https://www.pcgamer.com/dayzs-ban-in-australia-now-extends-to-digital-sales/
Earlier in the week, DayZ was refused an age rating by the Australian Classification Board. Unfortunately, the decision also extends to the digital version.

After a lot of updates on the TIG Source devblog forums starting back in 2014, it's finally ready for the world. It launched on Steam Early Access on August 8 and Standardcombo expects it to remain there for about a year, though it doesn't anticipate a price change between now and the final release.

https://www.pcgamer.com/totally-accurate-battle-simulators-renaissance-update-adds-da-vincis-tank/
Totally Accurate Battle Simulator's newest update is out this week and adds the Renaissance faction along with a related new map, campaign, and lots of new units.
The Renaissance faction's home map is a Venetian-looking courtyard of tall, colorful buildings with a canal along the edge. Perfect for dunking enemy units in, I imagine. Along with its new 32-level campaign campaign, the Renaissance update brings seven new standard units.

https://www.pcgamer.com/loot-boxes-are-a-matter-of-life-or-death-for-problem-gamblers-says-researcher/
Speaking at a panel during the FTC's recent workshop on videogame loot boxes, York St. John University research Dr. David Zendle stated unequivocally that loot boxes are connected to problem gambling. As reported by GamesIndustry, Zendle acknowledged that the causal relationship between the two isn't clear, but said that the connection "is a clear cause for concern" that should not be trivialized.

Killing Floor 2 will offer 'paid weapon' DLC in future content updates
https://www.pcgamer.com/killing-floor-2-will-offer-paid-weapon-dlc-in-future-content-updates/
Killing Floor 2 has been around for close to three years now (longer if you count the Early Access period), and during that time developer Tripwire Interactive has been pretty generous with free content in updates like Back and Kickin' Brass, Season's Beatings, Infinite Onslaught, and the Summer Sideshow. Unfortunately, we live in a world where making games requires making money, and so Tripwire is going to change things up a bit in the next update.

This confounding game is chess, but with gravity
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-confounding-game-is-chess-but-with-gravity/
University professor Dr. Pippin Barr has made the version of chess they play in hell, and I love it. All conventional strategy is gone and every time you think you've found an opening, something confounding happens and it crumbles in a couple moves.

Epic reduces Fortnite mech spawns in Arena and Tournament playlists (Updated)
https://www.pcgamer.com/pro-fortnite-teams-beg-epic-to-scrap-mechs-for-competitive-play/

Yesterday, Epic Games announced plans to nerf the mechs, but revealed that they'd remain in the game for competitive play—and the pros aren't pleased. A group of esports teams responded to the news with one voice, begging the dev team to scrap the mechs for Fortnite tournaments.
Updated: Epic has reduced the spawn rate of mechs in Fortnite's Arena and Tournament playlists ahead of next weekend's Champion series event. It comes after pro Fortnite teams asked for mechs to be banned from tournament play.

Deeply messed-up visual novel Saya no Uta is coming to Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/deeply-messed-up-visual-novel-saya-no-uta-is-coming-to-steam/
Steam's doors have been open to a lot of adult games it previously wouldn't have sold, but it's still a surprise to see Saya no Uta ~ Song of Saya appear in the list of upcoming games. This is a visual novel infamous because, as Brittany Vincent put it, "Not only are there descriptions of gratuitous violence, but sexual assault, adult scenes featuring a young-looking female character, and various other bits of awfulness are sprinkled throughout."

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville trademarked by EA
https://www.pcgamer.com/plants-vs-zombies-battle-for-neighborville-trademarked-by-ea/
EA recently confirmed that while Plants vs. Zombies 3 will be a mobile-exclusive, there is also a new PvZ shooter in the works for PC. Codenamed Picnic, it's currently in alpha, but recent leaks have suggested that rather than being Garden Warfare 3 it'll be called Battle for Neighborville. A recent trademark listing for that name in Europe seems to confirm it.

https://www.pcgamer.com/electronic-super-joy-2-could-be-your-next-ultra-hard-platformer-out-now/

Shortest Trip to Earth, the tricky FTL-like, leaves Early Access this week
https://www.pcgamer.com/shortest-trip-to-earth-the-tricky-ftl-like-leaves-early-access/
Ever since reading Tom's hands-on with Shortest Trip to Earth, which he described a "tough-as-hell spaceship management simulator...that takes time to truly enjoy", I've been awaiting its release, and developer Interactive Fate this week announced it's leaving Early Access on Thursday, August 15.

Still There is a dark, pensive game starring a space lighthouse keeper, out this year
https://www.pcgamer.com/still-there-is-a-dark-pensive-game-about-a-space-lighthouse-keeper-out-this-year/
Space adventure Still There, which is out this autumn/fall, plans a tricky balancing act: it's a game that wants you to confront depression, isolation and grief, but it also wants you to enjoy its dark sense of humor and eccentric AI companion, Gorky. I'm excited to see how it fares, and I like the look of its various old-school dials, joysticks and panels you'll be fiddling with to maintain the Bento Space Lighthouse, of which you're in charge.

Dwarf Fortress publisher explains why there's no release window
https://www.pcgamer.com/dwarf-fortress-publisher-explains-why-theres-no-release-window/
Dwarf Fortress is coming to Steam, complete with mod support and a new look. It's an exciting and significant change for the free ASCII game—don't worry, that version isn't going anywhere—but we still don't know when it's going to happen. In a recent post on Steam, publisher Kitfox explained why it's going to be tricky to give people a release window.

Horror meets skateboarding in the spookily rad, free Orange County
https://www.pcgamer.com/horror-meets-skateboarding-in-the-spookily-rad-free-orange-county/
Yes it's another retro-looking, first-person horror game, this time made for the Haunted PS1 Summer Spooks game jam. But, hang on a moment, as rather than walking around a creepy, boxy environment, you're skateboarding around one instead.

Gears 5's map builder makes creating murder rooms look easy
https://www.pcgamer.com/gears-5s-map-builder-makes-creating-murder-rooms-look-easy/
Gears 5's map builder will let you take a break from filling monsters will bullets to try your hand at crafting your very own Escape mode dungeon. A new video gives us a quick look at the editor, which seems pretty flexible, but also mercifully straightforward.

https://www.pcgamer.com/knights-and-bikes-release-date/
Knights and Bikes is co-op action-adventure about a pair of bicycling buds pedalling around a fictional British island in search of adventure. It's got Goonies vibes but looks like a hand-painted Costume Quest, and it's due to launch on August 27.

You can finally play Demon’s Souls in 4K and 60fps, only on the PC via RPCS3
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/you-can-finally-play-demons-souls-in-4k-and-60fps-only-on-the-pc-via-rpcs3/
Demon’s Souls is a game that a lot of PC gamers would love to play. However, and contrary to the Dark Souls series, Demon’s Souls never came on the PC. Still, PC gamers well able to play this title via RPCS3 and get a taste of it. Unfortunately, though, the game was running with 30fps but that’s about to change as a new patch came out that enables a 60fps mode.
As the RPCS3 team stated, Whatcookie recently made a patch for Demon’s Souls allowing it to bypass the games 30fps cap and run at 60fps and 120fps for the first time. Yeap, you read that right; Demon’s Souls can run with 120fps.
However, it appears that the game’s movement is currently bugged at 120fps. For instance, if you’re running the game at 120fps and run into geometry the players movement will be very slow. This could have a serious impact on the overall gaming experience, which is why the team suggests running the game at 60fps… at least until the movement has been fixed via a new patch.

Replay Borderlands 2 with this big overhaul mod
https://www.pcgamer.com/replay-borderlands-2-with-this-big-overhaul-mod/
With Borderlands 3 fast approaching, its predecessor is enjoying a resurgence. Recent discounts and free DLC has seen returning and new players hitting Pandora, and if you're playing through the whole thing, you might want to take a look at Borderlands 2.5.
Released last week, it's a work-in-progress overhaul mod for Borderlands 2, changing characters, gear, enemies and more. The mod team's intent is to let players discover changes for themselves, keeping new weapons and reworked boss fights a surprise, though you can see some of them linked in the Nexus Mods page.
>> Get it from here, but be wary that you'll need some of the DLC.

Modders have added Dr Disrespect to two Resident Evil games
https://www.pcgamer.com/modders-have-added-dr-disrespect-to-two-resident-evil-games/
I love seeing mods that add favorite characters to games they shouldn't be in. Link in Skyrim. CJ in Breath of the Wild. The Witcher characters in anything. You name it. Dr Disrespect is not a favorite character of mine, I'll admit, but I do respect the impressively faithful rendition that modder "Letmelivegaming" on Nexus Mods put into her Dr Disrespect mod.
The Doc replaces Raccoon City police officer Chris Redfield in the Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster. Doc still has Redfield's voice, so you won't get any of the rage we know him for. It seems that another modder on the Resident Evil Modding Forum is attempting to supply some needed Doc yells.
But wait, there's more! Yet another modder has used the model by Letmelivegaming and added The Doc to another Resident Evil game. You can add The Doc in place of Leon in the Resident Evil 2 remake. Letmelivegaming uploaded a video of that mod to her YouTube channel as well showing an early RE2 scene with Doc that you can watch below.

Subnautica dev to G2A: 'You now owe us $300,000'
https://www.pcgamer.com/subnautica-dev-to-g2a-you-now-owe-us-dollar300000/
In mid-July, key reseller G2A proposed the creation of a "key-blocking tool" that developers could use to provide the site with lists of keys that they don't want being sold through its platform. Keys distributed for reviews, for instance, could be entered into the tool so that if anyone ever tried to sell one, it would be blocked. But this being G2A, there was a catch: It would only make the tool if at least 100 developers signed up for it prior to August 15.
The response has been tepid, to say the least. In an update posted today, G2A said that only 19 developers have signed up so far.

Fortnite's new mode is like prop hunt meets red light, green light
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnites-new-mode-is-like-prop-hunt-meets-red-light-green-light/
Fortnite's newest LTM, Junkyard Juke, is arguably one of its most fun in months, and it's coming straight from the Fortnite Creative World Cup.
The whole mode pits four teams against one another. One team takes a turn transforming themselves into props of varying sizes and trying to sneak their way into an incinerator at the center of the map. The other teams will stand atop a tower trying to shoot those mysterious gnomes, trash bins, and water heaters. All the while, the shooting team periodically has their sight blocked by a giant black screen, and the props on the ground can see a literal red light and green light indicating when they're safe to move.

Borderlands 3 will not be preloadable
https://www.pcgamer.com/borderlands-3-no-preload/
It's common practice for digital storefronts like Steam to provide a "preload" period ahead of a game's release, so that the moment it goes live, hot-to-trot fans can dive face-first into it immediately rather than having to wait for it to download. (It also helps keep those hot-to-trot fans from demolishing servers as they all try to download it at precisely the same moment.) For the upcoming Borderlands 3, however, that's not going to be an option.

Rumors of a follow-up to the Garden Warfare series called Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville have been cropping up recently, and seem to have been confirmed by a European trademark filing for the name. Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls are available on the Epic Games Store now, and in an interview with DualShockers, Quantic Dream's David Cage confirmed that this is how the studio means to continue, no longer tied to a single platform.

DayZ will be changed everywhere because of the Australian ban
https://www.pcgamer.com/dayz-will-be-changed-everywhere-because-of-the-australian-ban/
DayZ has been having a bit of trouble in Australia recently. When the survival game's Australian distributor applied for a rating from the classification board ahead of the physical release, it was rejected. The rejection, effectively a ban, extended to the digital version, which was removed from sale.
Last week, Bohemia Interactive told me that the rejection was down to the depiction of drug use and that it was looking to find a way to keep the game available in Australia. For the time being, it looks like that solution is a global change.

Digital security firm Sophos has issued a warning about a sophisticated piece of malware, dubbed Baldr, that since early this year has been distributed via purported cheats for games including Fortnite, Apex Legends, and CS:GO. The software is "an up-and-coming password stealer" that's progressed through at least four major revisions, that enables users to steal credit card numbers, login credentials for gaming sites and other online platforms, and other personal information—at least some of which is being sold on dark web forums.

https://www.pcgamer.com/session-release-date/
If you're pining for the Skate or Tony Hawk series, Session might not be exactly what you're looking for. "Forget about hand holding magnet features or turbo timers here," say its developers. "It's you and the streets."

https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-update/
There's a big Overwatch update today: in addition to the Role Queue system and new hero Sigma, Blizzard has a slate of hero balance changes. Most prominently, the hybrid tank/support Brigitte is being adjusted so that she's much more of a healer than a tank going forward.

Destiny 2 director reflects on the state of the game and what's coming next
https://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2-director-reflects-on-the-state-of-the-game-and-whats-coming-next/
Part one of Destiny 2 game director Luke Smith's long-awaited multi-part magnum update spends most of its time looking back at the game's recent history, touching on topics including the impact of the Annual Pass on the development team—it was a grind—and the challenge of maintaining difficulty while keeping things interesting for players who are constantly growing more powerful. But it also offers a few insights into what's coming next, including an update to Pursuits, changes to the storefront, and a culling of Gambit.

Take-Two boss says linking videogames to gun violence is 'disrespectful' to victims
https://www.pcgamer.com/take-two-boss-says-linking-videogames-to-gun-violence-is-disrespectful-to-victims/
Speaking in a recent episode of CNBC's financial talk show Mad Money, Take-Two Interactive chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said the suggestion that videogames cause real-world violence is "disrespectful" to victims and their families.
"This is a terrible tragedy, a senseless tragedy. It's fun to talk about entertainment, but lives were lost," Zelnick said. "The truth is, it's disrespectful to the victims and the families to point the finger at entertainment. Entertainment is part of people's daily joy, and it's consumed worldwide, and it's the same worldwide. Gun violence is uniquely American. And that has to change, and it will only change if we address the real issues."

No Man's Sky Beyond (probably) won't mess up your bases like Next did
https://www.pcgamer.com/no-mans-sky-beyond-probably-wont-mess-up-your-bases-like-next-did/
On the brink of the release of No Man's Sky Beyond, I got to chat for a few minutes with Sean Murray of Hello Games via Skype, and he answered a question I and a lot of other NMS players have: Will Beyond 'reboot' the universe the way No Man's Sky Next did?

Pity the poor gelatinous cube. Its only crime is being a big gross jelly block that eats people and leaves their bones floating in its translucent stomach. Who among us can claim not to have done likewise? The cube's rehabilitation begins with Splitting Headache, Alan Hazelden, AKA Draknek's latest puzzle game. And, as ever from the Sokoban master, it's an ingenious, elegant puzzle game.

https://www.pcgamer.com/g2a-responds-to-unknown-worlds-accusations-calling-them-slander/
A statement posted by G2A refutes the Subnautica developer's claims, making a bit of a show out of it in the process. The gist of G2A's post is that Unknown Worlds' losses through chargebacks came from sales of Natural Selection 2 in 2013, a year before G2A existed.

The Falconeer is a dogfighting game with giant birds
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-falconeer-is-a-dogfighting-game-with-giant-birds/
The Falconeer is a dogfighting game set above an ocean world, but instead of jets or spaceships peppering each other with rockets and lasers, it's massive birds. The Gamescom teaser above gives us a brief look at some graceful avian combat, but the developer has also posted some more detailed footage.

Ice-T voices a character in Borderlands 3
https://www.pcgamer.com/ice-t-voices-a-character-in-borderlands-3/
Everyone's favorite Twitter personality—and also musician, rapper, producer, actor, and more—Ice-T voices an AI character named Balex in Borderlands 3. Last week, I had a chance to play through part of the mission he appears in, and I've cut together some of his lines in the video above (spoilers, obviously).

"According to the latest rumours, Rockstar and Google will announce Red Dead Redemption 2 for Stadia and PC at Stadia Connect on 19 August 2019. Apparently, the game will arrive to PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive during the holiday season."

RDR2 is definitely coming to PC, but I'm not sure if I believe this particular rumour. Still if it was EGS exclusive I can taste the meltdowns.
