NVIDIA PhysX Now Open-Source
NVIDIA PhysX, the most popular physics simulation engine on the planet, is going open source. "We're doing this because physics simulation - long key to immersive games and entertainment - turns out to be more important than we ever thought. Physics simulation dovetails with AI, robotics and computer vision, self-driving vehicles, and high-performance computing."

"It's foundational for so many different things we've decided to provide it to the world in an open source fashion. Meanwhile, we're building on more than a decade of continuous investment in this area to simulate the world with ever greater fidelity, with on-going research and development to meet the needs of those working in robotics and with autonomous vehicles."

You can also find the full source code on GitHub.

It's about damn time! nVidia releasing it's iron grip on middle-ware like this is just a good thing.

A decent watch, though I'm still not interested in native 4k gaming until the prices go down, and the games/hardware are more than competent enough to do 4k 60fps+, without having to drastically turn down the settings.

Tuesday news:

At Steam, we have a new daily and weeklong deals:

On the Humble Store, there are two new deals:

And at Fanatical, there are also two new deals:

A Steam bug has reportedly halved the revenue of some indie developers
In October, Valve introduced a bug into Steam’s Discovery feature that made it recommend large, popular games instead of more relevant ones, according to developers affected by the problem. While the bug was apparently squashed quite quickly, the impact has remained, with a significant number of indie developers reporting a reduction in traffic and sales.
The issue has been going on for two months and there’s a forum thread (only developers who log in can read it) detailing it, but if you’re not a Steam developer, you can also read Shadowhand and Ancient Enemy developer Jake Birkett’s detailed account.
>> It's interesting that we know about this just days after learning that Valve will give big publishers more money, pissing off the indie scene.

Spend your Ubisoft Club points soon or they'll start to vanish
You probably don’t think about Ubisoft Club points (which they insist on calling ‘units’) very often. They’re earned in-game for completing challenges, but there are so many opportunities to earn them that you’ll get plenty without going out of your way. They’re an unobtrusive way for Ubisoft to reward players without putting pressure on them. Recently, I used some to fill my ship in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey with an army of female assassins, so I’m generally pro Ubisoft Club points. Unfortunately, Ubisoft has now decided to give the points a two-year shelf life that kicks in next year. Your points are going to start vanishing.
“Beginning April 1, 2019, you have 24 months to redeem the Club Units you acquired through your gaming experience or by making eligible purchases on the Ubisoft Store,” Ubisoft warns in its FAQ. “After 24 months, these Club Units will expire and will automatically disappear from your Ubisoft Account. Each time you redeem Club Units, the oldest Club Units will be redeemed first.”
>> I better take a look at how many points I have and what can I do with them. And not because I care about them, but because I don't want to stupidly miss them.

Epic Games is starting a store to rival Steam
Fortnite developer Epic Games is launching a new online shop called Epic Games Store. The store will offer an 88/12 percent developer-to-Epic revenue split, compared to a 70/30 split on Steam for devs earning less than a certain amount. The Epic Games Store is launching soon with a collection of titles that will expand throughout 2019.
Epic is leaning hard on the revenue split disparity between Steam and their new store. CEO Tim Sweeney tells MCV that “In our analysis, stores charging 30 per cent are marking up their costs by 300 to 400 per cent." The announcement also came with a graph to push the point.
Games using any engine will be allowed on the store, though Epic will waive the licence charge for games that use its Unreal Engine.
>> And another one joins the battle. I wonder what will happen to their current Epic Games store.

Tuesday news, part two:

Epic teases Fortnite Season 7, more announcements coming at The Game Awards
Epic Games has posted the first teaser for Fortnite season 7, and it looks like it's going to be a chilly one.
Three days takes us to, let's see, December 4, 5, 6! Which also happens to be the date of the The Game Awards. Gee, I wonder if that's just a coincidence?

Just Cause 4 Easter egg replaces Rico's grappling hook with instruments of sheer agony
Thanks to his nigh-magical grappling hook, Rico Rodriguez is a man who doesn't have any issues climbing over obstacles. An amazing Easter egg in Just Cause 4 changes all that. Upon finding a suspiciously familiar looking pot and a pickaxe on the side of a mountain, the game camera swivels out to a side view and Rico suddenly finds himself in a replication of the ridiculously punishing Getting Over It With Bennet Foddy. You'll never take the grappling hook for granted again.

See some of the sleek new weapons coming in Destiny 2's Black Armory
The Black Armory, your one-stop shop for some of the hottest implements of death and destruction that you can lay your hands on in Destiny 2, opens its doors to Guardians everywhere tomorrow. And by everywhere, I mean 'so long as they own the annual pass'. If that's you, then we've got a brand new teaser to look at that's a lot like a Chanel No. 5 advertisement, but for pretend guns in space.

Get a first look at The Walking Dead's Negan fighting in Tekken 7
The Walking Dead’s Negan got his proper Tekken 7 unveiling at the Tekken World Tour Finals. The bizarre crossover was teased back in August, but now you can see how he fights. And, it turns out, he fights like a some guy with a baseball bat.

Rainbow Six Siege’s Operation Wind Bastion launches tomorrow (with new operator nerfs)
Ubisoft announced today that Rainbow Six Siege’s Operation Wind Bastion will be launching tomorrow, Dec. 4, on all platforms. A one-hour scheduled maintenance will occur for the PC version at 9 AM Eastern Time that will deploy the patch. You can read the full official patch notes here.

Ghost Recon Wildlands Special Operation 3 begins next week
Ghost Recon Wildlands Special Operation 3 will kick off on December 11, Ubisoft announced today, with a new PvE mission, two new PvP classes and two new maps, new items, updates to the Prestige Economy, and a Photo Mode, which somehow hasn't been added to the game already.

Bethesda will send proper canvas bags to Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition owners
If you haven't been following the Fallout 76 news, there was a rather large uproar about the duffel bag that shipped with the $200 Power Armor Edition. The bag was advertised as canvas, but it was replaced with a cheap-looking nylon version with no warning from Bethesda beforehand. Naturally, Fallout 76's biggest spenders were unhappy about this bag-switching, and Bethesda's solution of giving a measly 500 Atoms as compensation for that substandard bag just made things worse.
Now, it looks like Bethesda is going to make good on its original promise of delivering a canvas bag, though there's still a certain amount of work customers will have to do to make it happen
>> It probably has something to do with them being in a position where they can be sued for false advertising and things like that, but good on them.

Meet Zheng Jiang, Total War: Three Kingdoms' bandit queen

Also with less features, deals and modding capabilities. Online only based games ho!

Current competition in terms of clients haven't done much over the past 5 years, neither has Discord, which relies heavily on it's chat client, as well as a bag O' money for timed exclusive games. Epic has next to nothing going for them besides one game, and another being an abandoned half finished game (UT).

So what y'all playing nowadays?

^Good question.

Right now I'm playing mostly Xenonauts at GOG. I'm really enjoying it and I've already put more than 120 hours into it. Besides that, I keep playing a bit of Euro Truck Simulator 2 every now and then, on Steam, of course.

And when my brother comes home he uses my PC to play Company of Heroes and Ega of Empires II HD.

By the way, have you heard the new rumor about the Zen 2 based Ryzens, the 3000 series? I find it too good to be true, and that's why I decided to not post it, but if one of you wants, I'll put it here so we can trash talk about it .
