Just got myself a cheap 75hz Freesync monitor because I was tired of the world ending everytime I dropped to 59fps. Initial impressions? Yeah I can tell the difference between 75hz and 60hz.

Been with a G-sync since 2017, and I can say that I can see the difference between 100 and 70 fps differences. For games that are known for huge frame drops, I tend to force them at 60-70hz, but if it's a game that doesn't need the extra frames, I'll roll with 120, because I've noticed this year, that going for the full on 144hz, in games (not in desktop mode), tends to drive up GPU temps, and I like my temps staying in the 50's, not mid to late 60 degrees.

AMD announces FidelityFX, Image Sharpening filter and Anti-Lag features
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/amd-announces-fidelityfx-image-sharpening-filter-and-anti-lag-features/
During its E3 2019 Next Horizon Gaming event, AMD revealed some new features that will be coming to its graphics cards. According to the red team, FidelityFX, Image Sharpening and Anti-Lag will be supported by its new GPUs; the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT and the AMD Radeon RX 5700.
FidelityFX is meant to be a post-processing effect that will improve the sharpness of various surfaces. This may sound similar to an Image Sharpening filter, however games will need to natively support this feature otherwise it will not work. Still, for games that do not support FidelityFX, AMD will add a general Image Sharpening filter that can be enabled for every game.
AMD has also announced Anti-Lag. Anti-Lag basically reduces the input lag, something that will benefit those playing competitive games. The red team provided a graph in which it claims that the response input latency can be decreased by around 33% in APEX Legends and 35% in Fortnite.

First PCIe 4.0 benchmark test coming to 3DMark later this Summer
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/first-pcie-4-0-benchmark-test-coming-to-3dmark-later-this-summer/
UL Benchmarks has announced that the first PCIe 4.0 benchmark test will be coming to 3DMark later this Summer. In case you weren’t aware of, the new PCI Express 4.0 interfaces provide up to twice the bandwidth of PCI Express 3.0 and thanks to its higher bandwidth, games can transfer more data, reduce loading times, and support more complex scenes.
According to the team, the 3DMark PCI Express feature test is designed to measure the bandwidth available to your GPU over the PCIe interface. This benchmark test will help you compare bandwidth across PCIe generations with a test that’s quick and easy to use.

It will be interesting to see the reviews for both the new Ryzens and Navi, to check if the performance claims are real or just PR talk.

It's a shame that the new cards are so expensive, tho. In my opinion, they should be $50 cheaper, but I guess AMD is going after the money, not marketshare.

Nvidia has a strangle hold on the GPU market and even Navi at $50 cheaper isn't likely to change that much. AMD might as well profit as much as they can without losing too much market share. At least they can use that to up their R&D budget going forward. As long as you have enough people thanking AMD for forcing GeForce prices down so they can buy that Nvidia product they've been waiting for, AMD should just keep pricing slightly below Nvidia's. Worst case scenario, Nvidia basically takes the entire market, then eventually slacks off on the tech advancements and jacks the prices up even more so, and creates the opportunity for another fewer core Intel vs higher core Ryzen at half the price scenario.

I've got a couple buddies who've been AMD/Radeon fans for as long as I can remember, and while they have Ryzen rigs now, they kept their existing Radeon cards for a couple years, and they both bought RTX 2000 cards last boxing day. Neither was willing to wait for Navi and neither says they plan to move back to Radeon anytime soon, even after the 5700 information we have now. There isn't much point in AMD trying to beat Nvidia for the next while. They might as well make bank and PC gamers can either change their minds and save a few bucks, or learn a hard lesson eventually.

Contrary to Intel, Nvidia has no real reason to stop their tech advancements, because their main focus isn't gaming, but workstations, an area that is still demanding more and more compute power. That's why they usually reveal their new architectures showing their compute and workstation parts, and then the cut down gaming versions.

Also, despite how bad was AMD in the CPU front, it managed to hold at least a 20% marketshare or close to that number. AMD has already gone below that number and only bounced back a bit because they rule the low and mid market thanks to its good price/performance ratio. If they start increasing prices, they'll lose that advantage, and they may lose a lot more ground to Nvidia up to a point where they'll be meaningless.

And it's not that AMD is going to launch $50 cheaper products, it's that, as Barkley showed yesterday, they may be even more expensive than the Nvidia counterparts. Mostly so if Nvidia lowers the price of the "older" RTX parts once they launch the Super versions.

Your friends not changing back to AMD is understandable. At best it would be a side-grade rather than an upgrade so, unless you have money to burn, it's not worth it.

SALES & DEALS

The Witcher 3 has sold more than 20 million copies
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-witcher-3-has-sold-more-than-20-million-copies/
The Witcher 3 is making its way over to Switch, which is neat but not really in our wheelhouse, but accompanying the news of the port are sales figures for the series as a whole, as well as the third installment. Not surprisingly, they're quite high.
40 million copies of the series have been sold, which started in 2007 with an ambitious but incredibly buggy RPG built using a modified version of the engine from Neverwinter Nights, though you'd never know to look at it.
The Witcher 3 is by far the most successful of the trilogy, apparently accounting for more than half of the series' sales. That puts it at over 20 million, an astronomical number for one game.

Epic Games Store extends weekly game giveaways to the end of the year
https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-games-store-extends-weekly-game-giveaways-to-the-end-of-the-year/
When the Epic Games Store Mega Sale got underway in May, Epic upped the frequency of its free game giveaways from one every two weeks to one per week. With the sale almost concluded—it wraps up on June 13—Epic has announced that it's going to extend that one-a-week freebie offer all the way until the end of 2019.
The announcement was fairly low-key as these things go, crammed into a rundown of upcoming Epic Games Store releases that were announced at E3, along with a reminder that EGS freebies are yours to keep once claimed. Kingdom New Lands is the current free game on Epic; beginning June 13, it will be replaced by Enter the Gungeon, which will be up until June 20.

This Planet Coaster: Ghostbusters PC should be locked away forever

To mark last week's launch of the Planet Coaster: Ghostbusters DLC, Frontier is giving away a custom PC themed around the crossover. This isn't something I'd normally write about, except I've not been able to get this horrific creation out of my mind. Just look at it.
>> You'll need some drawing skills and a reddit account. The prize includes the PC (it has good specs), the game and the Ghostbusters DLC.

And at Fanatical, there are two new deals:

SOFTWARE & DRIVERS

Nvidia's streaming software GeForce Now adds automatic highlight recording in select games
https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidias-streaming-software-geforce-now-adds-automatic-highlight-recording-in-select-games/
Nvidia announced today that a new update for GeForce Now, the company's game streaming service, introduces a highlight recording system. In select games, including Fortnite and PUBG, exciting gameplay moments like "clutch kills and match wins" are automatically recorded.
Nvidia's Highlight system has been around for a few years, but this is the first time it works with games being streamed via GeForce Now. For those unfamiliar, Nvidia Highlights works a bit like the original highlights system from Overwatch, which would automatically save a recording of your Play of the Game (or otherwise best moment) from each match. Interestingly, Overwatch isn't on the list of supported games for Nvidia's highlight system (perhaps because it's unnecessary due to the in-game tools).

Steam Library overhaul is just weeks away
https://www.pcgamer.com/steam-library-overhaul-is-just-weeks-away/
The Steam Library is getting an overhaul, with a public beta only weeks away. We've been anticipating it since the update was announced in March, and a leak last week gave us our first look at it. Valve's now confirmed it's coming soon and has given developers a quick tour.
According to Valve, the new Library "brings together a player’s experience with a game and new content/communications from the developer and community in a richer, more visual layout."

Part two of the news:

'You should be able to buy games where you want to buy them' says Microsoft exec
https://www.pcgamer.com/you-should-be-able-to-buy-games-where-you-want-to-buy-them-says-microsoft-exec/
Microsoft has been haphazardly trying to court PC gamers for a while now, but this year's E3 seemed like more of a sincere effort. Old PC franchises are being resurrected, we've got old and new Halos on the way, and there's a new app to replace the terrible Microsoft Store. Head of gaming Phil Spencer says Microsoft's not trying to replace other stores, however, and the publisher's approach will be an open one.

Phoenix Point nails down September release date, will be on Xbox Game Pass for PC
https://www.pcgamer.com/phoenix-point-nails-down-september-release-date-will-be-on-xbox-game-pass-for-pc/
Phoenix Point, the upcoming X-COM-alike being developed by original X-COM creator Julian Gollop (technically Snapshot Games, the studio he co-founded in 2013), will be out on September 3, the developer announced today. And with the new date now carved in stone, it also released a new cinematic video illustrating the changing nature of the war against the alien invaders.

Souls-like vampire ARPG Code Vein brings giant anime swords to PC this September
https://www.pcgamer.com/souls-like-vampire-arpg-code-vein-brings-giant-anime-swords-to-pc-this-september/
If you like Dark Souls and fantastically huge anime swords—and by my count, a lot of you sure do—post-apocalyptic vampire ARPG Code Vein is once again on the horizon. Last year's E3 trailer said it would be out in September of 2018, but that came and went. And here were are again, at E3, with another trailer and another September release date, only it's 2019. Hopefully this time they mean it.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War gameplay shows four players stomping zombie heads
https://www.pcgamer.com/zombie-army-4-dead-war-gameplay-shows-four-players-stomping-zombie-heads/
The Zombie Army Trilogy is a series of stand-alone Sniper Elite campaigns where the Nazis are replaced with Zombie Nazis—basically the same thing, except there are more of them and they move slower. At the PC Gaming Show yesterday, Rebellion announced a fourth game in the series, Zombie Army 4: Dead War, with a stylish cinematic trailer. Today, it's showing off gameplay.

Microsoft Flight Simulator alpha and beta test signups are open
https://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-alpha-and-beta-test-signups-are-open/
The return of Microsoft Flight Simulator, revealed with a stunning trailer at the Xbox press event at E3, stirred up a surprising amount of interest around these parts. And if you got the same sort of nostalgic twinge when you saw those big hangar doors sliding open, you can now sign up for the Flight Simulator Insider Program, which offers behind-the-scenes updates on development through private forums and "exclusive" weekly newsletters, plus—this is the big one—opportunities to take part in technical alpha and beta builds.

Get a Halo-inspired Spartan Ship Set for Sea of Thieves for free this week
https://www.pcgamer.com/get-a-halo-inspired-spartan-ship-set-for-sea-of-thieves-for-free-this-week/
Sea of Thieves is essentially a fashion show. It's a ton of fun, especially when you've got a good crew to go sailing with, but when you get right down to brass tacks the goal is to do piracy so you can make money so you can buy stuff so you can look good. That's it.
For the duration of E3, however, you can make yourself look good (in a very specific way) just by showing up. Anyone who plays either Adventure or Arena within that time frame will be given the Spartan Ship Set, inspired by Halo and developed "in partnership with" 343 Industries.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is coming to PC later this year
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-dark-crystal-age-of-resistance-tactics-is-coming-to-pc-later-this-year/
The Dark Crystal is a 1982 fantasy film directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, and while its Muppet heritage is unmistakable, it is definitely not a movie about the ongoing adventures of Kermit and co.
All of this is relevant now because En Masse Entertainment, the publisher of Tera, announced today that a strategy-RPG called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics will be released later this year. The game will actually be based on the upcoming https://www.netflix.com/ca/title/80148535">Netflix prequel series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, with an 80-mission campaign across a diverse range of territories in which the Gelfling "seek to restore light to the world and fulfill the prophecy."

Quite a few Epic Store 'exclusives' are surprisingly coming to the Microsoft Store
https://www.pcgamer.com/quite-a-few-epic-store-exclusives-are-surprisingly-coming-to-the-microsoft-store/
Buried in the deluge of E3 news this week was a story that caught my eye: Metro Exodus is available to buy on the Microsoft Store. Wait—the same Metro Exodus that became an Epic Store exclusive earlier this year, shortly before it was released?
Metro Exodus isn't alone. There are actually quite a few Epic exclusives either already on the Microsoft Store or coming to the store in the future. "Exclusive" may have less to do with only being available through Epic's launcher, and more to do with not being available on Steam, obviously Epic's biggest competitor.

You can finish Cyberpunk 2077 without killing anyone
https://www.pcgamer.com/you-can-finish-cyberpunk-2077-without-killing-anyone/
During the lastest hands-off demo of Cyberpunk 2077 at this year's E3, it was confirmed that you'll be able to finish the entire game without killing anyone. CD Projekt Red tells us that this is a change the team made based on fan feedback and survey cards handed out at E3 last year.
"Right now, every weapon and every cyberware has a nonlethal option," lead quest designer Paweł Sasko told PC Gamer. Then he revised it a bit.
"I think I can say everything. There's one thing: only weapons that are lethal by definition, so let's say you shoot someone with a bazooka in his face. You shoot his head off. That's typically lethal."

Keanu Reeves can appear throughout Cyberpunk 2077, because he lives in your head
https://www.pcgamer.com/keanu-reeves-can-appear-throughout-cyberpunk-2077-because-he-lives-in-your-head/
During the E3 trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 we saw Keanu Reeves appear as Johnny Silverhand, an iconic character from the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop RPG CD Projekt Red is basing the game on. But something unusual happens at 3.45 in the trailer: there's a visual glitch, and for a second Keanu's not there. You can see powerlines right through him just fine, so it's not a problem with the protagonist's cybernetic eyes, but something stranger.

George R.R. Martin wrote Elden Ring's 'overarching mythos'
https://www.pcgamer.com/george-rr-martin-wrote-elden-rings-overarching-mythos/
If you were wondering how involved George R.R. Martin was with FromSoftware's next game, Elden Ring, it sounds like he played a big part.
Yesterday, we picked some juicy details out of a Microsoft interview with FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki—namely that Elden Ring will be very big—but there are more details on the collaboration to discuss.

FromSoftware didn't think George R.R. Martin would actually agree to work on Elden Ring
https://www.pcgamer.com/fromsoftware-didnt-think-george-rr-martin-would-actually-agree-to-work-on-elden-ring/
Expectations are very high for Elden Ring, thanks entirely to the names behind it: The open-world action-RPG is being developed by Hidetaki Miyazaki's FromSoftware in collaboration with Game of Thrones guy George R.R. Martin. That's a pretty promising team-up. But as Miyazaki explained in this Xbox Wire interview, he didn't actually think it was going to happen at all.

Elden Ring's open world will not have towns, will be traversable on horseback
https://www.pcgamer.com/elden-rings-open-world-will-not-have-towns-will-be-traversable-on-horseback/
Elden Ring, the forthcoming fantasy RPG by From Software, will boast a conventionally sprawling open world, rather than an interlocking Metroidvania style map. It'll be a departure from the likes of Dark Souls, Sekiro and Bloodborne, but it won't feature towns, according to game director Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Star Control lawsuit settled, both sides will cooperate on current and future games
https://www.pcgamer.com/star-control-lawsuit-settled-both-sides-will-cooperate-on-current-and-future-games/
Well over a year after it began, Star Control Origins studio Stardock and original Star Control creators Paul Reiche and Fred Ford have announced that they have reached an amicable settlement in the legal dispute between them. The settlement arose from a direct phone call from Reiche to Wardell, in which they spoke at length about bees and related matters before moving on to talk about the case.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 will see the return of Spec Ops cooperative mode
https://www.pcgamer.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2019-will-see-the-return-of-spec-ops-cooperative-mode/
Since the official reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, studio Infinity Ward has only discussed the game's campaign component. But during an E3 Coliseum event today (embedded above), the game's narrative director Taylor Kurosaki revealed that the series' Spec Ops mode will be making a return.

They seem more than just a refresh I was expecting, Definitely interested in seeing the pricing of them.

^Indeed, it looks more like a new range of cards than just a refresh.
