So, for this month, since giving my wallet a break don't cross the minds of the gaming gods, my PC controller broke (actually, it loses connection unless the cable is twisted in a very specific way, and opening it up revealed nothing). Now, apparently they don't make X360 controllers anymore, so I'm going with a very nice third party one, LEDs and everything. Hopefully, that'll be the last thing to go caput until I replace most of it in 18-20 months.

That sucks.

Can't you get an used from from a second hand store? I got the one I used for my PC this way, before my brother gifted me an XboxOne controller.

Please excuse my bad English.

I... don't think we have this sort of thing around here? Sometimes our federal revenue agency does these sales of seized smuggled merchandise and you can get video game stuff etc. for real cheap but they're really unpredictable.

So yeah, not much to do. I could wait, but then I'd miss on this sale.

There are no business that buy and sell used goods? That's... kind of odd. But well, every country has its own peculiarities.

If the price is good and you like it, go for it!

I don't think I could find it easily nowadays except for online. Game rental shops almost certainly used to do it, they were a hub for all sorts of interesting stuff, whether used, imported etc... but they're all dead now.

^Well, that saddens me.

And in other news, but also a bit sad, JPR has published the Q4 2018 results for GPU sales, and they're not good

Due to the collapse of Crypto-mining Q4 2018 goes down as worst fourth quarter for add-in boards in over 10 years
https://www.jonpeddie.com/store/add-in-board-report
The add-in board market decreased in Q4'18 from last quarter, and Nvidia gained market share. Over $2.8 billion dollars of AIBs shipped in the quarter.

Quarter-to-quarter graphics board shipments decreased by 10.7% and decreased by 40.2% year-to-year.

“The fourth quarter is normally flat to up seasonally, “said Dr. John Peddie, President, and founder of Jon Peddie Research. “However, this quarter we found that AIB shipments decreased from the last quarter by 10.7%, which is which is below the ten-year average of a 2.3% decrease. This has largely been attributed to the hang-over of the crypto-mining gold rush.”

SALES & DEALS

Cities: Skylines has sold six million copies
https://www.pcgamer.com/cities-skylines-has-sold-six-million-copies/
This weekend Cities: Skylines, the city-building sim from Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive, will celebrate its fourth birthday. To mark the event Paradox have shared some numbers. Most notable is the fact that Cities: Skylines has sold six million copies in that time, a thoroughly decent amount for a game of its type. But they also note that players have made 39,733,045 simulated cities with a total combined population of 2,185,317,000,000 people—a number so big it's hard to think about.

Devil May Cry 5 is Capcom's second biggest PC launch ever
https://www.pcgamer.com/devil-may-cry-5-is-capcoms-second-biggest-pc-launch-ever/
Capcom has entered a golden age. Its Resident Evil 2 remake was three times more popular on Steam than 2017's Resident Evil 7, and now its latest game, hack-and-slash Devil May Cry 5, has surpassed both of them, making it Capcom's second biggest PC launch ever.
As of writing, the game has a concurrent player peak of around 89,000, and is in the top 10 on Steam in terms of current players. That could improve over the weekend, too, but it's unlikely to catch up with Monster Hunter: World, Capcom's biggest-ever Steam launch, which reached a peak concurrent player count of more than 300,000 following its launch in August.
>> Good news for us, as that will encourage them to bring more games to PC.

SEGA has removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from Sonic Mania via the latest beta patch
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/sega-has-removed-the-denuvo-anti-tamper-tech-from-sonic-mania-via-the-latest-beta-patch/
SEGA has released a new beta patch for Sonic Mania that, among other things, it removes the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. To be honest, this does not really surprise us as SEGA has been distancing itself from it. The Japanese company has already removed Denuvo from Yakuza 0 and has recently released Yakuza Kiwami without this anti-tamper tech.
This beta patch also fixes an issue where a controller didn’t always get detected, fixes an issue where the check for compatible shaders was not performed when the game starts and increases the amount of storage size a user could access for the replay data.

The Epic Games Launcher has a search function now
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-epic-games-launcher-has-a-search-function-now/
The Epic Games Launcher store has a search function now. This may seem like the kind of thing you'd expect it to have right from the start, but as Sergey Galyonkin explained on Twitter, "We launched with three games, there was no need to enable search". Now there are slightly more than three games on the Epic Launcher—though still not as many as its competitors, of course—and so it has a search function. Galyonkin adds that "Once we have more games, we'll add more features, including pages", as right now the store is set to infinite scroll.

TimeSplitters Rewind is alive, new gameplay presentation released
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/timesplitters-rewind-is-alive-new-gameplay-presentation-released/
Out last look on TimeSplitters Rewind was back in 2017 when we shared some screenshots from its WIP version. Since then, the team went silent and today, after almost one and a half years, Cinder Interactive Arts released a new gameplay presentation.
As the team noted, the gameplay footage featured in this video has been worked on from October last year and mainly from one person. Yeap, the team has scraped all previous work and has started from the beginning. Moreover, it features a lot of placeholders and it obviously does not represent the quality of the final product. Still, it’s better than nothing.
TimeSplitters Rewind is a standalone multiplayer game that is being developed by fans of the original Timesplitters series. The game will feature characters, maps, and weapons from all three games completely rebuilt.

ESRGAN AI-enhanced HD Texture Packs released for Grand Theft Auto Vice City & Morrowind
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/esrgan-ai-enhanced-hd-texture-packs-released-for-grand-theft-auto-vice-city-morrowind/
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind fans, here is something for your today. Modders ‘Jamasen’ and ‘DassiD’ have released new ESRGAN AI-enhanced HD texture packs for these two games that improve the quality of their original, blurry and low-resolution textures.
DassiD and his team had already upscaled the textures in Morrowind to four times the vanilla resolution using ESRGAN, however they decided to go one step further. With version 2.0 the team has also trained custom models for different types of materials, which has increased detail considerably in many cases (and issues with alpha-textures and compression artifacts should be minimal).
On the other hand, the Texture Pack for GTA Vice City updates/enhances/improves around 1364 textures. According to the modder, some of these textures have been from the XBOX, PS2 and mobile versions, as these textures were of a higher quality than those found in the original PC version.

Third episode for The AMC TC, old-school stand-alone free game based on Duke Nukem 3D, available now
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/third-episode-for-the-amc-tc-old-school-stand-alone-free-game-based-on-duke-nukem-3d-available-now/
Modder ‘Jblade35’ has released the third episode for The AMC TC. The AMC TC is described as an epic multi-character single player stand-alone game based on Duke Nukem 3D, utilising Eduke32 and the 2.5D BUILD engine.
The third episode offers 30+ hours of story-driven campaign, featuring original levels full of epic encounters and surprises. The artists that made the levels for the game’s third episode are James Stanfield, Michael Crisp, Sangluss, Cedric ‘Zaxtor Znort’ Lutes, Loke, and Snowfall (with certain maps using segments built by Highwire and Jenz/amaka).

Sonic Unleashed Temple of Gaia remake in Unreal Engine 4 is available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/sonic-unleashed-temple-of-gaia-remake-in-unreal-engine-4-is-available-for-download/
YouTube’s ‘Raphpower-S’ has released a remake of the Temple of Gaia map from Sonic Unleashed in Unreal Engine 4. This map recreates the area from the cut-scene when Sonic and Chip bring the Chaos emerald to the Gaia Temple to restore the planet.
Raphpower-S has used the original Sonic model from the game that was ripped from the Xbox 360 version from TheEpicOfGilgamesh, thus giving everyone a glimpse at what a new Sonic Unleashed game could have looked in Epic’s engine.
It’s a cool concept though you should not expect anything mind-blowing. Players can control Sonic and explore the temple and that’s it. From the looks of it, Raphpower-S does not plan to expand this project and create a fan-made game like CryZENx has done with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

This mod completely removes Mr. X from Resident Evil 2 Remake
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/this-mod-completely-removes-mr-x-from-resident-evil-2-remake/
Resident Evil 2 Remake is one of the best remakes we’ve seen to date. However, and perhaps its only controversial feature, is the inclusion of Mr. X. While some players believed that its inclusion stayed true to the original game, some players felt those encounters to be boring, repetitive and tedious. If you were among them, you’ll find the following mod quite interesting.
As its title suggests, this mod for Resident Evil 2 Remake completely removes Mr. X from the game. What’s also cool here is that this mod does not break any scripted events evolving Mr. X as a friendly ghost has been used in his place.

Here's how Breath of the Wild looks on PC without cel-shading
https://www.pcgamer.com/heres-how-breath-of-the-wild-looks-on-pc-without-cel-shading/
Wii U emulator Cemu was able to run The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild shortly after the game's release, but just being able to run something isn't enough for modders. Now it's playable at 60 frames-per-second with a variety of graphical tweaks. A new version of Cemu just released, 1.15.3b, and so Arkh Longstride made the video above to show off what it's capable of with a variety of mods.
The most obvious difference is the removal of cel-shading, which is a divisive choice. I think it gives it more of a Twilight Princess look, but I did like the original style. The fog's also been taken away and a bunch of other changes have been made to increase how far you can see, and clarity filters alter the colors a little. The UI's stretched to fit widescreen, but apparently that's not a problem at most resolutions.

Star Wars Episode I: Racer has been recreated in Unreal Engine 4
https://www.pcgamer.com/star-wars-episode-i-racer-has-been-recreated-in-unreal-engine-4/
Star Wars Episode I: Racer was probably the best thing to come out of The Phantom Menace, but at 20 years old, it could probably do with a fresh coat of paint. Thankfully, modder RobJin has come to the rescue of podracing fanatics everywhere, creating a demo version in Unreal Engine 4. There's a spiffy trailer that you can watch above.
The modder started the project to get the hang of the engine, but 10 months later it's become something a bit grander. They warn that there are optimisation and animation issues, but that it's still playable. Podracers can control Anakin and his swift junker on the Mos Espa map on Tatooine. Check out their Art Station page here.

Monday news, part two:

Vermintide 2 celebrates its first birthday with an in-game pub crawl
https://www.pcgamer.com/vermintide-2-anniversary-level-quiet-drink/
It’s Warhammer: Vermintide 2’s first birthday, and to mark the occasion, there’s a special Event Level that has the Ubersreik Five (or Four? Doesn’t matter) head out on the town on good, old fashioned bender.
The new Event Level, called A Quiet Drink, is available now in the Keep. It begins with our rat-smashing heroes on the prowl for some ale. There’s plenty of that scattered throughout the streets, but this being the End Times, there are also plenty of clanrats, zombies, and Chaos Warriors catching the evening air as well. As these things so often do, it culminates with an all-out tavern brawl at a charming little pub called the Obese Megalodon, followed by a mad dash out through some subterranean tunnels.

Buried Debts is Warframe’s first community event of the year, and it’s introducing the new chonky Hildryn warframe. She’s an interesting frame, using her shield pool rather than energy to perform her abilities while hefting a huge archwing firearm.

Subnautica: Below Zero update adds seatruck and cheeky monkeys
https://www.pcgamer.com/subnautica-below-zero-update-adds-seatruck-and-cheeky-monkeys/
The latest Early Access update for Subnautica's standalone expansion Below Zero is here. It's called the seatruck update because that's the main thing it adds: A new vehicle you can build by constructing a cab and then choosing modules to add to it. There's a storage container, a fabricator, and an aquarium that you can use to bring fish home or maybe take your pets out for an underwater road trip.

Path of Exile: Synthesis expansion is live
https://www.pcgamer.com/path-of-exile-synthesis-expansion-is-live/
Path of Exile: Synthesis adds a new Challenge League to the popular free action-RPG. Synthesis is all about exploring lost memories and its dungeons are made by players, assembled from fragments of the decaying memories of an NPC named Cavas. It's an intriguing high concept for a game that's often a bit generic in its theming.

Hitman 2's latest elusive target is a politician with a body double

If you manage to complete the contract without killing the double, you'll get a higher rating. Which is nice.

Artifact designer Richard Garfield among those not working at Valve any more
https://www.pcgamer.com/richard-garfield-among-those-not-working-at-valve-any-more/
In February, Valve laid off 13 of its full-time employees and an unknown number of its contractors. "It’s an unfortunate part of business, but does not represent any major changes at the company," Valve said in a statement.
Artifact fan blog Artibuff reached out to Richard Garfield, who served as that game's designer under contract, to see if he was one of those terminated. Garfield replied, and explained that both members of the 3 Donkeys design team—himself and Skaff Elias, former vice president of Wizards of the Coast—were no longer under contract at Valve.

https://www.pcgamer.com/blade-symphony-goes-free-to-play-gets-flooded-with-negative-reviews/
Multiplayer swordfighting game Blade Symphony has gone free-to-play.
The move was announced in 2017 and follows the massive Harmonious Prelude update, which upgraded the game engine and added new modes on top of the standard 1v1 arena duels. Developer Puny Human said in a Steam post on Friday that the change was not a money grab, and that only four items would be for sale through an in-game store—all it wanted was to make the game "more accessible, and have a longer life", it said.

You'll take control of a novice archivist called Rosalind, who's collecting plant samples and cataloging mysterious goings-on to try and saving a dying planet. Everything is controlled via your keyboard, and most of the puzzles and combat will require you to type words as fast as you can: each on-screen enemy has a word assigned to them, and you have to type it to deal damage, for example.

>> This is like the autism-vaccines bullsh!t. No matter how many studies show no relation, some people will always believe in it.

The rumoured Fallout 76 secret ending was just a pipe dream
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-fallout-76-player-thinks-theyve-uncovered-a-secret-ending/
A Fallout 76 player believes there's a secret ending to Bethesda's survival romp. They're setting out with some volunteers to see if they can bring it about with a calculated nuclear assault on post-apocalyptic West Virginia, specifically the fissures that spawn scorchbeasts.
Update: We knew the chances of an elaborate, secret ending hidden away inside Fallout 76 was unlikely, but Easter eggs and secrets have an almost mythical draw; just look at GTA 5's Mount Chiliad mystery. Unfortunately, some dreams may have been dashed.

World of Warcraft: Classic will be split into six phases
https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-warcraft-classic-will-be-split-into-six-phases/
Blizzard has tweaked its plans for World of Warcraft: Classic. The original plan was to give Classic four phases built around the MMO's early raids, but after some feedback from players and some internal discussion, that's been expanded to six. The team's goal is to recapture the the 'good old days', so the updates will largely follow the original patches, but paired up.

World of Warcraft isn't the only long-running MMO that's going back to its roots with a "classic" server. Funcom has opened the doors on a new server for the even-older sci-fi MMO Anarchy Online that will return players to the early days of Rubi-Ka, with no expansions, a lowered level cap, and an "untouched economy" to get things rolling.

https://www.pcgamer.com/this-ni-no-kuni-ii-dlc-trailer-is-cute-and-charming-until-the-nightmares-arrive/
Ni No Kuni II is so cute and charming, that it's easy to forget that one spends at least 70 percent of the game's duration killing cute and charming creatures. But that's videogames for you. For those eager to get more mileage out of the game, new DLC releases next week (March 19). Dubbed The Tale of a Timeless Tome, it focuses on fighting the scourge of The Nightmares, who are very frightening indeed (but also kinda cute).

In a thread entitled "I will buy the first 343 employee that comments on this pizza if MCC for PC gets announced during the special announcement this month", a verified 343 Employee account operated by Community Director Brian Jarrard responded: "What kind of pizza are we talking about?"

Anthem's 1.03 update, as well as removing a bug that made the game a lot more fun, also introduced some changes that weren't detailed in the patch notes. Players noticed a few additions that had gone unmentioned, like new components that can give Javelins an edge and several nerfs.
>> And some players are planning a boycott to protest for a fixed bug... You'll understand it if you read it,
