) to the player.
The modder also recommends to start a new save file with this mod. So yeah, don’t use it on your older saves, otherwise there might be some compatibility issues.

This Stardew Valley mod swaps combat for cuddles
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-stardew-valley-mod-swaps-combat-for-cuddles/
Stardew Valley's murderous mines are strangely juxtaposed to the rest of the farming and life sim. Hit the mines, and this game about making pals, attending parties and tidying up your inherited farm becomes a killing spree where no slime or bat is safe from your sword. Unless you use the Pacifist Valley mod.
In Pacifist Valley, the mines are simply another place to make lots of new friends. The mod replaces all the weapons with cuddly toys, feathers, love hearts and other friendly things; while the act of combat itself has been replaced with smooching and heart emoting. Instead of dying, the monsters will fall in love with you.
Fish, unfortunately, can still be killed by the truckload, but that could change in a future update. There are a few issues, too, including some of the gore not being replaced (instead of blood you should just see more hearts), the hit box for some monsters being wrong and some problems with a few of the 'love devices.'

In December, CD Projekt announced that musician Grimes would provide the voice of Lizzy Wizzy, the frontwoman of Lizzy Wizzy and the Metadwarves in the upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077. It also shared a bit of the music that she might be contributing to the game's soundtrack, but otherwise said nothing about the character, the band, or the role they would play in the context of the game.
In a recent livestream promoting her new album Miss Anthropocene, however, Grimes herself apparently revealed a little bit of the story behind the character. Naturally, this involves potential spoilers, so govern yourselves according.
