Doom Eternal is apparently twice as long as its predecessor
https://www.pcgamer.com/doom-eternal-is-apparently-twice-as-long-as-its-predecessor/
Doom Eternal is not a nice, relaxing game about slowly sauntering. It's fast, ultra-violent and you're going to be juggling a lot of guns, demons and abilities. But that doesn't mean you'll be done with it quickly. According to creative director Hugo Martin, it will take you around 22 hours to get to the end.

Doom Eternal developers were 'crunching pretty hard' for most of 2019
https://www.pcgamer.com/doom-eternal-developers-were-crunching-pretty-hard-for-most-of-2019/
Doom Eternal was scheduled to be out in November 2019, until id Software pumped the brakes and pushed it into March 2020. By all appearances it's going to make that date—previews went live today (here's ours), and the overall impression seems very positive—but executive producer Marty Stratton acknowledged to VG247 that it's taken some pretty hard crunching to reach this point.

Telltale's The Walking Dead games are coming back to Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/telltales-the-walking-dead-games-are-coming-back-to-steam/
The Walking Dead games were delisted from Steam in late 2018, a victim of the surprise implosion of developer Telltale Games. New series owner Skybound Games later brought them back to the Epic Games Store, and they remain available on Steam for people who have already purchased them. You can also see them there, but not purchase them, if you have a direct link like the ones below, although the store pages no longer appear in searches.
That will soon change, as Skybound announced today that Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 1, Season 2, A New Frontier, and The Final Season will all be re-released on Steam later this week.

Why, Rippley, have you lost weight? No, that's just Fortnite's newest skin, a very undersea-looking, sniper rifle-toting killer named "Jellie."
Introduced this Tuesday in Fortnite's item shop for a cool 1,200 V-Bucks, Jellie sports a distinctly blobbish vibe, just minus 50 or so pounds. Is it Weightwatchers? Ring Fit Adventure? The new face of Peloton bikes? Nah, it's probably all that running around, sniping people from afar.

Temtem's Early Access launch is faring better after an update

It turns out that 'Pokémon, but an MMO on PC' is an attractive pitch: At the time of writing, I'm around 14,000th in the queue to connect to monster battling MMO Temtem, which launched in Early Access today.
Update: There's still long queue—over 6,000 when I last joined, which took about 30 minutes to wait through—but after a small patch Temtem seems to be working much better. I haven't had a disconnect and have played through several combat encounters without the freeze I ran into this morning.

I got RAM working at proper speeds enabling the proper profile instead of auto settings. The chipset fan is driving me nuts on the other hand - 3000+ rpm at all times. It might have been a bad idea mounting the GPU right on top of it after all :P will move it to the other PCI-e slot when I have some time.

Nice, while I was looking into it for you I boosted my own ram from the 1333mhz to 1600mhz by enabling profile also. Come on DDR3! You can last another 2 years till DDR5 hits the market!

Finally overclocked my i5-4670k to 4.3ghz and upgrading my RX470 to a GTX 1070 TI, that'll hold me over for a while. My CPU has done an admirable job lasting this long and I'm hoping it'll still manage 60fps in games for a while yet until I upgrade to Ryzen.

And yeah... I'm wary of getting a motherboard with a fan too. I'm kind of obsessed with having a quiet PC.

And not just for quietness, but also because a new fan is another component that can fail, and what happens when that fan fails?

Bad things, probably.

I found a program on Github called Libre Hardware Monitor that allowed me to manually control all PC fans from desktop. Either way, that being said, moving the PC parts to unobstruct all fans actually did the job, fan control or not.

Well, congrats on keeping the fans quiet.

And the fan can probably be replaced if it ever fails. It wasn't that uncommon years ago when motherboards came with fans to keep parts of them cool.

Speaking of fans, I believe one of the fans in my 1080ti has gone a little faulty with it's bearings. I'll need to grab some lubrication oil and take the GPU apart to sort it out next month.

Valve has posted a list of the most successful Steam releases in December, and as usual, it's a mix of the expected (Halo, Red Dead Redemption 2) and the surprising (Nancy Drew: Midnight in Salem, VR Paradise: Gentlemen's Club). The list isn't ordered - so we don't know which among these sold best - but it's testament to the wide range of games available on the platform.
The list is determined by the amount of revenue generated during the first fortnight of each game's launch.

Half-Life: Alyx doesn't have a firm release date yet—it's still listed as "Coming March 2020" on Steam. Given that we'll soon be wheeling into the last week of January, that lack of specificity may not inspire great confidence that it won't be delayed. Valve says that's not likely to happen, though, because the game is now effectively complete.

One of the biggest highlights, though, is that players who participate in the beta won't have to fear losing their cards, rank, or saved currencies. Once Legends of Runeterra is live, Riot won't be wiping player accounts for the full launch later this year.

Horror developer Bloober Team is teasing something in a new video, and that something is almost certainly Observer 2, the follow-up to its creepy space horror affair. Check it out above.

For those who want to help fight the Bushfires in Australia, Humble Bundle has set up a big Bundle just for this:

For the low price of $25, you get a whooping 29 games, some of them quite big titles. Of course, you're free to give more if you want to. 100% of the income goes to the cause, Humble Bundle or the developers won't take anything from that money

Wish I knew about this earlier, but been busy fighting the fires, so haven't had time for anything.
Fires are winding down now though, for at-least the short term, things will start looking rude again next month for much of the nation.

Thanks to everyone who donated to the cause, it's obviously an issues that is very close to home for me.

Yeah. My old 3930K from 2011 is still able to run the latest games just fine, it's relegated to mostly just office work these days though as my Ryzen rig shits all over it, but it's amazing how those old chips are still hanging on even after a decade.

And not just for quietness, but also because a new fan is another component that can fail, and what happens when that fan fails?

Zip tie a 40mm fan onto it.

But seriously, adjust your fan profile so that it engages at only higher temperatures (60'C or more) in the BIOS, that way you get peace and quiet and the fan will last longer as it's not running flat out all the time, plus will still kick in when needed.

My old X79 board had a chipset fan (Actually two of them!) and there hasn't been any issues.

Homeworld 3 studio Blackbird Interactive is working on something new
https://www.pcgamer.com/homeworld-3-studio-blackbird-interactive-is-working-on-something-new/
Gearbox Publishing revealed at PAX West last year that Blackbird Interactive, the developer of the 2016 RTS Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak—and founded by veterans of original Homeworld studio Relic Entertainment—was working on a new, back-into-space Homeworld game. A very successful Fig campaign followed, and a little over a month ago the studio laid out its plans for the game.
But that's apparently not the only thing Blackbird is working on.

Probably one of my favorite developers right now...
